The drought and extreme we had in August definitely contributed to the burnt blooms. You may have experienced the same as us? These do better with cooler temps in August.

Tracy, your garden looks so lush!!! How is that possible with all the heat we got and watering less frequent? My plants looks so tired with every day watering! It couldn't keep up with the sun.
@TracysHomeGarden

I think it is because the garden is planted so thick that helps to shade the surface and reduce evaporation. This is the first year I decided to water less and is very surprised by their results as well. We had a very dry and warm August and I think I hose watered the garden about 2 times. Mind you the plants in pots are self watering and those without get water from me every 2-3 days.

Tracy, all of the colors together, in your front gardens, complement each other and are gorgeous! I too would sit outside in the rain in your beautiful front or back gardens any day! I have a huge, variegated sedum growing in a large planter and it has been growing in that pot for 3 years now and it is massive. I will take cuttings from it to plant in the ground in other places next spring. I love how adaptable and easy to propagate those plants are and they look great in every season. I also have Autumn Joy and Matrona Sedum plus several (that I don't know the names of) which have dark foliage. I hope you are enjoying the weekend! ~Margie🤗💐🦋

@@TracysHomeGarden Do you ever tip prune your Autumn Joy sedum so you get a stockier, bushier plant in the fall? I have several that I need to divide soon, but I also am debating if I should do a Chelsea Chop on some of them next year.

Tracy, you have such a beautiful garden first off. I am obsessed with it. I do have a question in regards to your bobo’s. You mentioned they got burnt Bc they weren’t watered enough or getting enough water. Will regular watering prevent the blooms being burned( how much to water… we did have a hot summer. I enjoyed them maybe two weeks and all my blooms got burned. So sad
@courtneypowell7409
@courtneypowell7409 Жыл бұрын
Also where you have the three Bobo where you mentioned one didn’t do well. You have a purple plant in front of it. What is that one called. It’s so situated to the left
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
It’s a Crimson Queen Japanese Maple. I think deep watering (ie 2-4 gallons per plant depending on size….slow drip/watered over 30 mins) every 2-3 days during the heat would be best for hydrangeas. We often water but most of the water run off the surface of the plants and/or the roots don’t have enough time to soak in the water…this is probably one of the reasons why the panicles burn. Hope your Bobos do better next year Courtney. 🤞

Amazing garden, do any of your panicle hydrangeas wilt during the hottest hours or during the hottest periods of summer?
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
The Macrophylla and smooth hydrangeas do wilt a little bit in full sun during the hottest part of our summer…only because they get watered every 4-5 days from me. If I had watered them every two days - they may do better. Panicle hydrangeas like a lot of sun and never wilt.

It’s coming to the end of my 3 season gardening but there is still so much to learn and I appreciate your tips, tricks and advice! I’ll defiantly be watching more to learn as much as I can during the off season. I make garden videos too and Id love to learn more from each other as we grow!

Hi Tracy. Question........ I have a very large cotton cream paniculata hydrangea which has been kept in a large pot container. I have a large sturdy, strong stem to the off side of the middle of the plant which I would like to separate to make into a standard and keep the rest as shrub based. I have watched your videos on how to make a standard but I cannot tease the roots away on this particular hydrangea. My question to you is: Can I saw through the plant and roots to divide this beautiful hydrangea ? I hope you can help. I have made other standard hydrangeas from watching your videos which has always worked extremely well. XX
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Helen, Yes, you can saw through the roots and separate it into three…but this may be better for the divided plants if you did this in late winter or early spring (just when the leaf buds start to form) and the cool temperatures are better for root growth. This way the cut or torn or broken roots can easily generate and grow.

They do best in full sun and a little bit of rose fertilizer in spring and after the first bloom. Perhaps yours is in partial sun? May be good to move it now into a more sunny location…6 weeks or so before your first frost. Hope you get it to bloom next spring.

Your garden looks beautiful Tracy!! Have recently planted some autumn joy sedum too and enjoyed learning how to care for them. Ours aren’t standing up straight like yours. They’re flopping over and just laying on the ground. Perhaps I’m watering them too much, not sure what’s wrong with them. 💚🪴😊
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
Sedums do best in dry soil with no fertilizers. Fertilizers tend to make them grow taller and floppy. You should divide them now to help them along. All the best
