Who told you the Allman Brothers weren't brothers? They absolutely were brothers. Dwayne died in a motorcycle accident. He was lead guitar his brother Greg was keyboard and vocals. They founded the band together. After Dwayne died they kept playing, recording and touring as the Allman Brothers Band. They were Southern Rock and blues. Doobies were also Southern Rock.

The genre is California San Jose 1970s band music. Very hybrid sound. The music from the Seventies was more upbeat in tone/lyrics. It was celebratory. It showcased the fun things in life: Hanging out with your friends, driving around in your car with your girlfriend, partying, just enjoying life in general. Today's music is dour by comparison. Music reflects what is going on in a society.

You mentioned having that flair.. well I was a 60's baby and my mother sewed all of our clothes. She made curtains for my bedroom the sixties and seventies colors lime green yellow and pink flowers .. she had enough material left to make me a halter top and bell bottom pants. I was fly .. and only 6 years old !! My parents were into George Jones and Dolly but my cousins were into Joplin and Dr. Hook .. and Queen. I had the best childhood !

The Doobie Brothers were playing much of the time and my son was calm and slept very well during that road trip.

"Pop" wasn't really a genre back in the day. If music sold a lot of records (meaning it was popular) it was called Pop, but it could be country, rock and roll, soul, R&B, easy listening - whatever. And it would all be played on "Pop" radio stations.

A favorite since my years as a teen in the 70's. I took a couple of my sons to see them in the 90's when they were teens. They seemed to be enjoying the show and then they disappeared. They showed up after the show all excited about how great the show was and said they had gone to the front row to watch them better. They have been fans ever since even though their choice of favorite music is very different. I just saw they have a show here in September. I have to get tickets!

@Patrick O'Rourke I'm not sure that I'd agree that there's more 'purposeful and personal communication' today vs. back in the 70's or 80's. There's different communication, yes, and a lot more of what I'd call 'useless' data to process. But back in the 70's and 80's (I was only a kid in the 70's, a teen in the 80's), the communication was much more personal, I feel. I feel like the advent of email and texting has made communication much more impersonal... much, much more so. I do agree with you about Cable TV being the beginning, though. There once was a day where nearly the entire nation (for those in the U.S.), watched a single T.V. episode at the same time on the same day. I'm referring to the final episode of M*A*S*H where more than 100 Million people watched it. Or there was 'Who Shot J.R.?!', that the entire nation was obsessed with. You mention sitting and listening to albums for hours... I do miss those times. Going to the record store, thumbing through the rows and rows of albums, before or after having gone to the movies. Then coming home and listening to our latest purchase. I remember my brothers, friends and I playing Free Bird, over and over... air guitars and air drums being played furiously lol.

Imagine turning on the radio in the 1970s and having all this wonderful music coming across the speakers. I lived in a valley where only WABC AM came in strong back then and all this greatness was the soundtrack to our lives. Unfortunately, music became less complex over the decades. Disco was probably the first to dumb everything down, reducing everything to a simple 4/4 beat, and lyrics to "Boogie", Woogie", etc. They did have full orchestras playing and that was nice but then came the 1980s and a lot of drum machined synthesized top forty hits interspersed with hair metal and hard rock. After that, the decades all blur together thanks to the way-overused Auto Tune. But I can hear the Doobies, Chicago, Boston, Jim Croce, America, etc. today and instantly be transported mentally and emotionally to my preteen to 20 year old self. It's so refreshing seeing your enjoyment listening to this era of music. The Doobie Brothers were big and had many top forty hits.

As if these two men who formed a band just happened to meet, form a band, resemble each other & then coincidently have the same last name as if it were a common last name like Smith or Johnson. lol. That would be a stretch! RIP Duane & Gregg. Gone but not forgotten!

"We have a lot more in common than we think we have in common," with music! Agree Amber! More authentic then, as you mentioned, not staged with makeup, hair and wardrobe people telling the musicians how to look. Also that the 1960s and 1970s music brought people together because they were singing about Love, Coming Together, Dancing, singing, Enjoying Each Other and Life. Another thing that really helped us feel closer in the 1960s and '70s is that we had the radio stations that we all listened to, no CDS, sirius, internet, etc. In those days, you could call in to the live disc jockey (dj) and request a song. What a wonderful time to be a teenager and early 20s!
