Yo yo yo!!! WHATS UP YOU TUBE.....
Jim back again with another video for you all!
this one shows me doing a Ford Focus 1 litre ecoboost water pump gasket,
If yours is leaking either do it or get it done urgently or your engine will blow- you have been warned!!!
this job is a massive one ,book time for a pro is 6 hours!
coincidentally all this will need doing when the cambelt comes for changing eventually which will suck big time and be expensive so the video has more use than 1,
You can see what to remove, although I do not show how to remove all the wiring and pipes to get to components in this one, or else the video would be wayyyyyyyyy to long but you get a good idea...

Hi. Congratulations for your work, good video. I have a Ford C Max 1.0 ecoboost. Observe a small drop in the coolant level, take the car to the official technical service and it was repaired in warranty. Now the car works perfectly, the Ford service did a good job and fast. I regularly check the coolant level and the temperature of the motor in the hidden computer of the control panel, the temperature of the motor does not rise excessively. 84-87º in movement and 90-97º in urban ciruclacion with traffic retentions. At 97º the electric fan is put into operation. Thanks

Wow,what a crazy amount of work for a water pump gasket.I have a 2014 Fiesta Zetec S which I bought new.I don't use the car much,I'm a motorcyclist,the car has just clocked 7000 miles.I have had no issues to date apart from the crap brakes and fuel consumption,which talking to other Fiesta owners,is standard for this model.However,I am considering selling this car after reading a lot about the valves building up carbon deposits on the back of the valves causing misfiring,a product of direct injection I suppose.I am told Ford have no fix for this at the moment but are happy to supply a new cylinder head.In 52 years of driving,this is the first Ford I have ever owned, it will be my last.Great video by the way,thanks.

Was buying this car from Carvana and waterpump went out during first week. Looking at this amount of work for a $80 part I decided not to keep it. They didnt offer to fix it and I was stuck with filling claims and waiting for help. Missed 2 weeks of real work since I had no ride. Waiting for them to bring another car with a basic engine, if I am paying for it I want something I can fix myself. Ford let me down on this one, I guess so did carvana lmfao! Thanks for the video, if I had the tools I could do this with your amazing video tutorial! Awesome

@@williamm3820 There should be more bad publicity generated for Ford over this imo. They market these small engined cars as being 'green' and environmentally friendly, but what is green about designing a disposable car which needs replacing after 10 years even though it's probably still in perfect condition other than needing an absurdly complex and expensive belt change? I also don't think the general public are widely aware yet of the 'time bomb' of replacing these belts. I looked at one major car review website which said these engines are fine, no problems, and never mentioned the belt issue. And the price of used 1.0 Fiestas is sky high right now, and guaranteed none have had the belt changed yet.

Такую конструкцию с ремнем можно создать только специально, чтоб тянуть деньги с клиентов в авто сервисе. Форд упал для меня на самое дно. Сам никогда не куплю и другим не посоветую.Such a design with a belt can only be created specifically to pull money from customers in an auto service. Ford fell to the bottom for me. To anyone planning to do a timing belt replacement on it, beware about TWO wetbelts. You need to separately request the oil pump drive belt to be changed. I didn't know it and Ford dealership I choose to go with did not replace it. They did not provide any recommendations or concerns so I presume the oil belt isn't wearing out as fast (Ford also don't have any official recommendation on when to replace it). Paying an extra 10 or 20 % of the price to get it done in one go along with the oil pump as well is wort it in my opinion and the garages should ask the customer if they want it replaced. Hope mine don't snap on me in the upcoming years

I think if I were doing that job there would be a new belt being fitted regardless of mileage when you do that much work and the belt is sitting staring at you. Also, would it be correct to say that the crankshaft timing belt pulley is not keyed to the crank? Why else fit all the timing gear on.

