The Hollywood Reporter states, "Game of Thrones ended, and David Benioff and Dan Weiss had to figure out what to do next. The writer-producers had made the biggest TV hit of the 21st century, and the most Emmy-winning drama of all time - and it was their very first show. HBO’s Thrones had a spectacular eight-season run, a global phenomenon that was reputationally marred by a 2019 final season that fans loudly considered disappointing. In the online space, at least, Benioff and Weiss’ obsessive, day-and-night efforts to pull off a production that was unprecedented in its difficulty were shrugged aside. Many fans felt raw about the end of Game of Thrones."

In this video, I will be talking about Game of Thrones creators and writers, David Benioff and Dan Weiss' new interview, with the Hollywood Reporter. In their new interview, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss finally revealed their biggest regret after creating Game of Thrones. They reveal what they would change or fix in the series. You won't believe what they had to say... Rather than fix Daenerys Targaryen's Mad Queen turn, Arya Stark defeating the Night King so easily, Lord Varys and Tyrion Lannister's stupidity, or any of the number of different issues fans had with the final season, Game of Thrones writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss reveal they would like to change a small scene involving the character Mord. As you all know, Game of Thrones' final season is still one of the most controversial seasons of television ever created. Millions of Game of Thrones fans signed a petition to remake season 8. Honestly cannot believe I expected these two idiots to admit any of their mistakes, they’re just hopeless. My only consolation is knowing that in 20 years we will probably have a remake of Game of Thrones. Hopefully then we will have some of these answers and a proper ending. Too bad we won’t have the same actors playing the characters we love so much.

I can think of over a hundred mistakes they made starting with ignoring Lady Stoneheart at the end of S4, but to me the biggest one is still Arya killing the Night King. That was Jon's moment, his entire storyline, a culmination of hundreds of years of prophecy, this was the Song of Ice and Fire. And it not only affects GoT, it affects House of the Dragon with the prophecy that helped kick off the dance of Dragons ending with a completely unrelated character leaping out of a tree. This might as well be the song of the dagger, no need for a Targaryen, could've just given it to Hot Pie at this point because "everyone expected Jon to be the hero" and nobody would've expected that

I agree that the answer comes off as a bit disrespectful, I don't believe that was an actual answer. It seems like a sarcastic answer to dismiss the topic. If they don't want to talk about it they should really just say "we are proud of our time on GoT and sorry that a portion of the fan base did not like our handling of the story. We did our best, but we are moving forward to other projects." Gets the point across without coming off as elitist or dismissive of the fans.

Doing Mord the Jailor upgrade to tavern keeper is a basic writing device to show progress in the world. They should have applied that to all the actually important plot lines, and nobody would be complaining about them still 3 - 5 years after the show's end.

In s8 they killed Varys for writting letters to the other lords regarding John Snow. When they had the meeting in the dragon Pitt at the end they should have had the lords that was there stand up saying they had received a raven from lord Varys about John. Then that would make Varys death more reasonable. And the vision Varys had in flames would be that he would save the realm but be killed by fire for doing it.

Thank you so much for your unrestrained commentary. I needed to hear it. I wish you could interviewed them (...or rather interrogate them without a lawyer present). I realize its not particularly nice (....and yeah, it's "just" a tv show) but for the love of Pete! How can they be so callous and out of touch? It seems to be a bit of a problem in Hollywood these days if I'm not mistaken. They could have offered a little... healing energy, but no, too much to ask I guess. Incredible....

I still believe that they had staff (writer) issues from season 4 to 6 and again from 7 to season 8! The recipe was off! However Arya killing the Night king and the Queen of Dragons sudden Massacre of Kings landing are 2 of the major Gaffs amongst many! Somewhere D and D had a Lead writer or a group of writers that told them they were a idiots for what they had planned for seasons 6-8! That it didn't make sense and there was no character build up or background to support it! Dan and Dave Fired them!

