Used motor oil has its place on fences and posts but I can't say it had much eye appeal on the bench. A nice maple stain might have looked better with the white cast iron.

Nice work mate. Please consider a dust mask though, especially if you're working with treated timbers like deck boards. Oh, and only burn them outside; they're full of nasties. I'm loving the engine oil idea though; I've got a lot of that in the garage looking for a use and now I have it! Big thumbs up. :)
@SHARPEYSWORKSHOP
@SHARPEYSWORKSHOP 6 жыл бұрын
I know I should use a dust mask I always use one when working with mdf but often forget with everything else as for the engine oil try it on the wood first some woods I've found don't soak it in so well other than that it works great on outside projects good luck buddy

Thank you for this video. I have a single seater cast iron outdoor chair I am going to do up. I liked the idea of using the (used?) engine oil and I presume it doesn't mark clothing when it has dried. I don't have the tools or workshop you have but your video has been an inspiration.

@@SHARPEYSWORKSHOP Great video and idea on use the "used engine oil". To make it last longer, what do you think about using wood sealer like Polyurethane after "used engine oil" dries? Have you tried that or does the "used engine oil" will have some kind of chemical reaction to the sealer and would not work. Thank you.

Hi Catherine I must admit it's not the easiest thing to do I cut all my slats to the right length then bolted the top back one on then put the steel rod across the underneath then bolted just one length on the bottom and it sort of pulled it all together but don't worry to much about the measurements I've done a few of these and the measurements are abit of sorry can't help much more apart from your not alone it is tricky cheers paul
