Screw the naysayers, this is looking like an excellent and thorough restoration. I think your approach is perfectly logical given the damage you are dealing with on this particular car.

It's an art form doing what you're doing here. Lots of rare cars went to scrap because people back years ago didn't have the tools and parts to even try to do this. Good job.

Note of advice. Make sure the lower cowl where the fender bolts on to the firewall jig pin hole is 18 7/8". If it's not your fenders will be off alignment. If you don't know what I'm talking about go to Jubee Mays videos and he has a video specifically on this measurement. Good luck. I'm following your rebuild

A few years ago I had a very rusty ‘68 convertible rescued. TEST FIT EVERYTHING! The only mistake we made was not test fitting the windshield and door glass. Didn’t discover my windshield frame was bent until it was painted and the door glass would not fit to the windshield frame. At that point we realized why the guy had so much trouble fitting the convertible top (out of square body at the top).

Hi John, thank you for your input. I think I will have the front and rear glass installed be before the final spot welding is started if possible. Good point, thank you

Looking good! The jig is first and foremost, and once you have that built, you should be able to set the floor on it, which is essentially a one piece unit right? Then set the body on top of it and start tacking it back together. I would not worry about groping the doors right now, because that is going to change, possibly dramatically. I would have for these guys to be charging you T&M for that type of work, as that is double labor. As I stated before, I think they should have pulled the car to square first with the A and B pillars still attached and then begin the panel replacement. But then again, is just one way of doing it. Good luck with the build, so glad you are saving this gem. Looking forward to more content.

I have been rebuilding a 69 from essentially the outer skeleton because it was so rotten. I have it reconstructed to a roller now, but it's far from done. People told me that it wasn't save able, but I am proving them wrong, and have been posting the videos to prove it! Lol

When replacing qtrs there are two small support peices that need to be attached to the qtr. I hope you installed them or the quarter will flex and split at qtr window area.

'Cobbling' it together (for want of a better term) is probably not 'book perfect' if one wants to be 'technically perfect'- but - as mentioned - with so much damage there is not much else you can do and in practical terms in the 'real world' - I think the 'vice-grips' method will achieve the desired outcome (and of course there will always be people with different ideas//approaches - but - such is life). The jig is a good way to go. It amazes me when I see people out on the Internet building shells from new panels and they never use a jig. They may be lucky - but then again - they may not. I have personally seen more than one of these 'hand assembled' shells that had measurable discrepancies between the wheelbase from each side and also other issues due to not being assembled on even the most basic of jigs. Even though said body shells have had the panel gaps nicely 'fettled' and the shining new coat of paint makes things look 'new again' - those discrepancies deep down within the chassis specifications will rear their ugly head one day when weird things re the handling or tyre wear etc occur. The body jig is the most sensible approach and doing that prior to the 'cobbling' together would have been nigh on impossible. Not everything is rebuildable - but this 69 certainly is and great to watch. Have a safe and nice day all. CHEERS from AUSTRALIA.

I would put the jig back on the Blue car and remove the doors, I'd then add extra bars to line up through the bolt holes where the door hinges go, cross braced. The absolute must is the way it sits on the floor, it has to be totally level and I think you'll get that with a laser level. Thanks for the mention!

A HUGE change from your last video ! So glad your using a jig . I was definitely under the mistaken impression that those rear quarters were being trial fitted for welding . I'm very impressed with the parts availability for Camaro's and Firebirds . Without being too nosey what is cost so far for the panels ? Thanks for sharing .

You need that frame jig so you can line up the guide holes on the floor and sub frame. Im doing a 68 camaro pretty much same job and with the frame jig I was able to weld the floor completely together with firewall and lower the frame of the body down on top of the floor. I did have to strap the floor to the jig to keep it straight because the body shell was twisted. But once I got the floor welded in everything else went really fast. I would not attempt it without the jig though you got to be able to straighten that shell before you weld those panels on. I have pics of my project if you have email I will send them.

I'm surprised you didn't straighten the car out 1st then weld in braces front to back and side to side, then start cutting floor and qtrs the first pieces to replace would have been the rocker panels, then the floors then the qtrs, not knocking you just saying

Kind of hard to attach panels to a twisted body so everything twisted needs to go or be repaired before anything else gets welded on so there is nothing wrong with your approach at this point. If you watch videos on Petersons Restorations he does the exact thing all the time with Mustangs. The thing with him is he does complete boy rebuilds so often that he has it down pat and makes it look so simple. IYou will like how he has a level steel plate floor to do all is jig work on so he knows exactly what is straight and has all the body measurements to go off of. You should watch a few of his videos and you will see it is quite interesting. Here is his channel kzfaq.info/love/G-IsvXgmiBXavN03_C-PNAvideos

Sorry, my channel is about quality work done right. This isn't like hack shows on TV where they will restore a car over a weekend or a week in order to keep the viewers attention. I will not let the car or bike restoration suffer so I can satisfy some viewers attention span.
