I did look on PetFinder and Craigslist to see if there were any locally for adoption, but did not find any. I also searched multiple local pet stores with no luck, so I did end up going to PetSmart to get them.

I usually don't post at this time, but I'm up late because I just got home from the emergency vet with Steve. He is okay, just had a little accident. The phone quality actually isn't even that bad!! I love their cage and I think gerbils are so interesting because they love burrowing so you can like see them make burrows aha!

I know lots of people say bad things about buying them from Petsmart and Petco ( which I get), BUT those poor critters need homes too and it isn't their fault. Most of the animals from there are just going to be impulse buys for children with ignorant parents who will more than likely neglect them and put them in tiny cages. So while I get that it's an issue I think it's good to see those poor critters go to a good home.

It's sadly not good people that often buy them, usually just people who think they're cute and buy them with no research about them. And also, the less we buy pet shop animals the less they breed them, which means less animals in improper care! You are right though, and sometimes people have no choice. There aren't any rodent breeders or shelters with them where I live so I'm kind of forced to get them from pet shops.

Lauren Kelly that's the problem I have. There are no breeders or shelters that have small animals around where I am. So I have to buy from Petsmart and Pet Supemarket. But the ones I've had have been happy with no health problems fortunately.

I live in Ireland so they don't have Petsmart or Petco or any of them, there's only once local pet shop. They're not completely useless about animal care, but also not very good. I've also had all my hamsters happy and healthy and all have lived to at least 2.5 years old (My last one lived over 3 years!) I have only ever seen 2 animals there with bad health (one was a dead canary, the other was a little dwarf hamster with blood (likely from fighting)) Although the dwarf turned out fine. I would be much happier of there were proper breeders or rescues around, though.

My hamster died in my hands last night at 12:30 it killed me but now I have time for new adventures such as getting gerbils and I’m doing loads of research so I can get the right care

TBH, idk why people get all upset at pet youtubers for getting their animals at PETSMART or Petco. No one should really care where they get their animals from.. I just find that stupid. I get all my animals from PETSMART or Petco, literally because I have no "local" pet stores near me. And that's just the most convenient. She looked EVERYWHERE near her and she couldn't find any, so Terra (I hope I spelled ur name right, lol) you did what you could, and that's all that matters. Your gerbils are so lucky to have you as their owner and live in a nice, big home!! ❤️

Steven Fay well u see about pet smart u don't want to go in the back of the store.... I swear u will see sick dying animals everywhere they don't care to take them to the vet or anything plus they let the cats free range so they go kill and eat hamsters,gerbils,rabbits,ferrets,etc, so until they start to take better care of there animals people don't recommend to buy any...

The reason that most pet you tubers don’t want to get animals from Petsmart and Petco is because the majority or their small pets come from mills, which are really terrible and when you buy from pet stores your money will go to the breeder, which is essentially supporting the mills. It’s always better to think adoption first and use pet stores as a last resort. 😊. Of course as long as you give your pet a good home it doesn’t really matter where you get them from. 🙃

Oh my goodness poor terra!!!!! I felt so bad when there was a spot for gerbils and nothing was in there LOL 😂 it was really nice to see them explore for a bit right when you put them in their new home hahah !! Again congrats on bringing them home they are so precious!!:) I would give u name suggestions but I'm not good at names either hahah !! Can't wait to see more of them!

I understand your pain! We checked EVERYWHERE to find my gerbils, after being directed from store to store, I finally called a place 20 minutes before it closed to find that they had a pair of gerbils, brothers. Only one pair! I agree that its super hard to find a good pair. In the end I am a proud owner of 2 baby gerbils named Jaq and Gus!

I ran into the same problem with those clips and my tank. I have the exact same tank and lid as you so use velcro strips! Super secure and easy to take on and off

I love your videos! I have been told not to use aspen for bedding. I use shredded newsprint paper that has no print on it. I do love your willow sticks and bendy ramps and how you create a deeper bedding area.

I think Lyra and Fay for your new babies, Lyra for the black one and Fay for the gray one💜 Lyra is one of the smallest constellations but contains one of the brightest stars and Fay is another word for Fairy💟

How exciting! I miss my pair of gerbils, they passed away in 2014 but I still think of them & their funny antics😅 My Mum even liked watching them & she isn't a fan of rodents (I think their furry tails helped to endear them to her honestly.) I look forward to your videos on your little girls! Good luck with names, it is so difficult to come up with good ones I know!

I think you did a good job getting these two gerbils at pet smart. As I always say, I don't see NOTHING wrong with buying your pets from pet smart or petco, etc. All these animals regardless where they come from (adoption or pet store) need a LOVING HOME. The goal is to give all pets the best life we can. So everybody don't let anyone make you feel bad about buying from a pet store. Either way you must check out the animal for any obvious signs of deformity or illness and make your choice. A lot of times problems may come out after you have had the pet for a while. GOOD LUCK Pickles your doing a good job and I LOVE your cage set up for the gerbils.🐾😁🤗

wow ur gerbils are so lucky and so cute and in the future when their tamer I would recommend adding more bedding to their digging are as it isn't deep enough but is OK for taming

It's a great set up with all the enrichment (I wish everyone gave gerbils that much to do!) but they could do with maybe having a bit more space as they get older. Gerbils are incredibly active and don't always use wheels. The Ikea Detolf is a great option and so is the Living World medium or large sized tanks 🙂. Or maybe there are some cheap used tanks on selling sites? X

love it !! smart just getting two . I had three in a 40 and it just wasn't big enough. I had to upgrade. but they declanned and fought so I had to split them. more then 2 can get risky with fights and they're very scary . mine turned on each other out of nowhere. I cried for days. but very cute and fun !!!

Omg I'm in Utah and it was the opposite for me. I went to a few Petco's and Petsmart's and none had Gerbils. So I went to a local pet shop and they had them but for 30 bucks each.

I had 2 gerbils that looked exactly the same. The beige/grey one was called Samson and the grey/white one was called Balu. They were amazing!

Can you give details about the tank? Does it come with that mesh lid or is it made to order or smtg? Because when l see fish tanks l dont see lids with it...thanks

The 40 gallon tank and screen lid both came from Petco, but they were purchased separately. The lid was in the reptile section.

i work at a pet store, and we only have two gerbils left. gerbils come from argentina and they are no longer being shipped over from there since the boarder is now closed off.
