I've put 100 hours into Dragon Quest, Fire Emblem and Pokemon this year so my 2019 been good. Next year has Xenoblade, FF7, Persona 5 R, Seiken Densetsu 3 remake wait all my most anticipated 2020 games are JRPG remakes/ports

I disagree with the main premise: Astral Chain & Fire Emblem 3 Houses are amazing games that get glossed over for simply being Switch games. If out of the gate the only games that can be considered great have to be "big AAA" games then, there's something wrong with that.

2019 was awesome. Wth? Fire emblem. Mario maker. Astral chain. Resident evil 2 remake. Star wars jedi fallen order. Outer worlds. Luigi's mansion. Pokemon sword/shield. Borderlands 3. MK 11. KH3. Death Stranding. Gears 5. Days gone. Katana zero. Link's Awakening remake. This has been one of the best years for me.

Fire Emblem Three Houses is my game of the year

Overall I enjoyed 2019 for games. I finished Kingdom Hearts 3, DMC V, Borderlands 3, Astral Chain, Control, Jedi Fallen Order, Gears 5, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, and The Outer Worlds.

A plague tale: innocence is my favourite this year

I thought 2019 was better than 2018 because I wasn't a fan of the AAA offerrings last year. This year I have Outer Wilds, Sekiro, Death Stranding, Judgment, Iceborne, and Fire Emblem Three Houses. Lot of smaller titles but I'm enjoying way more too.

Yes it was a good year even if it wasn't a GOAT year. Sekiro, Resident Evil 2, Days Gone, Death Stranding, Bloodstained RotN, Gears 5, Borderlands 3, Outer Worlds, Blasphemous, Blazing Chrome, Operencia, Shakedown Hawaii, Devil May Cry 5, Kingdom Hearts III, Control, Man of Medan etc. You just have to actually like games, and not just like reviews.

That silent faulty feelinggggg. That silent fauullllltttt.

Sekiro Dies Twice, Fire Emblem 3H, Dragon Quest 11, Control, Death Stranding, Astral Chain, Borderlands 3, Outerworlds, Fallen Order, RE2, Pokemon. A bunch of games that are smaller but good to great.

I feel this year has been a solid year for quality games a little bit for every type of gamer. Personally Devil May Cry 5 is still my GoTY this year. It’s nice to less triple A games sometime and let the other games shine.

I would argue it was a better year than most just without having one of the massive industry tent poke titles. We got RE2 remake, Days Gone, The Outerworlds, The Outerwilds, DMC5, Apex Legends, and the clear GOTY, Death Stranding. And those are the standouts from just what I played

I don't know where they play but games. But as a Switch/Nintendo fan i had Mario Maker 2, Luigis Mansion, Links Awakening, Pokemon Sword/Shield, Astral Chain, Dragon Quest (i know a re-release) and the best game of the year Fire Emblem.

Days Gone and Far Cry New Dawn would be my games of the year for the games I actually completed. The Outer Worlds was really good but my TV died during my playthrough so I didn't get to finish it. Sadly, I've missed a lot of the games that were mentioned like Control and Resident Evil 2 and a bunch of stuff that wasn't mentioned like A Plague Tale.

I used the custom music tracks on the original Xbox. I loaded multiple CDs onto my hard drive and it worked in the GTA games to play through the car's stereo while in game. It also worked on WWF Raw and you could use your own music as entrance music. I had ACDC playing for my custom character. I wish they would bring back that feature for the next Xbox console. BTW, I still buy and use CDs. :)

For years 2007 has been mine but 2019 might just be on top with RE2 shenmue 3 death stranding fallen order Dmc5!

Astral Chain, Fire Emblem, Luigi’s Mansion and Star Wars were highlights for me. Pokemon has been better than I thought it would be. Doing raids and running around the wild area with my wife has been fun.