Hey Jim, question… what’s the point in the VVT timing tool? You remove it with the case so it’s not holding anything, I don’t get it. I’ve done probably 40+ cambelts on these and always wondered what’s the point, I don’t bother now tbh.
@ALLTHINGSJIM

Its to make sure the cams are in the correct position for the top camshaft locking tools I believe, so you know 100% its timed correctly for engine top end rebuilds where you need to remove the cam pulleys etc 👍

Its to ensure its fully timed perfectly and to also aid in breaking off the crank bolt as its ridiculously tight, if these engine are out of time even slightly they either wont run or will run exactly like a bag of spanners in a washing machine. I dont know if your suggestion would work but personally I probably wouldnt try it 👍

Ignore all marks on the cam sprockets. You need to look on the cams themselves theres a square part with a qr code printed on one side. Both of those need to be facing upwards. Then test fit the front cover with the sprocket holding tools in to make sure its 100% before you silicone 👍

I haven't experienced any failures for this time. I have the vehicle maintenance done 15,000 km on a regular basis. As far as I'm researching, the timing belts of these engines are quite robust and have a lifetime equivalent to engine life. When do you think we should change this belt? How many kilometers was the vehicle in the video? The belt looks pretty clean. Thanks for your interest, good work.

thanks! yeah ford have said these engine belts "should" last the expected lifetime of the engine, however if it was my car id want it changing around the 125,000 mile /201,168 km sort of mark just to be safe. a belts going to cost a lot less than an engine or new car! and in my view its still only a belt not a chain. plus if it were to break i doubt ford would even entertain warranting it!- hope that answers your question 👍

Also, I can see you locked in the cams, however didn't see anything locking in the lower crack? is it just a case of locking to top cams? and them just making sure the bottom crack is lined up with the hole when re-fitting? What, or did you support the engine when you removed the mount? Is there only ONE belt change? no others? Thank you Jim top man

The cranks locked with a locking pin that goes underneath the driveshaft mount where the torque amplifier bolts on to, the pin on the pully is literally just to time the pully up, the water pump itself is on the actual front cover, and yes i supported the engine with an axle stand and block of wood under the sump and yes theres only one belt unless you want to change the oil pump one while there which is just behind the timing belt (may involve taking sump off too) but thats supposed to be a" for life" belt according to ford , thanks for watching 👍

No not really , give it a very close look in the problem areas and if your sure its not got a leak id go to a main dealer and get them to pressure test it, it may be leaking from the head into the cylinder bores and when they check it ,it will then fail to start and be pretty much buggered if it is which means a replacement engine. Or they may just find it leaking from somewhere you couldnt see. Eitherway it needs checking asap as they dont last long without water 👍

@ALLTHINGSJIM 5 жыл бұрын
NO!!! Don't try to cut corners and do it other than shown unless you want to damage your engine , the trouble is that with the amount of force put through the crank when tightening or even undoing it the flywheel locking tool alone couldnt hold it plus if these even move a slight bit out of time it will likely just not run after. This is the official way to do it and on these engines its best to do it that way. 👍

Short answer though is no its not normal consumption, it shouldn't use up any water so if you believe it is loosing coolant get it checked better safe than sorry. Hope that helps 👍

Both engines still use same oil dipped timing belt that is what gives then the durability, unlike those crap tsi from vw and bmw and Mercedes that break chain belts and everything you put inside within a few years. Yes this design makes it hard to replace a water pump and a timing belt. But the last 2 generations of ecoboosts have suffered some internal redesigns. Including the water pump. I just hit 10 k km and changed the oil. Did the sand with my sister car. Ford says 20k I prefer 10k for the extra reliability. Ford ecoboost has no major problems with oil delution... Unlike the recent finds on Honda new 1.0and 1.5 engines, Kia hyundai t gdi snd Toyota new 1.2 t engines..... New tech, new designs, cost of maintenance increases, but if you do the precise intervals, you will have car for many years and kms.

The cost of this gasket is £0.93 . So much work on an engine engine designed not to be repaired these are now coming into the workshop in droves. If they over heat the heads crack internally AND the dephasers can seize we have had a few and you find out on restart and the fresh oil unseizes them which means another complete strip down. BBC did a program on them. We advise any one wanting a fiesta go for the 1.25, bullet proof and been going in basic form since 1995 just change the oil. I guess ford wanted to be on par with VW 1.0 3 cylinder engine which eats timing chains , jumps and empties your wallet. This is a very good video the tools are expensive so borrow if you can,new friction washer is an absolute MUST
@ALLTHINGSJIM
@ALLTHINGSJIM 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Also had a few in where after other people have done the repair , the oil pickup / strainer has got blocked from old silicone debris causing the engine to blow up and the newer models with the modified front cover weve seen just leak oil from the headgaskets all the way down the engine so its had to be replaced. The old engine is by far superior in my opinion but they have stopped making it due to emission limits, id guarentee though in ten years time those engines would still be plodding along unlike these...

