Freeloading Sister Demand I Leave My House On Xmas So She Can Be Alone w/ Her Husband... AITA

My (26F) sister, who I’ll call Emily moved in with her husband (29M), who I’ll call Roger two years back. Emily and I were never very close, but we were family nonetheless.
Recently, they decided to get their house renovated and because it’s been quite disastrous at their place, they asked if they could move in with me last week, I was a little shocked because we haven’t spoken in a while but I said it would be fine with me.
Emily wanted to have a talk - She asked if her and Roger could have the place to themselves on Christmas Day and Christmas Eve. I asked where she thinks I can go, her response? “I don’t know, get a motel.” She continued to tell me how I can afford a couple days in a motel and it won’t kill me.
Story 1:
UPDATE: AITA for asking my sister to leave after she tried to kick me out of my own house?
Story 2:
UPDATE - AITA for not financially helping family and friends - despite being able to?

So your parents told you to "let nature ride and just try for another child", and are now upset that you won't share your success? Tell them to try for another child, maybe that one will be a more compliant doormat.

@tabortoothtiger7580 Жыл бұрын
@@mrgyani Why the hell do you think it's okay for someone to go into someone else's house and leave their room an absolute mess that OP now has to clean up? OP's sister was asked to do one thing to stay in the house for FREE, and she couldn't even do that. OP is not her sister's mama. She's not obligated to put up with it. She gave her sister a second chance, and sister blew it. It's not petty to not want to deal with someone else's mess in your own fucking home. Especially when you're letting that person stay there for free and probably eat your food and use your utilities for free. It wasn't just a single stain on a pillow. Did you not see that OP said the room smelled disgusting? Clearly either sister has depression and needs serious help to get through it, or she is purposefully being lazy and not following house rules. Either way, it's left OP to clean up a mess that is not her own, IN HER OWN HOME. If you can't be a good guest, don't stay in other people's homes and expect them to put up with it. Again, OP is not her mama. So, if this grown woman can't get to the point where she can take care of herself and keep her area that she lives in for free clean, then she needs to go back and live with her actual mama. If it's petty to not want to deal with someone else's disgustingness, then I guess myself and OP are petty. OP tried to be kind and let her stay in her house, even after the stunt she pulled, but sister couldn't even follow a simple house rule. After being told time and time again at that. I'd be acting petty too if I were OP. (and also, before someone comes at me about mental health, I am a sufferer of mental illness. Hell, I'm legally mentally disabled. But I don't go into other people's houses and shit all over them just because I'm going through a tough time. My mental illness is on me. Not anybody else. I have to take care of myself. Not expect everybody to cater to me. Hell, my mom had chronic depression and PTSD among other things. And she never went into somebodies house and left it a pigsty. She was raised with manners at least. She cleaned up after herself in other people's houses. If it's your own house, great, do what you have to, but don't go into other people's houses and shit all over their hospitality and generosity. Whether you're mentally unwell or not, that makes you an asshole.)

Emily seems to have a lot of problems, she can't see that she boundary crosses without thought, her husband has separated from her (for whatever reason) and now she can't even keep clean and tidy like a normal person. Being civil is the best OP will ever get out of this relationship. Maybe the occasional overnight sleepover just as girls but nothing long term, she can't be trusted.

So much judgement.. And the OP automatically becomes the one who ppl support, because that's how reddit works. I think the sister is actually the normal one here, while OP lacks empathy.. NOTHING mentioned in the story seems that big a deal (except the first incident for which she actually apologized). In fact making a big deal out of those issues is such a dick move. Can't wait for the day OP is down & needs the sisters help.

She moved in with OP 2 years ago then got kicked out because she wanted OP to move out of HER OWN HOUSE OVER CHRISTMAS! Then comes back and is slovenly, disrespectful, dirty and a leech. Where is the lack of empathy? Twice OP has opened her house to the sister and both times has been abused. I think you need a reality check here if you think that this behaviour is acceptable. As for OP needing the sisters help I don't think that is on the horizon as Op is a stable person where as the sister is not.

Well, his niece did do wrong by drunk driving, but if she's 20 now, then she definitely was innocent in the whole debacle when her dad abandoned OP and, personally, didn't deserved retribution for that. So in the niece matter, it's simply just would an aunt and uncle help the niece they're not so close with? I'm glad OP helped her though. She seemed to be decent and responsible enough by recognizing that she had problem, wanting to rehab herself and paying for it herself. And as a 20 years old girl with physical and mental problem, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be able to earn enough money for the surgery herself without resorting to harmful or illegal way so OP's help could be a nice gift for her.

