@madseasonshow An entire generation of people have no idea that video games ended around 2007 when the corporations took over gaming. these people are clueless the golden age is done and that they're playing glorified mobile games which are only fun because they're addicting - like gambling. They just don't know that a time existed before loot boxes and gambling mechanics and daily quests and unfinished games. It's impossible to convince them that skins in video games ruin the game.. so don't worry about the corporate shills. let them play their Diablo 4 FILTH, let them drown their time in Candy Crush Blizzard aka Retail Wow. When we end this corporate regime and starting making actual games again they'll come and apologize to you. There will be an 'oh shit' moment for them when their brain enjoys natural happiness instead of manufactured brain happy chemicals from corporate colors on a screen - aka Diablo 3, Diablo 4, Diablo Immortal, Retail WoW, Stracraft 2. There's an army of people that experienced the same phenomenon as you did when blizzard was good. WoW vanilla / classic is much better knowing you exist out there and saw the same thing we did. we know what glory is and we will never be happy until we return to that video game golden age. These people that give you hate do it only because they weren't there and saw what we saw in vanilla and diablo 2. If you charged first against the armies of Mordor, I'd follow right behind you. You are a legend. Fuck the haters.

Your analysis was likely too generous in response to the "From Your Average Reddit" post. It did serve as a useful prompt to create some very nuanced and complex discussions which is not normally found on Reddit...ironic. Most people will not consider a creators intent behind making critique videos perhaps because they themselves cannot comprehend criticism and critique coming from a place of wanting it to be better because you love it.

i’ll probably never give up on wow I have played around 19 years now. What I did give up on many years ago was progression. I played the game for fun at my own pace. I still login a decent amount of hours per week around 20 or so give or take a few. it’s one of my hobbies at this point something that at the end of the day when nothing else is going on I can jump on to mess around for a little bit. It’s something that if I go into work late, I can tool around on the computer for a while , maybe pick up a new transmog Or tanker around with whatever event might be up. Playing like this, I never get burnt out it’s always giving me some measure of enjoyment.

I played the rts games never got to finish them as they didn't belong to me but I loved the lore. once the MMO came out and started changing things I stopped caring as much but I did keep up with it and did buy some of the books and the magz and I did want to play it but didn't have Internet fast enough till 2019 bfa I had fun with other players and the combat but ultimately I didn't have fun overall as I didnt enjoy the story nor the lore. Mr retcon Chris metzen ruined this game with all his retcons and bad additions, he created a trend that every writer after him abused

Hi Madseason, thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings. As a longtime viewer, it surprised me to hear about the negativity that came your way, even if it's less than 1% of your viewer base, because you always come off as an even headed and fair guy. I guess that's just the nature of having millions of people see your stuff, you're definitely going to come across some crazy. I'm sure I'm not saying anything you don't know, you said the same in your video, I guess I'm just trying to show support, man. You're one of the few KZfaqrs whose new videos actually gets me excited. It's not just "oh, new vid," when your content pops up in my subscriptions, its "oh shit, new Madseason vid, gotta set some time aside take his editing in." And man, I don't even play WoW, I just like the way you talk/ present it. Anyway, I'm rambling here. Tl:Dr, you're right to feel the way you do, I just want to show support by saying that on the other end of the negative spectrum are people like me who watch you despite not playing WoW.

As someone who's watched both you and Raxx for many years, I firmly believe both of you genuinely care about the games you play. Raxx really got me back into Diablo 3 after its less than stellar beginnings. He became popular enough for the devs of that game to actually listen to his and others input about it and it actually made it a really awesome game (unfortunately far too late in its lifespan.)

I've valued your take on WoW. I also started playing Classic WoW based on your love of the original game. Which I also played in 2006, but never reached endgame, so I played it because you emphasised the importance of the journey, and that is the best part the game for me. The leveling experince and the exploration of world was my draw card and you made that important again. I've watched a lot WoW channels and yours is the only one I continue to back too and watch old content, because the memories and nostalgia you provide is important in my life. I love your channel.

It's YOUR channel, make what you want, and just have fun. I have been playing wow off-and-on for a few years. I made a rant vid about the state of DF, purely out of passion for the game. and I felt like it was a worthwhile topic nobody was discussing. I had a few people agree, but there was a handful of comments; colorfully describing how wrong i am (im saying this lightly). However the greatest comment i got was just someone telling me, "if i dont like it, go play another game!" I know it was meant to be a gatekeepy jab, but honestly that was when i took a step back, realizing, yes...i...can... and not only that, i WILL go play something else, some people are in too deep, and the actiblizz patheon is all they have, spread your wings, and just make stuff YOU like. Been a long-time fan, and your monotone delivery, and deadpan humor are iconic, if d4/wow get better in the future, make stuff about it if you want, but do it for YOU. I know i cant wait to see what comes next!

