1:30 could be Andruil, she did make an armour made out of red lyrium (minus the Templar symbol) after all that made her go insane and hunt her followers.

Oddly enough the winged, multi-legged horse made me immediately think "griffon", like someone trying to depict one based only on description.

MangaPunkSai Hm, that could be! I wonder why there are no murals of griffons, come to think of it!

As for the Templar like mural, we have to think? Where did that symbol come from? When I see that mural, I think of Andruil, and the flaming sword could possibly be Andruils weapon that she forged, the great weapon that the elves of the past were afraid of. There is a good chance that the templars merely adopted the image much later on time. It is also likely that the person who made these murals, aka Solas, was trying to draw a comparison between the templars, and the one who was wearing the black armor.

Devon Thomas Oh, definitely could be! I also recall an astrarium in the Jaws of Hakkon DLC that mentions where this flaming sword symbol came from, but I can't remember all the details at the moment. I'll get back to you on this if it leads to anything! lol

The Calenhad Red Bottle mural probably depicts King Calenhand drinking dragon blood.

The first mural made me think of Andruil in her void armor, which we've come to think is armor made from red lyrium surrounded by her victims

Ohhhhsnap. This video has so much more meaning now that we have the new DA4 murals and Tevinter Nights to add context! Like the paintings at 5:00- the bear, the white lady, and it looks like there's a grey figure beside them? Those seem like the "Monster/Priestess/Supplicant" trio from The Horror of Hormok! And the corrupted dragons, and all the other stuff, it's just- wow, there's a LOT to unpack here. This is awesome!

@@girltriesgames that's awesome!! I can't wait. I've been going through your other analysis videos and you have an amazing knack for finding the most meaningful bits of lore. Like the bit you quote from the Chant of Light in your pre-Descent video on the Titans! It's amazing how much relevant data you scrubbed from the games well before Bioware even came close to revealing the answers. Thank you so much for all the work you do for our community!!

2:15 ff I saw those Murals again today in the emerald graves and began wondering. Something in this reminded me of Tevinter (maybe just because it was the emerald knights and their graves; elves fighting humans) and kept me thinking. Tevinter would make the red not red lyrium or the blight, but blood - Tevinter killing elves. More specifically, spilling their blood. Which makes the yellow circle not the sun, but the golden city, of course! Maybe I'm just a little crazy, but it felt like puzzle pieces klicking together to me. What do you think?

8:05 That painting, I believe, is a dog. You see the same painting in the Blades of Hessarin camp. The BoH use war dogs (probably mubari). Dogs are a common depiction in Fereldan art.

With it being in Ferelden, it could be a product of Ash Warriors or the Chastened.

Maybe the dragon represents mythal, and the (what I'm guessing is a hart) represents Ghilan'nain, the halla mother? Animals with antlers? Maybe they were allies, like The Dread wolf and Mythal were allies. Maybe Ghilan'nain is the one that betrayed Mythal and killed her? Maybe that's why they made such a big deal about her in Jaws of Hakkon. In conclusion: maybe maybe maybe

That bear-looking creature in Calenhad's foothold and in the barn at Skyhold is also repeated on the third floor (or top floor), next to the window of the smith house at Skyhold. The floor above where Cassandra and Varric had that fight about him knowing where Hawke was all along. Which makes me question why would there be the same unique painting in the same location out of all the other paintings the developers could've used?

Aurorian Meows I have also found it in Crestwood on a building, as well as the crossroads refugee area in the Hinterlands in the hunter's cabin. It's strange, because the animal symbolism is SO Elven, but it is only found in human areas... hmm!!

So glad to have found this. I was perplexed by the "Red Templar" mural I found in Fen'Harel's old home. Did some searching and even went to post the pic up to see if anyone had answers. So far, your and your commentator's have produced the best solution, though not entirely happy with it. Sorry, I meant to say thank you for the videos and everything, excellent work ^_^

There's a new theory going around that Andruil went to the Void, got the Blight and then brought it back to plague her lands. Because it gave her greater power, she became like a Red Templar and even recruited other members of the pantheon. She may have been the one who started the Blights. I think it's very possible she got Dirthamen and Ghilan,nain, too, since Ghilan'nain was a strong ally of hers. Perhaps these paintings indicate that Dirthamen and Ghilan'nain had something going on--don't know what, though. Maybe they merged together to become some fierce creature! Those paintings in Skyhold have to be Solas', though. Maybe he painted them before the fall of Arlathan in the other locations in the game. That would be really weird, but cool....

The creature in the Emerald graves mural (6:59 ish) reminds me of a Griffon! Totally agree with the Red Lyrium symbolism, perhaps it's hinting at origins of the Blight and Grey Wardens?

omg my brains are burning for answers! P.S. these paintings of "zombi like" elfs are really creepy. I wonder if they can be connected to the fall of Elvhenan, the way how they distroyed themselfs, as Abelas said.

They could have been changed by elves throughout the years. Like the one with the Templar on it and the elves behind it. Could have been another Elven figure that one of the first dalish painted over with a black figure to represent man. Someone else comes along and sees this in modern times and adds the hints of red and the symbol on the shield. The elves have a history of covering up their own history.

The yellow ram with white horns (the one found in the temple of mythal & etc) seems to represent the golden halla that appears in times of great need. though, the golden halla you are asked to herd to the dalish camp in the exalted plains is white with golden horns.
@girltriesgames
@girltriesgames 9 жыл бұрын
connieleeann see, I keep calling it a golden halla in my head, also, but the horns are so different than the antlers! I'm not sure!! Maybe it was just a stylistic choice?? hahah I have no idea!

I just assumed since all the other animals depicted in murals don't look 100%. Also, in the camp where you herd the golden halla to there is one painted above the cave where the halla are hanging around in :)

Principe Negrô yeah, someone else down the comments mentioned that, also! That was my first thought, but those antlers don't really look anything like a halla's to me, which is why I thought more like a ram of some kind? But, I suppose it could just be a stylistic choice to make the antlers different!

Deer all have different Antlers. Just because Bambi didn't have any antlers ,didn't mean she wasn't a deer. I know, I know. Halla aren't deer, dear.

@girltriesgames
@girltriesgames 9 жыл бұрын
Principe Negrô I'm pretty sure griffons (as described in The Last Flight book and all of the Grey Warden heraldry and all other fantasy genre descriptions) were the body of a lion, and the head and talons of an eagle? This one looks like a horse or deer of some kind with many legs. Not a lion or an eagle? If you know of other types of griffons in the DA world, let me know where I can read about them! :)

Niice video..really intriguing..i never gave these murals so much consideration but now i am gonna go to all these places u showed and check'em out myself!...:P..:D...i have clearly underestimated the vastly profound dragon age lore....i really wish that they bifurcate the dragon age games into two timelines...one series that is taking place and continuing in the current timeline and they start one more series of games in the distant past timeline when the elves were dominant in thedas...just think about playing those games kinda parallely...it will answer soooo many mysteries....ok i am totally geeking out now!..time to stop..:P
