Getting the GR Corolla to shift as GOOD as a Civic Type-R?

I know where to call a spade a spade, and Honda engineered one of the greatest transmissions known to man in the current FL5 Civic Type-R. Gazoo Racing also blessed the GR Corolla with an equally amazing transmission and shift feel, but I want more!
SO... I am here to install some ‪@2JRacing‬ aluminum shift bushers and ‪@WeAreLikewise‬ Thicc Boi shift knob and GR Corolla Reverse Lockout kit, to improve both the shift feel and aesthetics of the GR Corolla.
In the end, our goal is to get that coveted "snick-snick" feeling when rowing through the gears... do I achieve my goal? Wait find out on this episode of Dragon.... wrong show, sorry... CarQuicks!

So happy to see that other people are starting to get some shifters from Likewise. I have too many of their knobs and only had 1 car (85 300z) for a long time. Finally got a GRC and am trying to get a lockout for it, amazing angle for that console removal. Overall, nicely done actually was mad helpful.

Unfortunately I have not seen an in depth video on how to remove that whole assembly.

Are you referring to the entire shift linkage and assembly? Or just the console interior panels?

@@CarQuicks Entire shift base and cables. Basically methods for removing the shift cables and pins (hooking them back up) and how they slot into the base at the front. Those were a PAIN to get back into place lmao. Does a punchdown tool exist for those that you know of?

Always hated Toyota’s gear-shift housing design….back in the day it was super easy to swap out a short shifter on Honda’s, whereas, on Toyota’s you had to either swap out the whole housing mechanism or tear it down to replace parts.🙄

Yeah, there are times I look at some choices Toyota makes on their cars in comparison to day Honda, and some things are just easier for Honda owners.

After driving with the thicc boi and the reverse lockout for a while, so you still enjoy it? Thinking on going with your exact purchase. What do you think after a couple months?

I swapped the shift knob (but plan to swap back), it was due to summer sun and heat, the lockout is still going strong!

I’m currently in the process of installing my 2J racing bushings. Does the washer go in the middle of the small one in the middle of the bushing halves and what about the original washer for the larger one? Would I put that in the middle as well or in the front, because I heard somewhere that the smaller one the washer was meant to be sandwiched in between the 2 hafts of the bushing, I was just wondering for the sake of keeping the uniform with the washer, go in the middle middle of the larger one as well

Thinking back to when I installed these bushings, I did not run any washer in between the bushing halves. The washer I placed on the outside under the retaining clip.

Hows the likewise lockout still feel? Still smooth? Did you have to add more lube? lol. I’m waiting until spring to install mine!

Nope. Haven’t had to add anything additional and I’ve removed it a couple times since I installed it, just for installing other items. But it’s been performing great this entire time.

It does in stock form... absolutely. I prefer more effort, but you can't go wrong leaving it as is.

In normal driving, the 2nd and 3rd gear shift feel on my circuit isn't anywhere close to "amazing" - its the biggest downside of the car to me right now.

Try out just the bushings to clean up any slop before diving into the full short shifter world, but it could be what you need for a better driving experience.

The GR has a pretty good shifter. It's not far from the Type R.

CAE shifter or nothing at all.

See I want that shifter, but my own nitpicks self doesn’t like the fact I have to trim/cut the bezel around the shifter. I want an OEM+ fitment like the GR Yaris which doesn’t need anything trimmed. I mean ultimately I’m complaining about a small detail, but that’s why I held off on the CAE shifter.

@@CarQuicks totally understandable, 40k for a car and you have to cut it up to fit something does suck. That’s why I purchased another shifter assembly in case I ever decide to sell my GRC.
