I love the roses in early summer when they don’t get bothered by Japanese beetles and before the hydrangeas come into bloom. Now, the beetles 🪲 come and eat the buds and leaves before I even get to see them. Luckily the beetles leave most of my hydrangeas alone so at this time in the season I definitely prefer hydrangeas over roses for that reason. But nothing beats the scent of the roses in a garden so I think we need both…hydrangeas for the summer blooms, roses for early summer blooms and fragrance….💚😁💚

I can’t tell you enough how much I love your beautiful yard. It is perfect I have been trying to grow hydrangeas for years. They always die for me. One is been in the ground for a year and it’s never bloomed. Do you grow most of yours in pots?I don’t even know how you got this many to do so well. I am in Mississippi and I have never seen a yard is pretty as yours.I’m thinking my growing zone is 8a.

In zone 8, you can plant big leaf hydrangeas in the shade and get them to bloom easily. Panicle hydrangeas like Limelight, Limelight Prime, or Fire Light Tidbit would do well in partial shade. To get them to bloom, make sure you don’t give them too much fertilizers…a smallest amount possible or just give them 1-2 cups of compost each spring. Also, deep and slow watering for at least 20-30 mins would be best. Hopefully your hydrangeas will do well and bloom. Thank you Sandy! 💚🙏💚

Just a magnificent garden. It makes my day just to look at your channel. It's just so heavenly😊 I'm so excited to get all 20 of mine Panicle Hydrangea in the ground this fall. I'm really wanting to turn the Limelights and Quick Fires into standard's but I'm terrifed I'm going to ruin them. I will definetly be looking at your tutorial on how to do that and also prune all of them. My biggest struggle is where to plant them. I want them very close together like yours. I'm also having a hard time figuring out what kind of evergreens to plant with them so I have some color all year round. I go outside and rack my brain with idea's everyday. I have a clean slate pretty much in the back yard and a semi clean slate in the front. How many Panicles do you have it pots and how do you care for them over the planted in soil ones? Thank you for sharing.😊

Hi Mary, Your garden will be stunning with all of the hydrangeas! 💚 I have a few hydrangeas in pots and they need more attention than the plants in ground as they tend to be easily damaged by wind and the elements more easily. Yes, do make some hydrangeas trees…I have done a few videos already….hopefully you can start with the easiest method and once you get the hang of it you can do a few more. It is so much fun 🤩 Mary. Happy gardening 💚🙏💚

Good morning Tracy, hope you and your family are doing well. As all the viewers before me I too get so much pleasure from your garden. I’m not sure if you have answered this question before but how old are your limelight hydrangeas? Also is it because you formed them into trees that they are so lush and full. My 2 that I planted last May have grown but looking more like a shrub. Should I graft them into tree form as well? Thank you and enjoy the rest of this gorgeous Sunday😀
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Lorraine, Are your Limelights bush or tree form? The Limelight trees I have are not grafted but we’re trained as a “stick” 6 years ago…so I would say they are now into their 5th years as tree form. You can follow some of the videos I have made to train your limelight into tree forms. I do love the large limelight bush form but I just don’t have enough space for two 8x8 bushes in the back garden. I had to train mine into tree forms to fit into the corners…so I could still plant other stuff below the canopy. Happy gardening 💚🙏💚

Tracy, do you have your hydrangeas on some sort of staking system. By August my BoBo petites flop over every time we get a rain storm and some of the leaves are yellowing. I don't know if that is an iron issue or what that could be. Always enjoy your beautiful videos. Have a good week.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
Hi Janet, A few leaves turning yellow and drop during blooming is okay but many leaves turning yellow showing dark green “veins” is a sign of chlorosis. Chlorosis could be a pH issue. I only have the trees staked and not the bushes. Sometimes new plants can be floppy as the plant matures, their stems will get stronger and be less floppy. If you wanted stronger stems, prune the plant no more than 30% next winter. Hopefully that helps. 💚💚💚

@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
If hydrangeas on clearance rack will not need much fertilizer…I would just plant them in the ground to get their roots to establish. Any feeding should be for next spring. I would give it a smallest amount of an all purpose fertilizer…like 10-10-10 (N-P-K) or 1-2 cups of compost. All the best. 💚🙏💚

Hi Tracey! Love your sweet videos. The way you take your time to explain things, and how nice and impeccable your garden is, really makes it all so relatable. I’m trying to pick a hydrangea for a hedge along my new fence which will be four feet high. I want to put plantings in front of it, so I don’t want it to be too short, and I don’t want them to be so tall as to overwhelm the fence. When I look at the purported sizes, it’s hard for me to tell how true they are going to get. I have seen that they can be pruned back a bit, so it might be okay to err on the larger size, but I’m still undecided. I love the little limelight, and the new punch so far (so cute). Also, it looks as if a firelight might work? There will be full sun, and I’ve seen bo bo burn, so I would worry a bit about that. It would have to be rather heat resistant, even though I’m in zone 6a. Would you be so kind as to share your thoughts? BTW nice job on starting your annuals from seed! 😘
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
You could plant Firelight…although the tag says 6-8 ft, mine get only 4 ft tall and wide as I prune them back hard. If the fence is only 4 ft tall, you can plant the Little Lime Punch? I’m not sure how big it gets (yet) but it should be 3-4 ft tall and wide (just going with the original Little Lime prediction). I think I would definitely plant Little Lime Punch for the semi early white blooms in early summer and beautiful fall colors .

Hi there, Sheridan, Cannon, etc…all the nurseries have great seed selection. You can also find some common seeds at local Home Depot, Lowes, etc as well. I do prefer to shop at the garden nurseries but I don’t usually buy too many seeds as I usually collect my own and replant next year. All the best. 💚💚💚

Hi Belinda, You actually don’t have to prune them at all. All you need to do: 1) remove the old spent blooms at the top; 2) remove broken stems; and 3) remove weak flimsy stems. Give each plant 1-2 cups of compost or a smallest amount (less is more) of slow release fertilizer like 10-10-10 (N-P-K ratio) in late winter or early spring….💚🙏💚

Yes, although the Limelight with more sun ☀️ may need to be watered more often and deeply as you are at the warmer heat zone 8-10 end. You will have nothing else to worry about as you get mild winters and cooler summer temps than other parts of Europe. Happy planting hydrangeas 💚💚💚

My Bobos and Fire Light did not set very good blooms this year. They are small with some dried spots and did not open fully. I kept them well watered this summer. Almost every day. It is their first summer after being planted last summer. They are in a sunny to part shade area. Is it just the summer or am I doing something wrong. I fertilized early spring with a rose fertilizer.
@TracysHomeGarden
@TracysHomeGarden Жыл бұрын
I could be that you give it too much water? Small flower buds that die could be a sign of that. Water every other day would be more suitable for plants Rich. Rose fertilizers should okay for Bobo so I don’t think this is the issue. Does the area get 4-6 hours of sun? I have Bobos with that much sun and they bloomed well. Anything less than 4-6 hours of sun may also be a reason for the poor blooms. Hope the plants do better for you.
