Hi Matt, thanks for the video. I purchased my 945 from an online shop almost 3 months ago as an ex-user of 920xt. I am a competitive cyclist and amateur triathlete. Generally, I really feel comfortable when I'm using this watch, its light, not seem so hulk on my wrist. Also found handy the feature about showing your training status, history. And tested it when I was on trail course for running in the forest, GPS has never fault me. As a habit, I prefer to use my HR band rather than using its own wrist HR but sometimes, when I want to measure my sleep stages and pulse, I prefer to switch it on. And the biggest feature for me surely is inner mp3 player supported Spotify, I just love it! I just grab my Bluetooth headphones and watch and go for a run, that's all. Besides all, those are just my own thoughts and priority to buy such a watch. Generally, I am pretty glad using it. Keep the good work!

Thanks for taking the time to watch the video and taking the extra time to comment. 👍 It’s interesting that you use the music feature on the watch. I think it’s great but don’t tend to use it all that often. Maybe I need to get in the habit of turning it on. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was the same case (ex-user of 920XT) but unfortunatelly, I am returing the 945 as the AN/BT sensors stopped working out of nothing. Tried everything suggested on the forum (even updated to firmware 4.41) but nothing fixed. Garmin Support suggested that I should return and the BT/ANT driver would always show as version 0.00. I found so many people reporting issues with the poor quality on this 4.40 firmware that is frustating to see Garmin losing its known quality. forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-945

Great review, Matt! I just picked up a Fenix 5 for $400CAD (~$300USD) for that extra battery life I'll need for a full IRONMAN. It's definitely a lot heavier than the 735xt I was using before but the 935 is still selling for $680CAD here, couldn't justify $280 extra for 40grams less!

Awesome review! I have had the 935 for 2 years now and it has mostly been phenomenal for me. It covered all of my running and triathlon needs. The only problem I have experienced with it was the battery life wasn't lasting on long races. I competed in Ironman Texas in 2019 and the watch was dead after the swim and 100 miles on the bike. Pretty annoying when you still have a whole marathon ahead of you. Good news is that my new Fenix 6 pro arrives in a few days!

Thanks for the review. For me, the 945 seems to be worth the extra $. I love having onboard music and garmin pay. With new features like ClimbPro and Pulse OX, I think the value proposition is high. 935 seems to be about $350 and 945 low 500s. I’m coming from the Vivoactive Music, but also run ultras, so really need that battery life.
@mlegrand
@mlegrand 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Benjamin! I will say the battery life might be better on the 935 but it’s nice to have the extra features on the 945. I also think they might have better water proofing on this watch which isn’t advertised or anything. It’s just a sneaking suspicion. 🤔 Thanks for checking out the video and taking the time to post this thoughtful comment. Keep me posted on how those ultras are going. 👏

I switched from an Apple Watch to the 945 and life has been so much better ever since as a triathlete. 🤣 I never got into all the details of what it can do. I just basically use it for the swim, bike and run features. However, I didn’t know it has a detachable feature so I can use it on my bike. I’m totally going to do this since my Wahoo Bolt has a giant ink splotch that takes up almost half the screen, making it impossible to read whatever data is there. I have been too cheap to buy a new one. Thanks!!!

@mlegrand
@mlegrand 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for subscribing Sorin! The 945 doesn’t do as much sleep monitoring as other watches. The Garmin Fenix 6 has a beta HRV function that I hope will make it’s way down to the 945 in an update. But the 945 does track deep/light sleep, sleep stages and over all hours. If you send me a private message on Instagram I’ll reply with some charting data of my own sleep and pulse ox details. Thanks again Sorin!

