This episode of The Fab Forums, I finish up the lower a arms, anti roll bar and start on the x bars for the tube chassis.
Welcome to The Fab Forums. My name is Kyle Voss and I produce Custom Motorsports Fabrication content of all forms for you. Carbon Fiber, TIG Welding, Metal Shaping, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, Custom Choppers, and everything in between. I work hard to bring you new content on a weekly basis.
Here are some of the builds you can find on this channel.
I have built several Chevy trucks on this channel. The first was my 1964 C10 named Crown Spoyal and the most recent C10 truck project was the 1969 I currently have named the Black Pearl.
I am also finishing up a custom twin turbo Ford Mustang build I call the Gray Goose. It’s a 400 cubic inch Windsor style engine with twin 70mm turbos. I am hoping to make around the 1000 horse power mark to the tires on this particular build.
Last but not least is the one off custom hot rod build called the Bibbster. This is what I call a modern day hot rod. It’s made from an old Ford Mustang foxbody, but made to look like an old school open wheeled hot rod.
I also feature other fabricators and shops like Cutworm Specialties hand formed aluminum wide body kit for a BMW e46. Jeb Greenstone has also built a twin turbo, coyote powered model A style hot rod from scratch, and is currently building a Toyota TE72 wagon drift car powered by a 1UZ Lexus v8. Jeb’s custom fabrication skills are fun to watch and always make for good videos.
Check out my playlist to see some or all of these builds.

I can't say enough about your entire build. The educational value in watching you work through the design and build, totally on the fly, one item at a time is a rare thing. You'll going to have quite a collection of functional conversation pieces. I've been thinking, the door X brace, that you don't really need, could become an interesting dual purpose item. A tube, hinged slightly behind the door's vertical center and latched in the front, could serve as a armrest when horizontal plus swing up to a 2nd latch/anchor point and become part of the X brace whenever you feel the need. Just a thought, can't help it... damn, got a name too, The Arrn'or Brace System. Cheers

Looks awesome dude. I see now what you were saying about the arms. I have tubular arms on my fox and the arm broke where the cross tube welded to the rearmost tube. I fixed the issue by running a brace covering both tubes (along the length from the rear heim to the front heim) so that the stress isn’t on that one welded joint. Keep up the great work!

Nice video! A couple thoughts. Why not make the turbo pipe to the intake with just one bend by moving the turbo discharge to the centerline of the engine? And, on your rear sway bar--when one tire hits a bump something WILL bend, either the tube, the arms or a mount. Make sure what bends is what you want to bend! Love where the front end is headed. Finally, please don't add much sheet metal to the rear body. You really got it right about showing off all the mechanics you've built back there. Into the future as you develop the rad ducting, know that the air pressure below the rad (coming from under the floor pan) will be higher than that on the top. It will take some effort to reverse air flow from top to bottom. You hinted that you were going to have air enter from the triangular openings in the body, down through the rad, and out the bottom. I think that will be really tough to make happen, pressure gradient-wise. Good luck, and keep them coming.
@Thefabforums
@Thefabforums 6 жыл бұрын
Tube is just mock up...will be different. I have had an anti roll bar in the twin turbo car for 13 years, haven't bent anything yet. Rear mounted radiators are used all the time in the drift world, making constant high revving passes with no heat issues...Im not worried

This build is great and very Impressive. It shows your talent well. Looking forward to some of the carbon fibre work. I've never worked on any of that and I'm curious to see it. I will say whenever I see the upper link connections on the rear axle they don't have the rounded flow that everything else on the car has. They look "store bought", I would think if you made those they would blend more with the rest of the chassis. I'm going out to me garage to "do some work son". LOL

Hey Kyle, I worked at a Citroën dealership here in Belgium. The rear suspenion on a Citroen C5 has two real compact cilinders that act as a spring and shock. The also have ride height adjustment as standard. Maybe look in to that for your suspension.

it would be cool if you used the Cobra-style foxbody Mustang wing over the rear wheels, and cut the side parts of the wing to be like a small continuation of the fender. or maybe cut the wing in half and swap the sides around so it leans outwards from the middle and you'll have two wings sitting high over the rear wheels

My anti-roll bar is meant to "twist" as the torque tries to lift one side of the car. I have splines on the ends of the bar. The attached "struts" on the ends has splines that fit over the splined bar. That way if the bar is too stiff or too soft, it can easily be changed. My bar is solid stainless. Competition Engineering has a selection of different stiffnesses, already splined. So, don't weld them together.

Amazing ! I like what you’re thinking with the front suspension. Maybe take a look at how the prototype LMP-1/2/3 and even formula cars lay their suspensions down and use cantilever/bellcranks to redirect the energy and movement up front. Would leave those tires super exposed which is what I think you’re aiming for ..(?)... it’s going to be unreal to see finished. I almost can’t wait !

Correct. At first I was driving with straight up hydraulics. That was so rough. We installed accumulators pressurized with nitrogen. Basically like having an airbag. The accumulator is basically just in line to the cylinder using a t fitting . You can adjust the pressure based on the corner weight of the vehicle so when you’re riding it glides smoothly. I had a slow 24 V system

Dirt Heretic 83, so you adjusted the nitrogen pressure.....do you recall how large the accumulator was?

Mike Grady I didn’t adjust them myself at that time. I was a teen. I could now with my resources. They were slightly bigger than my fist.

The accumulator system will work but the ride will be rough as hell. I know...its a hot rod..comfort comes second. Would be cool to see the system. Motorcycles / snowmobiles have run this type of suspension for years.

if you decide to go with the strut set up. you may want to use struts from a 87 Camaro. they will bolt to the fox spindle and over all are 3 inches shorter.

Dude the build is wicked but if it was a mid rear engine that wouldve been a reasonable way to showoff the rear end and it also helps with the chassis twisting!!

Hey Kyle, I'm curious if you have thought about making some louvers for the rear. I think it would not only look sick but it would allow air to flow through. Then you could have your window right behind your head giving you some protection from the radiator. Also it's a fox body classic Haha! In reality I broke the window in my vert and I want you to show me how lol. As always awesome work man!

I"m always amazed how people who don't know anything always try to put in their 2 cents. K, do you have a CADD program you can run the geometry through to check for stress points and possible binding issues? They're not terribly expensive and can save you some heartache. So far i've been following your progress and I don't see any potential issues so far. Use stainless for the body panels, it looks bad ass.

Great build. You should just close the rear body lines up and have the axle and bars showing since the frontend gonna be expose. But cant wait to see the next post

Great work!!! For the front suspension could you mount the bottom of the struts to the car chassis and then mount hydraulic cylinders in place of the struts on the spindle and cantilever them to the top of the struts where the struts bearing would be? Then you could lay them over maybe cross them in front of the engine or run them front to back beside the engine. I'm not sure if how I'm explaining what im thinking makes sense.