That's what I thought too. Having someone else pay remove them does not teach her responsibility for her actions. If she wants the scars removed then she should bear the burden of paying for it . Having her family pay to have them removed does not teach her that she is fully responsible for her decisions and she must be the one to deal with her bad decisions . Her realizing her problem and paying for her rehab is a good first step but she really needs her family to let her have the full weight of her bad choice put on her shoulders so she will know not to expect her family to bail her out or shelter her from her choices therefor she really needs to get her act together ASAP . It might sound heartless to some but you can't enable bad behavior with family if you really love them.

Title story: Massive NTA. Emily's demand was outrageous. I have to wonder if she is the Golden Child, used to always getting her way? Sorry to hear about her issues, and if this is depression, hope she gets help. But regardless, if she can't respect OP's space, she doesn't belong there.

First story, nta, the sister repeatedly disrespected her and her property. There's only so much that can be considered excusable before they gotta get their own crap sorted out. Second story, they abandoned OP in his time of need while op literally sold everything and sacrificed everything to save his son. Now the shoe is on the other foot, and the issues were self inflicted rather then something nobody could control or normally expect. They deserve the same treatment they gave OP, nothing. The in-laws and friend are the only people that deserve to share in OP's happiness.

“She knows we can never be friends” To me, this is emotional blackmail, or in layman’s terms: a guilt trip. I doubt she realizes she does it, because it seems to be a habit learned from results not study. My experience based on relationships with family, friends, co-workers, partners, and strangers. When they say: “I don’t think we can be friends.” It makes you ask yourself of you share that opinion. Usually, the answer to that hyperbole changes their response: “No, I think we could be friends” is met with conditions for the friendship. EG. “A friend would have...” “Yeah, you’re probably right” is met with A replacement for the relationship that still requires something from you. EG. “I hope we can be civil” “...” is responded to with one of the steps of grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance). The last one is really surprising, because the grief implies that they did believe the opposite of what they said to be true.

Family makes you related ONLY, you don’t have be loyal to anyone. This person needs to drop her friends and a lot of her family. Clearly they don’t understand/cared how people treat her. The second story, idc for him. He said “17 year old he gives advice”. Man whatever he’s not an asshole but that was an asshole-ish comment.

I found a cool dude online that made millions on crypto, I only gave him advice when everyone else was asking for money. How shameless. I get being desperate, but ffs people.

Back in Sparta if there was something wrong with the child physically or developmentally they just released them into the woods. This way they rationalize that they weren't directly killing them and that there was a chance. they would come back in a year and if the kid managed to live through it then they were accepted back.

# 1 Now, what kind of Christmas tradition that force you to kick out your family. The whole point of celebrating it was to get together with as much as family you can. Don't tell me that they both had swinger gangbang party planned, dear Lord... at least that was the only reason why you wouldn't want a family member in your house during Xmas. Or maybe i was thinking too far, but in my defense, it's modern society we're talking about # 2 "In our culture, you'd expected to support your family and community" Oh boy here we go, idk where you live sir, but where i lived we do have the same culture as you said. But, i chose to not follow it, because most of the time the people i help dont even return the favor, im not talking as if these people don't paid me back in the same length, but it's the kind of thing that they can absolutely do, they can afford to, but they chose not to, that gave me a hard slap to reality, if they weren't even want to help me, why bother? They only ask, not give. So i learnt my lesson,

The second story was horrible. If their culture was really about helping each other out in times of need then they should've helped this man when he needed it. Now that he's rolling in it he should go out of his way to help them with trivial bullshit? Screw that!

I drive rather fancy cars don't judge me too harshly lol it's the only thing I splurge on, based on that and the fact that I'm well know in the town I get at least 1 or 2 emails with sob stories every day asking for money, tbh it's annoying I do help the community by funding a free clinic that specializes in woman and children, but it doesn't turn men down they just have to make an appointment for certain days it's not sexist it's just alot of women are victims of domestic violence, also I own a methadone clinic I like to help in those kinds of ways cause I know my money is being put to use for it's intended purpose and 2 I'm no wait I also benefit from the public image they portrait.
