In this video, I run the REEDY SP5 through it's my normal testing. Then I compare the numbers with other top performing motors I have tested.
***** UPDATE *****
These motors do not have temperature sensors in them. That explains why there were no temp readings. @Paulgritt2389 was nice enough to gather than info for us.

ive heard a few people say this is one of the best motors that they have driven (carpet off road). If I get one, ill spend a track day testing sp5 / Surpass / Fantom in the same car. See how the numbers equate to driving feel.

It's a good motor, I don't doubt that. It just boots down to personL driving style. If you run all 3 on a track, it would be nice to hear your thoughts on them.

I've been running the Surpass Rocket V6. It is noticable faster than my Trinity certified Slot Machine,and runs cooler as well.

I have heard the same from many other drivers. $80 for a motor that keeps up with a certified $160 motor is pretty impressive.

I contacted Reedy their motors do not have a temp sensor. Also running this in my b6.2 it has so much torque I am running a 33 tooth pinion where I used to run a 25. Motor stays cool.

Speed does care- what are the cutouts for? And the Trinities have bad stators anyway lol
@wutupclegg6618
@wutupclegg6618 3 ай бұрын
LOL... Heat does affect the motors speed. As for the cutouts, that is a topic that can state a big debate. Some believe you need some material to help absorb the heat. Kind of like a heatsink Also. The one that believe that, believe the cutouts are only good for reducing weight. The other side believes the cutouts are to allow the stator to dissipate heat. To be honest, I can see it both ways. In the end, get a fan. LOL....

Thanks for the review! Looks like a great motor and I can see why you're recommending it for short, tight tracks. Seems like the Surpass & 5% Trinity would all be on a par from what you're showing there i.e. Very close rotor torque and Kv values. For the $ I would go the Surpass, if I could get one. They're not available easily in Australia. ( >_< )

Yes, they are all good motors, and like you said, for $30 less, it's hard to pass up the Surpass. Surpass sells their motors on eBay. I think they offer free international shipping.

Not all motors have built in temperature sensors. Hobbywing motors have them, but I don't know if any other company puts them in their motors.
@wutupclegg6618

That's true. Some don't have the temp sensors. Out of all the racing motors, I have tested, this is the only one that did show a sensor. I haven't hears if this is normal with the Ready motors.

More machined edges means more surface area more cooling, more speed.

True, but if a motor has more torque, then it will not build up as much heat at the sane speed.

42:04 i just noticed you have the fantom helix rs listed as a "spec edition". is that the base $90 motor? on amain i only see 2 motors for sale. both are "spec" motors. one is a "team edtion" and the other is a "works edition". they list both the motors as "spec motors" in the title.

Is it more important to have a good speed controller or a good motor? If you were on a budget would buying either one usedvbe a viable option?
@wutupclegg6618
@wutupclegg6618 3 ай бұрын
A good ESC is a better purchase. They can last years, while a motor is only cheaper and wers out quicker. I would stay away from used electronics, if you're on a tight budget. If the unit ends up not working, or working poorly, then you're out what you paid for it. Will you be racing or just bashing around a field?

@wutupclegg6618 I'm planning to race at whip it raceway in Reno Nevada, I'm thinking about getting a hobbywing GS3 and a hobbywing G4 motor. I also need a battery. Those are the last 3 things I need, There is actually a big race there tonight, but I'm not ready yet. I bought a Used associated roller and a uses traxxes TQI radio and receiver.

can you make your spreadsheets public? its supper hard to pause the screen and keep track of which numbers are for which motor when you can even see the name of the motor. gotta keep track of which ones you tested in the first place, then you gotta keep track of which row they were in , then the hardest thing to keep track of is how far up or down you scrolled.

9:56 its hard to just forget about the temp. if the temp is wrong what else is wrong? is there any other numbers that are off? is there any reliable data in this video (for that motor0? 21700 pms is very low for 5.75 amps. 21:05 correct me if im wrong but theres plenty of motors with rotors that strong that are running much higher rpms. after watching the whole video it seems like a mediocre motor.
@wutupclegg6618
@wutupclegg6618 6 ай бұрын
All are good points. However, I have to report what I see. I have to leave the assumptions to the viewers. Lower RPMs could be due to many things. The motor might be designed for big torque, which is what a lot of racers like on small tracks.

That RPM is at only 7.4V. A fully charged Lipo would be 8.4V so the RPM would be much higher. Close to 25,000 on a fully charged lipo.
@wutupclegg6618
@wutupclegg6618 6 ай бұрын
@@joeld2llio that is correct. And at the same time, torque needs to be taken into account. You can have an RPM monster, but without torque, those RPMs are useless under a load.