Crazy they didn't mention Metro: Exodus at least at the point where I am currently at... I love the Metro series and I felt that Exodus was one of the best releases of the year (and I play a lot of games outside of the Switch, which I regretfully don't own)

2019 definitely feels like a step down from recent years in terms of games at the highest end. But I cannot complain about what I have enjoyed throughout the year: Sekiro, Fire Emblem, Link's Awakening, Outer Worlds, Luigi's Mansion 3, Pokemon Shield, Borderlands 3, Apex Legends. All of those I have pegged as 'very good' or 'great' games. I will also see how well Mario Maker 2 and Jedi: Fallen Order play out come Christmas time. Keen to eventually try Outer Wilds, Afterparty, Disco Elysium and Phoenix Point as well. So, certainly not a bad year, but one that is difficult to pick a stand-out for. I guess my GOTY is between Fire Emblem and Outer Worlds. P.S. Sam, be nice to Mark!

This definitely wasnt the hottest year, but it I wouldn't call it not good by any means. We got RE 2, Anthem (which I really loved actually), Division 2 (also a phenomenally fun game), Apex Legends (one of the best multiplayer fps games in a while), Mario Maker 2, Borderlands 3 (which granted was just alright imo), Modern Warfare (one of the best CoD's in long time and one of the best campaigns I played all year), Jedi Fallen Order, Outer Worlds, Death Stranding, Shadowkeep, etc. I mean that's not even including some of the great indies to come out this year like Ape Out and stuff. I think it was a really solid year, it just isnt as glamorous as last year with Red Dead, God of War, and Spider Man, and it doesn't seem as glamorous as next year with Avengers, TLOU 2, next gen, etc. But I still think it was a really good year, just a more chill one. But I get Daemon's argument, definitely a quieter year, but I don't wanna undercut some of the outstanding games that have released this year, cause there were some gems.

Sekiro and RE2 were enough for me, everything after was a bonus. Control, Bloodstained, Jedi Fallen Order and Link's Awakening were other highlights

2018 was the year of the PS4 and 2019 was the year of the Switch. Mario Maker 2, Pokemon S & S, Astral Chain, Link's Awakening, Fire Emblem...

Thinking Dreams deserved a mention as it might end up being something significant in years to come, although it's an odd one since it had an Early Access release this year, and a full retail release is probably next year. I do miss having albums on my console - I'm not sure if this is true but I heard that modern consoles don't support CDs, which one reason why you can't rip them this gen.

There is a first-person AAA title game out presides Half-Life alyx and it's a 30-hour VR game it's called Asgard Wrath I know this because I have every single hmd VR headset I've watched it grow ,and I also play pancake flat games I enjoy them as well but VR has starting to blow up.

Yep, original Xbox allowed you to rip CDs. I remember listening to Linkin Park's album Meteora (2003) and Evanescence's album Fallen (2003) while playing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the orginal Xbox.

I think this year for me was very safe when it came to games most of them were sequels or remakes.

On the subject of ripping music to your X-Box - On the GTA games (3,Vice City, San Andreas [I think]) you could play all the music on your consoles hard drive rather than listen to the in-game radio stations

