A Jaguar ftype is never the rational choice. When it comes to values, depreciation is significantly higher than for its competitors, making it a very expensive car to own from new.
So why do people buy them? Looks, sound, and uniqueness are characteristics that peruse many people, and, most importantly, triumph over the irrationalities that come with owning an f type.
However, going forward, the purchase of an f type could very well be one that can be made with the heart and the brain. This discontinuation and the move to electric vehicles has the potential to dramatically shift the course of the f-type’s value development.
However, at the moment, there is no evidence for that in the price trends. Old V6 models are currently depreciating at rates that are higher than the market average. Old V8 models are depreciating at the same, or at lower rates than the market average. While the new, facelift cars are depreciating at approximately the same speed as the market, but lost significantly more over the last two years. Of course, this does not mean that it will not happen in the future.

I got a new F-Type RWD convertible in 2018 and I am always exited to drive it. I don’t care if its value goes down or up because I bought it with the intention to keep it until it will become a classic. The design is timeless and sexy and very often I receive compliments and thumbs up from random people. Decades ago owning an E-Type would have been my dream car; today my F-Type fulfills my old dream. Owning a Jaguar F-Type is for me not a financial matter but a passion.

Totally agree. Every time I drive mine, and it's my daily driver, I absolutely love it. The ability to change your position amongst a pack of cars and get out of the pack to clear driving is probably my favorite thing about my F Type R . The thing absolutely zips from 50mph to well above in the blink of an eye. I went through a period where it was in the shop with all the problems you'll see when reading Jaguar forums. Thankfully, my extended warranty covered all of them less the small deductible. Now, I haven’t had any issues in quite a while. Like the original commentor, my plan is to hold on until it becomes a classic. To me, it's already a classic.

No car that looks as beautiful, sounds as great and elicits such compliments can be deemed a money pit ! I bought my '16 F Type R in 2019 and it lost 10% in line with depreciation in our local market and flattened out. Depreciation was never a factor in my decision making process and while it's natural competitor is Porsche 911, I simply cannot "fall in love" with a Porsche. It depends as to what the intention is. Transport, Investment or ownership. LIke any asset, this should influence the decision.

My friend purchased a 2018 f type SVR. Beautiful car and very fast. He let me drive it. Good Transmission and brutal acceleration. But, compared to my 911 C2S, it just doesn't. It feels bigger than it is, the chassis isn't nearly as solid as a 911. The visibility out isn't great either. Those small windows make the car stylish, but make it a nightmare to see out of. It doesn't handle that great. It feels heavy, which it is compared to a 911. It's a desirable car just based on looks alone. But it's not a daily driver and it's not really a sports car.

@@morganvon5664 It is a sports car. The chassis is amazing (though not 911-level) and I actually prefer the V6S convertible so you can hear the amazing exhaust note (which sadly no 911 in the last decade can match). It's a different beast.. you use the 911 for pure driving dynamics and to set times. You use an FType to hoonigan around, make loud noises and leave infantile drift marks whenever the mood strikes. Each has it's place. Signed: A guy with a V6S convertible and a 991.2 GT3.

@@morganvon5664 You know what they say about opinions. These cars are different. They handle fine. One is clinical and boring, and the other is NOT that. There, another opinion for the pile. 911 C2S, talk about an overrated car, especially considering current prices. They are becoming status cars that sound like crap more than anything else. Good cars though.

I wonder where the V6 manual transmission cars would fit in this analysis? There are not many of them, they were only made in 2016-17, only 5% chose them. I have one, a '16 3.0S, I really like it.

Has not cost me more than oil changes since buying....60k miles. It is not a money pit..it is bosch, trw, leer...it is top tier stuff and wonderfully put together. No rattles at 60k miles. In this regard, it is far better than a 997, 991, or 992 and it sounds and looks better. And at legal speeds it drives better.

Thanks. I own a wonderful 2017 F-Type V6s convertible, and I think your presentation is quite accurate. It is in fact, exactly how I see it. Maybe (if it were possible, it is not) a well preserved F-type could be the car of the Rush song, 50 or 75 years in the future. An aluminum bodied car, that has the promise of long life, with a responding roaring engine. But we all know the stupidly fun F-Type has a reputation that trends towards "difficult to maintain". And, that is where one major problem lies.

I just paid $51,285.00 (sans taxes) for a 2016 F Type R Coupe AWD. It has 27,000 miles which is partly why it is more than the KBB average plus it is in mint condition and has the 20" carbon wheels with new tires. I think that, over time and with the switch to all electric, this Callum masterpiece will actually reverse the trend and appreciate in value.

The manual isn't very good, it's geared too long and not very pleasant to use. The autos are the way to go as they have the superb ZF-8 (extensively used for example in current BMW M cars) I understand your question, as in value due to rarity, but probably too few around to draw anything conclusive.

Probably not a good car to keep value, but still think is one the best bang for buck you can get. Parts can be expensive but I wouldn't say they are unreliable. Both the V6s and V8s sound heavenly too, and they look much more special than a M2 for example.

Part are expensive for all nicer cars we find ourselves interested in. The F-type R, on balance, is an incredible choice. People should put their money in markets if they care about putting money into depreciating assets.

Depreciation is a useful tool if you buy to keep. And you should be buying to keep if you're a true enthusiast, as at the time they're not supposedly going to make any more enthusiast cars. As long as depreciation is on-going you benefit every year of waiting, and once you buy the effect of it over for you.

Always like the f type, had a few chances over the years to buy the v8 at around 40k, such a bargain. Hard to imagine collectibility for sure. JLR’s decision to go EV, the going away of big engines, the stricter noise restriction all made the f type v8s the one to go for. But interior quality issues (sticky buttons, cheap plastic, fading texts, meh design), the weak brand image, electrical gremlins (hit n miss) and the dilution of cheaper v6 and i4 variants will def hurt the v8s and value of the model ,as they all look the same and there’s just too many made. There’s hope for it tho, kinda like the 355. F type has the beauty, the sound and the performance, and with time pple might look past the low quality materials and reliability. (But u still need to reduce the number of samples out there to increase exclusivity )
@hyper_channel
@hyper_channel 10 ай бұрын
The sticky interior was fixed 2016 onwards AFAIK, the rest more or less agree, as an owner :) On the reliability front, Jaguar and Land Rover in general don't have the best track record but I don't think the F-Type is less reliable than it's competitors. Being slightly more dated plays on its favor in that front. The most problematic bits are non-critical (pop out door handles, pop up central vent), the engine is solid it you keep up with the yearly maintenance.
