One of the conversations I had with my wife the other day was about the differences between customers. I told her how I had a guy in a 97 K1500 wanted pretty much the entire front end rebuilt including a brake job; and that he didn't even want to talk about price, just do it. Then a dude in a BMW called about a brake job and literally used the words "don't you have any cheaper brake pads?" This guy reminds me of my Silverado guy lol

This video sure brings back memories for me. My first car was a '57 Chevy and I recall packing the bearings on it. And all the brake jobs, distributor caps, rotors and points replacing. Cars were so much simpler then. But required a lot more maintenance. I replaced the 6 cylinder automatic with a 265 cu inch V8 engine manual transmission that I found in a farmers field about 10 miles from home. Paid $20.00 for the whole car and towed it home with a tractor. I really didn't know what I was doing but the swap was successful.

Old School bearing packing. Yeah, I have a bearing packer. With two horse trailers and two utility trailers, and several carts that all demand attention in addition to my vehicles, I thought it would be a huge time saver. But, ...By the time I find it...., then get it cleaned up and ready to use, use it, then clean it up and get it ready for storage... (A.K.A....Lost Again), I could pack 6 sets of bearings the "Old School" way! Love your vids Eric. Thanks Again for all you do. We really do appreciate it!

That was a "dueling banjo" bolt! 🤣 I'm a big fan of the NAPA brake parts. Got a set of the black calipers on the ol' Volvo. They do hold up extremely well around here. Gonna need it, with MA taking NY's lead on brining the roads with that liquid crap. Got a 2wd myself - the '86 Grand Marquis! I throw Amsoil grease in there, and I've gone 70k on that car without repacking. Stuff works really well. I pack the pee out of 'em. You certainly right about everyone having a different way of doing this job. I have always worked the grease in with my fingertips all around both sides of the edge - been doing that since I was 16, probably because that's how my dad, and grandpa did 'em. Don't much matter how you do it, so long as the grease get in there. :)

Putting that grease on everything is a lifesaver!! Little story. I met my fiance in Virginia... I'm from GA and she's from NY, around the catskills. She had a 2010 Hyoonday Elantra and she asked me if I could look at it for a "slight noise" in the brakes. Needless to say I was in awe at what I found. One pad looked brand new but the other was worn down to metal. The pad was stuck due to rust jacking. The rotor face was so chowdered there were chunks missing out of it. In the south, a brake job is a simple R & R job and never bothered with the grease. I spent hours with the bastard file trying to get the caliper brackets cleaned out so the pads would move freely. Rust jacking is no joke...
@Blazer02LS
@Blazer02LS 5 жыл бұрын
Yep, the fun stuff is when the rust jacks the wheel speed sensors out enough that the ABS goes wonky, Many folks think, well I'll just pull them out and clean off the rust. They don't realize that the rust is also squeezing that sensor in the hole, SNAP.... Well that bearing was going bad anyway......
