This is a bit of a trope in Arthurian myth; lots of freewheeling/disguised knights talking smack and 'testing each others virtue'

This honestly sound pretty close to what knights did in their spare time anyways. They weren't exactly stick-in-the-mud puritans we think of today.

Sounds to me like the Gawain-poet did not know how to make overland-travel interesting. "You're going where?!!" "No, it's fine. totally prepared for that, let me just roll... Aaaand you get attacked by two giant Snakes, a direboar, three bandits and a hillgiant - well of course it makes sense in the lore..."

I don't see why he didn't tell "The Lady" about the deal on the first night, say he was going to ask Bertilak because communication is key, then just ask Bertilak on night 1 if he could get down with his wife. He would have been able to sleep with "The Lady" during the day, and The Lord at night. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me! I mean, come on Gawain, the dude was clearly into you and just constructing elaborate rituals so he could kiss you. To paraphrase Elanor Shellstrop: ‘Why not? More guys should be bi, it’s [2020], it’s like “get over yourselves”.’

There is a 1969 film titled "Sword of the Valiant," which VERY loosely adapts this story. Its not a good movie, but it stars Sean Connery as the Green Knight, wearing an outfit with a circle cut out of it to reveal his chest hair. And frankly thats almost worth the price of admission. I love how Morgana’s original plan was “well, I would like to spook Guinevere. Maybe she’ll die if she gets too freaked out by my Green Knight and his missing his head act!” And that maybe Arthur breaking the ice after he leaves with some laugher may have saved her?

when I first heard the story, I thought it was just Gawain's family getting tired of him being a bachelor and decided to elaborately hook him up with their friends in the countryside who are a swinger couple and saw Gawain at a bar once and really liked the energy he was giving off. but the actual story and the film's portrayal of it is also good lol

Nice! The other day I thought to myself it would be cool to have a Green Knight character in my StarWars campaign, and voila, here's the "sign" to do so..... I didn't realize it was a New Year tale or a holiday tale at all. Been sometime since I've read,heard, or watched it. My subconscious must have remembered it was associated with New Years, and hence why the thought came to me.

Awesome rendition! I read this way back in the late 70s and this brought me back, to a class called Arthurian Legends which I took at Wellesley while a student at MIT. A+ for your modern interpretation!

It's pretty nerve wracking, isn't it. We brought the grandparents up over New Year to be safe, and Nanna's coming up from North Nowra, Grandma from West Nowra today and over the weekend. Just sad thinking of my hometown burning. :(

Great vid. I remember learning about this tale in 1987 in my Literature class from a Cambridge grad teacher. What a story. Always reminds me to be as honest, kind, noble and truthful as you can. I'm glad Sir Galahad eventually proved equal to the knightly requirements. Gawain did as best he could.
