My all time favourite non Australian cricketer. I was too young to see the early part of his career, but I got to see him in the late 70's and early 80's on his numerous tours of Australia and I loved watching him bat, he was both elegant and brutal. He was also a wonderful fielder, although by the time I started watching he was primarily a slips fielder due to back injuries (IIRC). He was a terrific captain, a great ambassador for West Indian cricket and wonderful human being. Happy 76th Birthday Clive.

@chriswatson79653 жыл бұрын
Out of Tests where the number of balls were counted Lloyd had a strike rate of 58 (4327 off 7489). The thing about Lloyd is that he would play the innings that suited the position of play and the character of the wicket. So some of his innings were really quick - eg: 183 off 149 vs Ind in Bengaluru 1974, in the 2nd Innings to get a declaration. Or really slow eg: 53 off 160 vs Aus in Sydney 1969, in a 1st innings reply of 279 to Aus' 619 where he was trying to slow the game as much as possible to get a draw. In the Brisbane innings of 1984 he sped to his century, trying to get as many runs as possible with the last recognised batsman, and then slowed right down with Marshall at the crease and WI in control.
