Maybe it's just my current mood but I think it's sad that we all have to grow up, get jobs, get and lose touch with our friends, leaving our carefree lives behind. It's losing touch with friends that's particularly sad to me. As kids we have lives and priorities that seem so important, and then it all just disappears. We become bankers, lawyers, bureaucrats, worry about paying bills and our taxes. And our lives become so stressful, I really long for those carefree days sometimes. I'm glad that Eric and Darrell have this special connection with their childhood and that they're still tight. But every time they bring one of their former friends on board and I hear they haven't been in touch since eighth grade, I find this rather sad, to be honest. Makes me think of all the friends I lost touch with too from those days.

Not seeing someone since the 8th grade is almost a lifetime. People change so much from middle school to adulthood, you wouldn’t even know that person anymore. You could have hung out all the time but when it’s that long ago and you were that young, it would be like starting over again

This channel has become like a 'soap' to me, you know, the TV shows that some people watch almost religiously. It's like I actually care about the characters even though I obviously don't know any of them in person. My girlfriend thinks I'm crazy that I watch Eric & Darrell videos repeatedly. But I'm an 80's kid and her a 90's, so she wouldn't understand just how magical the 80's were. Everything about the 80's I'm borderline obsessed with... The movies, the music, and just the way of life back then which has been lost now. Great to see that Keith is also still alive and well, and every bit as cool as he was back then! As is said in one of my favorite films from the 80's, Stand By Me, "I never had any friends like the ones I had when I was Twelve. Jesus, does anyone?". That line is so, so true.

Oh man... That was kinda emotional! I thought back to my friend Stanley, he was a "black kid" and he died from flu/pneumonia. I didn't live in that neighbourhood anymore, but we kept in touch. And as fate had it, my mom met their then youngest son (6 at the time) and their mum in the supermarket with his mom and he said: "Stanley is dead". When she came home she told me, I felt so deflated. Before that event I made the biggest fuck up. Because that then 6 year old kid, 13 years later became our intern. And I said: "I'll pick you up tomorrow because I am going to a cool customer that you may like. They make CT/MRI machines and I am implementing my image enhance/denoise algorithm. SO you can play with the MRI! Which is cool!" So I arrive at their old house (still live there to this day) and I ring the doorbell, like I did 100s of times before. And the family had another baby (now 14) after Stanley died. And she opened the door and I said: "Hi, is Stanley ready?" And she says: "Who???" -"Oh man! I am so so sorry! I meant Jurgen!" And the door to the living room opened and Romario (the dad) a tree of black man, still in awesome shape despite being in his 60s, and he belts: "Raymond! Oh man come on in! That's been ages!" -"I am so sorry Romaria! About the Stanley thing! I uh,..." "Don't be! You came here from age 6 to age 12 asking for Stanley, its just automatic. And I am glad you still remember him!" The irony has it that on March 4th 2014, I saw their mum again in the supermarket and we talked for an hour, catching up on all of their 6 kids and Romario. And exact at that moment my little brother died, I found out from his death certificate. And she has died in the meantime too, so it was also the last time I saw her. But the fact that my mum saw Jurgen who told her Stanley died that day. I never get why people talk so negative about black families? I mean these people were more decent than us! I got arrested several times as a teenager. None of them got into trouble, ever! That's also a Dutch Surinam thing: "keep quiet, hold your head down, don't draw any attention." Which must be terrible for kids to hear and grow up with. Gosh... How weird is it that Stanley died in 1988, 2 years after we moved and this video triggered some great memories. One of the funniest was that he had leg braces (he was prone to infection) and that infection knocked out his nervous system. So he could barely walk. But he was a fighter and 4 months in he was walking with leg braces. But those shoes had slippery soles. And there was this black ice storm. So 7 year old me figured we poor grid salt on his shoe soles. So he lays on the outside bench, I pull his leg up and poor salt on his shoes. And I see my dad through the window, tapping his forehead. When I lowered Stanley's leg I understood why my dad tapped his forehead. The grid salt just fell off :D So we pulled Stanley on the sled, which was NOT easy on all that black ice. His brother and I fell over quite a lot. Man... us 70s kids had the best childhoods!