Never forget one thing: There are people out there that are so twisted, dark, and deranged, that it would be the most abominable insult to get any kind of "positive" feedback from such life-forms. They are thankfully few as are the negative comments that go with them, but you need to see it as a statistical necessity rather than anything to be bothered by. If you organize it that way, you have 100% positive feedback in the bottom line. :)

I mean, you are the guy who passionately made wow videos, stood as a shining beacon of positivity in perhaps the worst era of the game in BFA, but then as soon as classic launched you did a 180 and became quite insufferably anti-retail. You're within your rights to do that of course, if you don't like a game you shouldn't be supporting it, but it was quite clear that you were revelling in the opportunity to profit from wow but also hate on it as well. It was calculated, sudden, and contrasting your earlier videos to your mid-life videos, I think some criticism towards you was earned.

It's hard to overstate how important your videos about the level boosts were to me. I was so heartbroken about Blizzard's decision, but much more so by the community's seemingly-majority approval. Where did the amazing community of 2019 go? You voiced my exact feelings in a much more articulated way than I ever could. And for us old school boomers that love the game for the gameplay, it really saddened my heart to watch Blizz head in that direction, but your videos gave me some solace, feeling less alone. As for haters, I think it's pretty much inevitable. One could even say that if you don't have any haters at all, you're probably too bland. I have no desire to be a "content creator", yet even my latest video on my 1-60 Nudist hardcore achievement run (Xaryuenjoyer 3) on my microscopic channel got some random hate comment. So I guess it's all par for the course, sadly. Oh, and you have a tiny cameo in it, a very small tribute :) Thanks for all your content, you are the voice of more people than you think!

I was there on the first day back in 2019. IMO, what happened was the idea people had in their heads about the game met the reality that most of us are in our 30s and 40s now, and many of us have spouses and/or children who need attention. Not to mention jobs, friends, etc. After going through the grind once or twice, people were ready to skip it. We probably would have gotten to that point sooner if Covid hadn't kept people home for a year. That said, I do wish that Blizzard hadn't catered to those people. But at least they kept the Classic servers more or less the same. I guess that's the best we could ask for.

Diablo 4 was loved at launch because the campaign was awesome. The story, characters, and world were great. There were plenty of side quests and the size of the map was so large that it took a lot of time to get through everything. The backlash came when the story was over and there was very little there.
@jippy8976
@jippy8976 4 ай бұрын
I’d argue that the backlash came earlier than that, as the dev team admitted things like they didn’t have a fix for the storage tabs because of they’re crappy design and because Blizzard wanted to do the greedy live service model. This sort of thing crippled the ability to have multiple characters. That’s just one example, but the game was riddled with live service issues that destroyed the game.

If you're looking for feedback: the little eye bloop noises your character makes is genius and brings me an unproportional amount of joy, and I love the monotone delivery (be it genuine, which I suspect, or not... it's still great in either case). I'm a new subscriber and just found your videos a month ago... I like the critical videos, because I share many of the same perspectives, and it's one of the main reasons I got into game development, I wanted to make the games that I wanted to actually play (I've been in AAA and indie for going on two decades now). An example are your pandoras boxes videos like for SWG --- that's what I lived through... I was there for that... and those where the complaints that me and my friends (even irl friends) had about the game, that we still toss about now and again to this very day. To put it to a timeline and really explain in detail about the failings there, not only hits me with immense nostalgia, not only validates my long standing hatred for what happened to that game that only a small few truly understand the depths of that betrayal, but more than that, it gives me perspective on my own games and games that I work on; And that's priceless. There are some channels that do nothing but shit on upcoming games... Kira being the biggest offender I can think of off the top of my head (games are hard to make, and judging something for being a year or two behind or being crazy picky about alpha footage is inherently nearing grifter status taking advantage of those that don't know anything about game development)... but your content isn't that. I really do enjoy your content, especially from a 'historian' type of way.... if you don't have fun making that content, even if it is inherently critical or negative, you shouldn't make it... but like I said, I rather enjoy your content and I hope you make more. THERE IS ROOM FOR CRITISISM AND NOTING RUINOUS ACTIONS BY DEVELOPERS/PUBLISHERS/ETC... anyone whose hot take is 'it's negative and just farming for views' is throwing the baby out with the bath water... yes some channels are grifters that are overly critical for views... but this channel isn't that; your analysis is competent and very informative... and it gives future developers/publishers/etc confidence in knowing what works and what doesn't work and why.

