That was my moment too since I grew up on visiting the Gilded Age homes with my Mom due to our mutual love of this time period. We would do Newport in July to spend 4 days in Newport to tour the houses to see new areas opened to the public. Then we would do 4 days on Martha’s Vineyard to have July 4th there. We would tour Biltmore at Christmas and my Mom knew more about the homes and their residents than some of the tour guides did. Were from Alabama and visited Alva Vanderbilt’s hometown of Mobile for the Azalea Trail in the Spring. After I married my husband, I delved into his family history. His grandfather was from Philadelphia and came to Birmingham to run the first major trauma center as the Hospital President in the 1960s. I found old photo albums from his parents and grandparents and was so shocked to learn he had grown up in Philadelphia high society and was a Mayflower Society member and the albums are full of gorgeous pictures of their travels abroad and gorgeous homes like those on the show. His family were founders of Philadelphia and 3 Signed the Declaration of Independence, one helped develop the Supreme Court and another literally melted down all his personal silver holdings to bankroll the first US Currency. Their homes are all historic sites in Philadelphia and we plan to visit them soon. He has little interest in it but I just live the history and it greatly explain a lot of the antique silverware we inherited with pieces going back to the 1690s. I’m the family historian and are documenting all the history and stories for our future generations. The craziest part of it all is his grandfather fell in love with the beautiful daughter of the owner of the men’s haberdasher shop where he bought his wardrobe. It was the most prominent one where the high society of Philadelphia shopped for their wardrobes but still very middle class. He met her when she was home from her art school/finishing school and he was home from Princeton. They fell madly in love and created a bit of a Philadelphia society gossip when he married beneath his social standing for love. It took a few years to win over his mother and his family but love won out in the end.

Season 3 has now been announced. So the battle between Astor and Russell continues.

Googled it just now and the top 3 spots of the search are all 6 days old. VARIETY, TOWN AND COUNTRY, DEADLINE, HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. so don't come at me like I'm an idiot cuz I made this post the day it was announced. At the time I posted this there was no announcement.

I’m hopeful they don’t just drop the Oscar’s/Maude storyline. I felt like he just gave up on tracking her down and the lost $$$, and I can’t see that happening with his fire-brand mother, Agnes, demanding that he go find her money!! There were detective agencies at that time (Pinkerton’s) that could have been enlisted to at least do a preliminary investigation into Maude B.

@@lisamckinney7642 If they go based off the real "Maud B" which is Cassie Chadwick, she eventually gets sued by one of the banks she takes a loan from and sent to the Ohio State prison and dies at 50. So if they continue to use her story as inspiration we might not see her until later in season 3 or season 4 where Oscar and Agnes might be witnesses in court. I don't get the strongest vibe that they'll have a way to continue to story with Oscar really involved unless they get more creative with Maud's story and diverge from the similarities. I do agree with you that Oscar completely gave up and that might cause some issues in the next season and he might go from being the "star" of the family to just a disappointing character who no longer has any ambition and we could then see Marian become essentially a savior to Oscar and help him get his groove back.