Ok when I first start the car in the morning it takes about 2 to 3 seconds for the oil pressure light to go out and during this time there is a distinct rattling from the engine. Once the oil pressure light goes out the rattling stops. After that if you turn the car off the oil pressure comes up instantly when restarted and the engine runs perfectly with no noises during us, but if left for say a couple of hours it happens again but for not as long. It's like the oil is draining back into the sump and has to refill all the galleries, the rattling reminds me of the old corsa cam chain rattle. Things I've done to fix so far are change oil and filter, changed oil pump and changed the oil pressure control solenoid. All parts were brand new and from my local Ford dealer. Ford say its normal for this car but I'm sceptical about that. Any help would greatly appreciated.
@ALLTHINGSJIM
@ALLTHINGSJIM 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Sounds odd, obviously without taking a look myself I cant really tell... These engines are rattle boxes though, I take it the front covers been off? Might be worth checking the oil strainer if your having problems with the oil pressure - I say this as weve recently had to replace an engine for a different garage when it went pop, because when the front cover was done some of the old silicone they had scraped off had dropped into the sump and got picked up blocking the strainer causing oil starvation... Have you actually tested oil pressure or are you going on the light being on? Oh also as an after thought might be worth triple checking the timing especially at the vvt units
@stephenoseman504
@stephenoseman504 4 жыл бұрын
Ok after doing some research when I first started looking into it there were people mentioning the oil strainer issue so I removed the sump checked it it was clean. I also spoke to another engine guy who said there was an oil control valve in the pump that may be faulty so suggested changing the oil pump, so I replaced it with a brand new genuine Ford part. He also mentioned the control solenoid which again I replaced. It's also had oil and filter changes each time. I will get my garage to check the timing when they do the water leak. My dad has the same car but a 2016 plate and that doesn't do it. I have been told they are rattling boxes so could be normal but just sounds wrong from my years of experience but as I said I'm learning all the time. Many thanks Steve O.

@ALLTHINGSJIM
@ALLTHINGSJIM 4 жыл бұрын
With private message- not that Im aware of..... Regarding the special tools unfortunately most of them are required, there are no marks as such to indicate the engines timing like on most engines, the crank pin is used to time the lower half of the engine before putting the top cam tools in which time up the vvt units and make sure they are correct, the torque converter is needed just because of the sheer amount of force needed to tighten and loosen the crank pully bolt and the flywheel locking tool is needed as the crank pin would bend with all the force needed from tightening the crank pully bolt, the only thing thats not really needed as you can use a spanner is the actual camshaft alignment holding tool that holds the shafts not the pulleys and the small pin for the crank pully as you can just use a drill bit thats the correct size if needed

Is there a way to tell if this fix has been done to my Ecoboost?

Hi there! As far as ive seen it for some reason only really effects the focus at the minute (strange i know, they have the same engine!) a way to tell if it has had it thou is to look down past the top turbo pipe to the back of the engine block where the back of the waterpump would be, if it has been done it will possibly have a silicone smudge where the gasket hole pops out the back of the pump by the block, if not you will see a rubber tab poking up and out meaning its the original gasket. Its also worth noting if you have a newer model engine it may not have this particular problem as they have modified the engine cover. Hope that helps 👍

That's going to be a big bill for the owner for just a water pump

Just the gasket! It will be expensive for owners if there engines last to cambelt change! Luckily most the waterpump gaskets are covered under a ford warrenty / goodwill as its a known problem 👍

Do you know if it's true that the issue has been fixed on later models? I have a 2014 Ford Focus and after seeing this i'm terrified of this problem, but according to the news here in Sweden Ford upgraded the front engine cover in 2013 fixing this issue. I'm pretty handy when it comes to cars and engines but seriously wtf Ford...

Erm, its true they did modify the front engine cover yes and it will depend on your build date of the car to which cover you have, which solved it leaking from this gasket, however there has been a few leaking from the headgasket now instead so its still not a perfect engine, that being said I wouldnt let it worry you too much though

This is the proof to stay out of Ford 1.0 f***boost engine. Changing the timing belt of that engine costs at the dealer garage in Finland 1200 EUROS!!!!! Oh my God!!! Nice video though. Respect to you mate! :-)

think i'd be cheaper letting my engine die then putting a newer one in.