Your videos were cathartic to me. As someone who grew up loving Blizzard and seeing it slip into the shell of what it was today. Even as someone who never got into WoW as much a hardcore player like yourself, your videos came from a place of love, which is what makes them so. God knows it’s not the voice acting.

Recently you put out a video titled “the Diablo 3 dumpster fire” and I watched it probably twice if not half a third time. I enjoyed the video because I was actually there at the time experiencing the stuff you were discussing and showing. What I enjoyed the most, was how the community across all social platforms came together and voiced our concerns. Most importantly, there was in fact a happy ending with reaper of souls. I appreciated you taking me down memory lane with that video and in no way did I feel like this channel was negative or you came across as a game trash view chaser. In fact, I hadn’t even heard of the term until you made this video here! I think it’s just an opinion some people have which I wouldn’t take to heart. Your content and others speaks for itself. It’s a great, informative channel filled with nostalgia and I wouldn’t mind if you covered some of Helldivers 2 or new stuff as well. The Bob Ross of game channels shouldn’t let this criticism nudge that happy little tree one bit! 😊

I want you to know that your videos pointing out some of the errors, flaws and outright greed that blizz was doing are some of my favorite videos of all time. Because it felt like someone was saying what I had been thinking when I quit. *It came from a place of love and nostalgia and treating a cherished thing with as much respect and fairness and objectivity yet constructional criticism that it earned and knew it was earning* . For no reason other than to make a viewpoint that many didn’t consider or understand or ever will appreciate.

Not a single one that I wouldn't have enjoyed or found insightful since classic era. I just wanted to say this, thank you so much for keeping it real. My dream would have been to play with you as I am 99% sure it would have been fun and resourceful. I quit wow since tbc, sent a message to blizzard stating I will never again play your games as you've repeatedly let down the playerbase, and also your own workers. But, you're probably the only(ok, few more pvp creators) one I watch for wow content. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

In general, a significant number of youtube channels are actually detrimental to the health of a game. Not because they complain about the game, but because they demystify the game to such a fundamental degree, that they flood the community with low hanging fruit. Top 10 lists, things you need to know before you play X, secret ways to make money playing Y. It is too much. A mmo that is solved is no longer about the journey or discovery, which is the antithesis of what a mmo should be. So in a way, the internet is responsible for killing modern gaming standards, because every time a new expansion comes out for wow, there are 20 videos up on every aspect of the game before it's even been out for a week. I think a lot of this contributes to people being angry with online multiplayer games, because if you aren't following these low standard content creators, you aren't following the meta, and therefore don't take the game as seriously as they do. It really isn't a healthy way of thinking of games.

I agree; I wish there was an optimized mmo like WoW with it's selections and choices of gear and content; it's crazy how hard that is to too; doing alittle bit of everything for everyone. Vanilla wow like alot of ppl say wasnt even hard. We were all TRASH when we were kids.

@@Robert_D_Mercer exactly, the game was easier, but it had more soul. Modern blizzard doesn't get this, they still don't get that systems aren't that important in the grand scheme of a MMO's health.

Mr. MadSeason, I genuinely enjoy your perspective. I think the monotone and stoic delivery is what set yours apart in a good way. Its grounded and authentic and what I would expect to hear from a friend in a casual conversation. "It is important to be able to extract useful information from even the most non constructive criticism and critique." This requires a high level of emotional and character maturity and wisdom because it directly stems from the ability to honestly self reflect. This virtue is sorely scarce in current year. I especially wnat to praise your attitude towards receiving inappropriate and non constructive criticism. Anyways, hang in there buddy.. KZfaq is better with you on it.

I like your channel a lot and will be brief. These conversations are interesting but ultimately unproductive when viewers get involved. Content creators in this space make a living playing video games, while viewers use those games and videos to unwind from their real-world jobs. It's difficult for viewers to empathize with content creators. Being able to quit a mundane job and play video games in front of an audience seems like a dream. Hearing content creators complain about games or their communities is like listening to entertainers talk about their work difficulties. It's like peasants trying to understand nobility's problems-they could if they tried, but they're too preoccupied with their own struggles to fully grasp it. I am glad you were able to take a 2 year break and come back feeling better about the game and making videos. A 2 year break from work would help a lot of people right now but they don't get that same luxury. Just my 2 cents amigo. I wish nothing but the best for you, your friends, your family, and anyone else you hold near and dear.

