Never ever would I have thought the Instax Wide delivers such sharp images! Awesome!

I finally recieved my 110B instax conversion. I'm so glad I went this way. Having total control is so much more enjoyable. With a variable ND filter for bright days it's a please to shoot. Thanks again for this video,because I would not have done it without seeing this video first.

Glad to see you back! I would love to see some content on darkroom printing as that is something I am just getting my feet wet with now. Also, I'm sure it would be a massive undertaking, but it would be awesome to have a frankenstax build-a-long series! Thanks for what you do!

the shots that you got out of that are amazing. Now the gears are turning to figure out how I can make myself a friend for your frankenstax. Have always loved instant film; have rarely liked the cameras.

i got Fujiinstax 210 wide . for some three years . It`s outstanding camera . Pictures a sharp , especially for instax film . Zone focusing works very nice . Very easy to get the exposure right . Colours are wonderful. just got to know what are you doing . One of my favorite film cameras . Everyone loves ( and wants ) the pictures from it .

I'm wildly jealous of you for having done this so well. I really want to get into the instax wide format, but I don't want to settle for subpar results when a Polaroid SLR680/690 can provide excellent results (I dropped out of impossible film format because of how pricey it is). I've just been sitting on my hands waiting for someone to create an excellent instax wide camera that can provide exceptional results with accurate focusing. I don't think I have the skills or knowledge to create something like this and I don't have money to invest into creating this while there's a chance of failure. You sir, have done an excellent job.

Jarred Torres thank you so much man. I too found myself in a similar boat. Originally being a dedicated pack film user I had to find a way to make quality images with glass optics on a more available film type. Impossible never appealed to me but I understand your struggle. Instax wide cameras are absolute garbage in comparison to how capable the film is with my camera here. Thanks for the high praises! I did this for my own enjoyment but I just had to share it with you guys because I do realize how fucking awesome this camera is 😂 I'd be jealous if someone else had one and I didn't haha
@ForesthillFilmLab7 жыл бұрын
Jarred Torres haha hell yea. This is the 20 minute guide to perfectly exposed images. Glad you enjoy it! This is the photography equivalent to learning how to ride a bike! Never have to learn twice!

This is fantastic. I completely agree with everything you said here. The film is without a doubt the most widely available instant film and arguably produces the best results when compared to other instant films currently in production (*cough cough "Impossible"). It definitely has an untapped potential simply because, as you stated, there isn't a camera available that has accurate focusing and fully manual exposure controls. If there were, instant film would be less of a cliche. I'm completely inspired by what you've done and I very well might build my own so thank you for your open invitation to ask questions because I very well might take you up on that!

You rock man! I am a new film photographer. Still have yet to expose and develop a roll of film but you helped me get into the medium from digital. Do you have a blog post about it? It would probably be a great post! I would LOVE to read up on this and make one myself! :-D Keep up the good work!

Very cool man, very cool. You're right, the Instax film is WAY better than the cameras. I converted a Polaroid Highlander a few years ago to shoot 120 film, so I seriously appreciate the amount of effort that you put into this. I'm still hoping that we will eventually get a decent camera from Fuji, Lomo, or somebody that will have a better lens and offer more control.

well actually fuji made an amazing camera for this film about 18 years ago. they decided to stop doing that and start making shit i suppose

If building one of these I would suggest a 150mm Xenar, it might be a closer match so you can get to infinity with out collapsing the front end. Resolution wise I don’t think it will be noticeable with Instax film. The Xenar you have on the camera tends to be a pricey piece of glass!
@412foto6 жыл бұрын
Crazy that someone has to build a camera that works and gives control. Fujifilm PLEASE make a camera that gives us control with the wide film. They'd surely sell a lot of them! I think you could make these and sell them. I know I'd be interested. How much?

funny I would see this video because I had a idea for what I was going to call a frankenroid camera. Has anyone noticed the instax wide film is the exact size as the polaroid 600. So what happens when you load instax wide into a empty polaroid 600 cartridge ? Well for one thing it has to go through the rollers sideways. So try it and let me know how it goes
@michaelgermundson81667 жыл бұрын
Great video and thank you for sharing. Is your viewfinder matching the film size: 3.4 x 4.25" / 86 x 108 mm Or are you giving extra space around your subject? What do you see vs. the end result? Have you considered a grafloc back and shooting 4x5 film?

Just awesome. Great work! I wonder if you can tell me where to get one of those Belair Instant Backs? I was not able to find one online. Best wishes from Berlin.
@TheAgeOfAnalog7 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure you can still buy just the backs from Lomo.
@monodistortion6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately people think Lomo may have discontinued that back since the Belair isn't very popular. It's been out of stock on their site for over a year I think and out of stock everywhere else too.

Hi Travis, I love this contraption, and would like to build one of my own - like now! If you don't mind, I'd like to ask a couple of Qs. 1. Do you find that the Polaroid 250 is best suited to match up with the Lomo back? How about the 210 or 320? 2. Did you have to make any major alterations to the Bel Air back to fit the Polaroid? I haven't checked your other videos, so apologies if you have instructions already uploaded somewhere. Desperately seeking info. Thanks in advance.
@ForesthillFilmLab7 жыл бұрын
Paul del Rosario hey how's it going man. Yea I would say the 250 is the best choice because I has a metal frame body as well as a Zeiss viewfinder with a coupled rangefinder and viewfinder. That's why I chose the 250. To the bel air back I did have to remove the original mounting hardware and ground down the front of the back to be ready to attach to the Polaroid.
@PauldelRosario7 жыл бұрын
Cool. Thanks. Will have to hunt down a 250. Do you have a site where we can see your prints from the Frankenstax?

OK, this is always my question; the calibration of the film plane. You said " longer focal length " for the change in film plane. Did I understand that you adjusted the viewfinder or calibrated it yourself? Was this a trial and error thing or did you have another method?
@Retrofuturismo6 жыл бұрын
I have the same question!
@EFD620G7 жыл бұрын
I totally agree that lomography cameras are a joke. I got tired of wasting film also. I customized a Diana instant back to work with a mini Graphlex and enjoyed the control of picture taking again. I've ordered a Polaroid 110B already overhauled ,calibrated and ready to shoot instax wide.I'm waiting patiently for it to arrive. It is so mush more enjoyable to be able to plan a shoot and have it turn out the way you envision it. Good Luck with your new camera.

I have a 210 polaroid that I've never used and I'd love to mount the back of my Fuji instax 210 to it, but I don't know if it can be done or how to do it. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how do you get the shutter to sync with the instax?
@goodnitesteve5 жыл бұрын

I made a "pola-instax" from a Polaroid 100 and an Instax wide 100 camera, and even the Polaroid 3 element glass lens is much better than the 2 element plastic Instax lens. I also made a large format instax back from an Instax 100 for my 5x7 and this truly showcases the quality of Instax film! I'm thinking that putting an instax back on a Polaroid 110B would be perfect as you wouldn't have any focus issues since infinity focus can be adjusted, and close focus would work as well since the rangefinder is coupled with the same 127mm lens, instead of using a 135mm on a rangefinder designed for a 114mm lens. I did a quick mashup of the Pola-instax build at kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g5eIo65619nRaZc.html
