It pains me to see Larry seem almost ashamed of himself back then. Larry, those moments should always be a part of you. It doesn’t define you now but gives you something to look back on and relive great memories. I only wish I had footage of my teen years with me and my friends.

Man, I'm still the same Metalhead I was in 1989. Long hair, makeup, black clothes, earrings, etc. and I'm almost 52. I still play in bands and collect metal and horror. It's great to never "grow up".

Larry doesn’t seem to grasp what a legend he is. I hope one day he can see how beautiful these videos are. They captured him as an amazingly kind and confident teenager who was so wise at such a young age that he recognized the beauty in his community. He recognized the power of technology to showcase the beauty he saw in his community and the videos show his natural abilities as a leader and willingness to be a leader in his community and to be a guide in his community. He was an inspiration to those around him to be cheerful and active and free. I love all these videos that show the beautiful innocence and blossoming power of teenage boys who appear on the surface to be rebellious but are really just expressing their creativity and lust for life. Teenage boys are often misunderstood and do not get enough loving support in this world as they transition into manhood. Larry was that friend that embraced his status as a citizen at an early age and walked with a focus eye, a strong spine and spring in his step toward his future as a man. Rock on, Larry. I don’t know why Larry is so embarrassed and weird about all this. This was the greatest time of our lives. Being a metal head was the best thing ever! My girls and I had a metal band called tempest and we made shirts in art class and we were going to be the best female metal band ever! Now I have to pretend I succeeded lol and deal with being a surgeon lol but I still play metal during surgery! xoxox

I was 19 years old in 1989....hair down the middle of my back....as all my friends did....some of us in bands ....some of us just living the wild life, and I will never look back at those days embarrassed or ashamed, because we were living and memories like those are what to this day keeps us young as we reminisce now at 50 years old. We are all grown up and have families and amazing lives, but like I said, when we were younger, we lived!!! Great video guys...it's a cherished time machine or time capsule. Wish we had some. Cherish it!!!

Don't ever be embarrassed of who you were in the late 80s. Im only 3 years older than you and we were all like that ,you guys were just smart enough to film it. Life was a party back then and i too are still very fond of those days .some say i never left. Lol .

So cool seeing old friends from childhood hanging out and sharing memories from an old video they shot so many years ago. I had a group of friends as a kid. We called ourselves The Freedom Four. We hung out so much and loved the same music, food, taste in chicks and a love of the beach and surfing. We were inseparable. Where one was, the other 3 weren’t far away. Sadly, two of them have passed (Rest In Peace Matt and John) and Paul was badly wounded during The a Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm. He lives far away and we haven’t communicated in 20 years. Not sure if he’s still around. Hang on to your memories and stay in touch with your friends. Peace!

Larry was kind of shy in the beginning, but he opened up before long and really started to enjoy himself! I thought Larry was just precious in his metalhead mode at age 14, and he has grown into such a humble and sweet guy -- maybe a little too easily embarrassed! I just loved watching this.

I lived over hill behind Chuck-e-cheese (Showbiz!). I made videos on an old PXL2000 camera with my friends in the neighborhood. sadly the footage did not survive. My parents owned a house on Cloverdale. I met Larry & Darrell one summer (maybe earlier than the original "metalhead" video was filmed). Darryl had the USS Flagg GI Joe playset that took up a fifth of his bedroom. Hung out in the park near Larry's house (I never got to go in Larry's house either) and explored a large drainage tunnel and later walked through a trail near railroad tracks. good times.

I am exactly the same age as Eric and Darrel and me and my cousin used to film stuff just like this 30 years ago but unfortunately I lost almost all the tape about 15 years ago but we thought we were the only ones doing it. It blows my mind that in 1989 and 799 miles away from Belleville, Michigan to Huntsville, Alabama you boys were living life EXACTLY how we were. THANK YOU ALL for posting these memories. The 80s were simply the greatest times of our lives and the proof is here for everyone to see.

I enjoyed it thoroughly because this was such an authentic representation of the many wonders and the magic of growing up 80s. I was also privileged to have grown up in such an wonderful time. Love this. How I wish my childhood friends and I did this back in the 70s. Their older brother had an 8mm camera and he was creating stop animation with his H.S. Band buddies using coke bottles marching on a field.. This is priceless. Great childhood guys,. Brings laughter, and tears.

I was a senior in high school back in ‘89. It was standard procedure to have Iron Maiden and Metallica blasted in my 1980 Honda Civic. Fast forward to 2021, I still blast Iron Maiden and Metallica on my phone in my Honda Pilot.

34:47 You know, the part where Larry didn't seem to like the person/kid he was, made me wonder. You can see he is such a humble and well meaning person now. Does he blame those later indiscretions and poor choices we all make on that kid he saw in that video, the (cocky, arrogant, vane) kid, as he kept calling himself. I feel like Larry may be judging himself too harshly.

When I show people the few 80s pictures I have, shame is the least of things coming to me. I lived my teen Metal years proudly in a decade that many youngsters only can dream of.