I don’t think it was an off year. We had some great games. We have to remember that next year is the ps5 and X2. So this year was the "playing it safe" year. Meaning we aren’t going to see any games like Spider-Man, GoW, HZN, etc. I just think we need to stop comparing it to years where GoW, HZN, and Spider-man came out. Those games were amazing and lived up to the hype. It’s rare we get years like that. I mean we had quite a few games where the games were as good if not better then advertised. That doesn’t happen often in this day and age. Usually we get that one game that was just all out great. Usually we get years like we are in now. We get our CoDs, Maddens, and other annual releases then maybe a spring or fall release that stands out. This years was J:FO. But this year just seemed like we got more broken games then ones that work. Anthem is a perfect example. Then we have the games we thought was going to be great but turned out ok. Borderlands 3 is ok game that everyone was hyped for. BL3 didn’t add anything new and was just more of the same. But we did have games like Astral Chain that are amazing games and flew under the radar of most. It was the same as always this year. We got the unexpected hits like J FO DMC5 The ones people were hyped for and became a huge failure, Anthem is one of those. Then we have sequels/remakes/hd releases that don’t bring anything new but make minor changes and people are happy with that. Of course people are playing more Pokémon then DS. It’s 2 different groups of people. Plus, DS is a new ip that just came out. Pokémon always has something going on. It’s been around for years. This is the 8th mainline Pokémon game vs DS as a new ip. Lol. The difference is Pokémon pulls in everyone. All ages. Where as DS is being played by mostly Kojima fans and PS4 owners who are are adults. I don’t see an 8-10 yr old playing DS. Look at DS sales for a new IP and it out sold HZN, Bloodborne, Judgement, Sekiro in Japan and was second in sales being CoD in UK. The sales are there. So maybe people are playing offline. Because there is no way you can tell me you know how many people are actually playing the game. If you have tools that tells you what I’m playing right now then you are in trouble. DS is to me is more of an indie game. DS didn’t have a big company like Konami behind it. DS was done in what 3 years I think. So that isn’t bad for a new developer. Just like Sam saying about a few games critics loved but the public didn’t bother, the reverse goes for DS. I think people are deciding what games they want based on gameplay and whatnot and less on reviews. Especially now a days when reviews are sometimes all over the place. One review says the gameplay is boring and it’s look is nothing new and then another review will say the exact opposite. So it’s like who do you believe?

I'm facinated that peoples from the us still can't get their head around it.

I have played more new games this year than most years. For me 2019 has been great, with Fire Emblem and Outer worlds (better than every Fallout game ever) being the highlights so far.

I wouldn't call myself a huge boarderlands fan but I was excited for 3, but then I made the mistake of playing 1 and 2 just to get myself caught up. By the time 3 came out i was just burned out on boarderlands. I should have just watched some recap vids on KZfaq.

I enjoyed most games that came out this year. I just don’t think there have been any major standouts besides Death Stranding, and I don’t know if even that managed to stand out in a good way

2019 was good for 8/10 to 9/10 games. The Division 2, Rage 2, Metro Exodus, Days Gone, Control, Borderlands 3, The Outer Worlds, Death Stranding, Jedi Fallen Order, & Ashen (Dec 9) looks solid low-mid 8. There just weren't any RDR2 or God of War like last year & Cyberpunk77 or TLoU2 next year. The Outer Worlds (9.1), Control (9.0), Death Stranding (8.7), and Days Gone (8.4) have been my personal faves so far. Still got to begin Jedi. Cyberpunk77, TLoU2, Ghost of Tsushima, Dying Light 2 are all looking better than this year. And there will likely be more of that caliber.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate deserves Game Of The Year. It miss the mark for last year due to launch date, there has been imo more work put in this game, it gets quarterly updates, DLC, a great fighting story line, great multiplayer and for a weak year this game just deserves it.

Been wondering why the Oculus Quest isn't talked about as a console and isn't discussed at all, stand-alone hardware, no PC needed, it's own interface and shop, surely this is a counted as a console. I've enjoyed playing on my PS4 and Switch this year but by far most of my favourite experiences this year have been played on my Oculus Quest.

Metro Exodus was amazing

2019 was the year of "comfort food" games. Nothing so unique or groundbreaking that it broke conventional barriers, but a ton of fantastic experiences that iterated on and added to their respective genres. (Inb4 someone says Death Stranding was a groundbreaking masterpiece and is the 2nd coming of Jesus)

They’re absolutely right that it hasn’t been a great gaming year, despite being a Nintendo fan. Nintendo did extremely well this year but as an industry, it’s not great. Lots of flops, and everything seems to be pushed to 2020. E3 seemed like a good representation of this year in gaming.