Connor, that's super nice of you to say. Thank you for your Review. It's been a while since I was looking for some info that shows further than what's in the manual or spec list. One thing that I've noticed on my one, was that when I'm listening music at the same time that I'm start a workout (that was uploaded to the watch so it could alert me about the sessions) the watch went slowing the music playing (and sometimes cutting it). So maybe it can't handled processing a workout and play music. Please see if you noticed something like this. I wouldn't be glad to hear from you. Thanks again.
@mlegrand

That’s a great observation. I’ll have to test it. I think this processor is used in a lot of watches so I wonder if other watches would have the same issues. (Fenix 6 for example) 👍

Thanks for the video. I have had the 910 for years and it has been great and continues to work well, but it is hard not to get caught up in all of the features, metrics, VO2, etc that now comes with something like the 945. I currently take an ipod touch with me to do my amazon music and it seems it would be nice to not have to take the extra device. Are the fancy features worth the price, or should I just continue with the 910?
@mlegrand
@mlegrand 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, sorry about the late reply. I typically tell people that the 935 is all that they need but if you're carrying an iPod touch with you than it might be worth it to have a watch that connects to bluetooth headphones. If you just run, you might also look at the Vivo Active 3 Music or Vivo Active 4. Hope this helps if you're still considering watches. If you have any more questions let me know and if you already made a purchase let me know what it was and how it's going! 👍

Matt LeGrand I find it performs better if it’s recently been fully drained, so the week before an event I tend to let it completely die. Garmin do offer discounted refurbished units if the performance does get very bad, a friend of mine paid £50 for a replacement, not bad when it’s in exchange for a unit which is a few years old and the refurbed watch is essentially brand new

Yeah, lots of issues with the 945. The software on the watch doesn’t seem as stable as the 935. Which I guess makes since because of the new processor and all of the new features. It has been a major issue for me yet. I haven’t noticed GPS being too bad but I’ve read that it doesn’t track as accurately. Hi, I can't find the answer of this question anywhere could you please help me? Are the training status, the load the Vo2max ecc... of a garmin clock (fenix or forerunner) syncing whit the status, load or Vo2max of a garmin edge (530, 830...)? And i mean not only on the garmin connect app but also on the device itself. Because I both run and cycle, now I have a forerunner 945 and I want to know if it's worth to buy a garmin edge for cycling. Thanks for helping

I had some battery issues with my fenix5s after a swim where I pressed the lap button so cracked it open the case to dry it out. The waterproofing is a bit limited. Just some layered material that the button moves though. Pressing it while in the water is not recommended. It is not a dive watch.

Hi Theresa! I would take a look at the garmin 235, the 245 and the Garmin vivo active. All of them will work well for general distance workouts. These watches aren’t the best for doing track workouts so maybe don’t throw away your current watch. Congrats on running in college. I absolutely loved D1 XC and track. Garmin Pay is really a neat feature. I'm using it on a daily basis and it's really convenient when you don't have your wallet on you. Paying with is very fast and straight forward. Just go into the widget, select the Garmin Pay icon and put your wrist next to the payment terminal. That's it. Thank you for producing and uploading your detailed review. I am a big fan of the FR920XT and continue to use this watch with enthusiasm. Square face, solid charging mechanism, large buttons and sturdy metal back without that fragile plastic sensor. Given that a HRM strap is still more accurate and blood oxygen content is next to useless (what would you change if you detected a pulse oximetry variation?), wrist based pulse reading is still not for me. I also carry money with me on longer trips and don't plug up my ears during my exercise sessions. Your feedback request: Whilst I like the general production, I would have preferred no background music and no jump cuts. I am also intrigued why it has now become so common to use the 'kind of' words ('kind of save money', 'kind of go for a longer run', etc) in the English vocabulary. Thumb up from me.
@mlegrand
@mlegrand 4 жыл бұрын
8strings - Great recommendation. I’ll try to correct some of these distractions. I’m guessing I use ‘kind of’ as a bit of a crutch when I’m nervous talking to the camera. Seems like the 920 is an excellent option. I would stick with it as long as possible. Key things are recording the triathlon race and having battery life to go full Ironman distance. And the 920 does that well. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! 👍

I loved the 935 and would suggest sticking with it for a while if it's still working well for you. There have been rumors of the 955 (spring maybe?) I've been loving the 945. I can't wait to see what Garmin does with the 955 some day. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
