Very interesting. I have studied the art of watering the yard back as a teenager in Florida where the process is kind of different, but the concept stay the same as you stated. Watering early in the morning is best, and I could not do that back in the day with the limited automatic equipment we had available back then in the 60's and 70's. I got home from school and one of the first things I did after my snack was to turn the sprinklers on and leave them on for several hours to make sure we got good coverage and a heavy watering. When the winds changed no watering as that meant a storm. The April showers were pretty regular there, but I still watered as the heavy rain fall for 5-10 mins was just not enough. Depth was the goal. Now I am in Washington state with a different grass and a completely different base underneath which is rock and lava from many years ago. So the grass has a shallow structure to work with and so I water on automatic for two hours, every other day. I have not taken a measurement yet, that it is yet to come. Everytime I mow I add ironite, weed and feed, and grass seed. It stays pretty solid green, but every so often the animals leave their mark and I have to focus on those areas too. THe summer time is our dry months which does not help. So many people here do not maintain their yard like what I was used to in FL. Thank you for your video and it inspires me to keep making my sprinkler videos as I am doing.

I'm a budding "gardener" due to getting my first patch of yard! And I am in the process of learning how to grow grass in the most difficult of terrains! Tucson low desert! I am researching sprinklers and this video is super helpful in that process. What region do you live in?

Ironically I find this today, as I replaced that type of Gilmour sprinkler this afternoon, since the blue piece that rides the red "height adjustment" track broke on my last one.

I heard water twice a week 1/2" per session to encourage longer roots, watering daily encourages shorter roots. I hear good things about stress blend fert. 7-0-20 greens up the lawn, I bought it but waiting for late fall, im in the south tho. I think watering daily is a bad idea. I heard lol Makes sence to me

question I have... If I got say 1/2 inch on a Monday, planned on waiting until Thursday to put another half inch down with my sprinkler, but overnight Wednesday it rained maybe 1/8, or 1/4 inch... could I push back my Thursday watering to say Saturday?? since I got a little natural watering in between?