It would've been far better if they said there were no regrets! I'd have felt less insulted. They would bring back a jailer!! Not explained the rings the NK left bodies in. Or why Dany was selected to kill the NK. Why wasn't the Dothraki calvary totally killed in the night battle at Winterfell with the walkers? There's a list longer than the series that cry out for answers

It reflects very poorly on them that they are unable to recognise, reflect or even accept that they seriously messed up. They could've just handed show running over to another team/person if they had lost the passion for it or more likely just ran out of good ideas. They are just a pair of hacks now who could've been legends.

Man I didn't pick up g.o.t until s5 released so i got to binge 1-5 and nothing compares to it, I remember watching Lords of Castermere and it was 3-4am and it really catches you off guard as i knew nothing about the books but i did get mt v viper spoiled on me but thats what got me to try the series!😂

Your right, it was an insult. I loved season 8 ep 1, 2, & 3. And the show could have ended right there. Everything after that was an insult to the fans. Why did Dany mention she couldn't have any more children 8 thousand times in season 7? Why didn't they include Lady Stoneheart? Why didn’t they do all the items you mentioned. Was I disappointed and kinda pissed Arya killed the Night King and not Jon Snow? YES!!!! Why did Dany go berserk and kill innocent citizens in Kings Landing? It didn't make a storyline sense.

Mord the jailer? That's ALL they have to say? That's ridiculous. First of all, GRRM never brought him back. What happened here is clear to me. Early on, they had GRRM's books to guide their work. They didn't have to WRITE a story - they just had to film one. That went fine. Then they came to the point where they'd finished all the existing book material, and suddenly they were on their own. And they didn't have the FIRST IDEA what to do. I think it's as simple as that, and we see this confirmed in the reviews The Three Body Problem has gotten. These guys just aren't talented writers - that's it in a nutshell.

Maybe they could have fixed Bran's character. You know, the guy who spends 8 seasons getting dragged around the north doing absolutely nothing and then gets elected as the new king because....... 🤷 Maybe explain all of the symbolism from the white walkers built up over the first seasons and then just ignored because I guess they couldn't figure out a way to work it into the ending. Maybe redo the battle of winterfell so that people could actually see what is happening, and possibly come up with a defensive strategy that wasn't thought up by a seven year old.......

It's obvious they do NOT want to talk about the final seasons backlash. The reason GoT was (and is) so great was because it was full of great ideas....but it could've been so much better if they decided to ACTUALLY FINISH THE SHOW PROPERLY. They will NOT remake Game of Thrones any time soon. There's basically no point. if the ENTIRE show was horrendous then yes, I can see that happening but most of the show is really good with the exception of the last couple of seasons. I'd like to see those remade...but not ENTIRE show. Plus I'd rather see new content in the GoT universe for the time being. SO many people still watch the show and REWATCH the show. No need for a remake in my personal opinion.

A remake wouldn't correct the wrong done. Besides, the cast they had was perfect and it's highly unlikely, if not impossible they could ever replace them. Nope, afraid it's too late. Boycott everything D & D does. They don't deserve more chances after what they've done. They're just a couple of narcissists who have shown zero remorse.

Eh, let’s just let it go. I hated the way the show progressed and ended, too. It deserved better for sure. But does this flippant attitude really surprise anyone? They personify their characters’ arcs lacking full development/growth. If they were willing to half-a** the show, as much as we’d like them to, should we expect more from them in an interview, especially one about a different project? As much as some sort of apology/acknowledgment would help us feel better, I think it’s clear now that we shouldn’t expect it at this point. Also, HBO plays a part in this. If DnD only wanted to be involved for 7 seasons, as they supposedly said, HBO could have done more to replace them during the process to try to make sure the show developed and ended properly. I realize that would have been extremely difficult to pull off and probably would have left us with other complaints, but HBO allowed it happen, too. If it gets remade in the future, we can hope for something better! :) And maybe we might get some sort of acknowledgment from them about it many more years down the road after they retire to help us get closure and feel a little better about the love we lost. :)

Martin said the existing books had enough material to,last at least 14 seasons. That hints that he thinks they cut too much from the storyline. Stoneheart and having 3 Targarian kids to inherit

Actually, I did like the ending, but there are 2 things I don't like, it was too rushed, and Bran should have been more explored. So I am hoping I get my answers when he finishes the books. I know I will be waiting for a long time. But the ending of the TV series was ok for me.