I think that as soon as you're as big as blizzard AND you're incentivised by growth and profit, then the devs/marketing people don't listen to good feedback, the "I want more of that" - BECAUSE the game has to grow and be more profitable each quarter or it's a loss. maintaining happy customers isn't the way forward for a company....

Most positive dude while still being genuine,critical and not sugarcoating what is wrong with the game, Most people have already said this but Madseason makes thee best Blast from the past nostalgia videos, no game will ever be Vanilla or TBC that is why people keep playing that version and private servers, people can say all they want "yeah i found another mmo", but its just a cheap replacement. That is why ill always love madseasons videos cause its just a blast from the past when the game was the peak.

Over the past however many years, we as humans have become so engrossed in the consumption of media. Whether the overall effects of this shift are good or bad is a completely different discussion, but either way the shift happened and that’s just how things are and you can’t really change that. However, people CAN change how they choose to interact with that media. Too many people blatantly consume with little to no thought about what it is they are actually taking in and when that approach is applied to super time consuming games like MMOs or ARPGs, nothing good can come from it. Instead of playing games for the sake of enjoying them, they’re played as an escape or just as something to fill some kind of void. So, when a game like that goes bad, it’s only natural that they’ll continue to engage with it and they’re either incapable of recognizing it’s flaws, or they choose to blame it’s flaws on other people, such as the players or content creators who critique it. It’s the sunk-cost fallacy in action. They’ve invested so much time into it that they can’t justify any sort of criticism because if they admit that the game is flawed, then it would mean all the time spent playing it was wasted. So when someone says something bad about it, they take it as a personal attack. I think the fact that you’re willing to acknowledge a games flaws while still actively rooting for it, and the fact that you can still appreciate the fun times you’ve had in the past, as well as the good things that a game has done for you and the industry as a whole, shows not only your genuine passion for the game, but it shows that you’re a responsible consumer that understands why they engage with specific media. You understand what makes you happy and what doesn’t. You understand just how unhealthy it is to continue shoving something down your own throat for the sake of brand “loyalty” or in order to mindlessly chase after nostalgia. Personally, I absolutely love witnessing the amount of effort you put into expressing your thoughts on any given subject because the way you express yourself demonstrates that you truly care about whatever you’re talking about, whether that be WoW, Blizzard, gaming as a whole, or any of the other topics you’ve covered on your channel and because of that I think you’re genuinely one of the best channels out there.

I will admit that I sometimes watch hate-view content, a big example being Az from Heal vs Babyface. Of course, I find him entertaining, but he also generally covers content I wouldn't otherwise watch, like Batwoman or Robyn Hood. I first encountered your channel when Classic was being released. I had played back in Vanilla, but honestly didn't care if they brought it back with Classic. I had played on some private servers a bit and didn't get into it, possibly because the bulk of them are PVP servers, and I don't play that way. But I watched your videos at that time and your enthusiasm for Classic made me enjoy it more. I joined a guild and raided, something I hadn't done in Vanilla. Life interfered and I left after a few months, and when I returned for Lich King Classic (intentionally skipping Burning Crusade because I detest that expansion with a passion), found my characters had been ported onto the new server and I would have to pay to transfer them back to Vanilla Classic. On the whole though, WoW doesn't work for a casual player. I played Dragonflight when it released, and enjoyed it, joining a guild for raiding and mythic+ content. I stepped away for about 5 months and my heroic-geared main was no longer even viable because I had missed the ilvl advancement. Brand-new 70s were better geared than I was, I was floundering around trying to figure out what I needed to do, and not geared enough to handle it solo. I just went back to ESO, which is what I've generally split my time with WoW on for the past 10 years. At least with ESO, there are no new levels to grind just because they release new content. Crafted gear is viable if not BIS. And character builds I've used for several years are still usable when I return from a break. I can concentrate on enjoying the new content instead of feeling like I've been demoted from master of the universe to noob again. As far as content providers, I still enjoy your videos, as well as those of hirumaredx, even though I'm not playing WoW (and after my last attempt I probably won't return at all). One type of content creator I have no respect for is someone like Asmongold. I thought he was an annoying prick when I saw him on WoW videos, but at one point he tried out ESO and was putting out guides as if he knew anything about the game.

Just wanted to share that I would love to hear your reviews of games. Something I've personally struggled with is since the passing of Totalbiscuit, there aren't a lot of reviewers who go out of their way to find smaller or more niche games and give them in-depth reviews. While there are definitely some out there, they tend to have very accentuated personas that are just too much for me personally. It would be great to see you helping fill that role, as I feel from your WoW content that you're great at providing that same in-depth analysis that often touches on points I wouldn't have even considered previously.
