Yeah it seemed magical that she was able to dig and dig and not find a ton of rocks. Obviously she has incredible skill, but also few to no major rocks is a huge plus.

I love how everything is so rudimentary and then she pulls out the Tupperware with the food all nicely done. Fantastic job, she has my vote for builder of the year

I really like the idea of dugouts. My hesitation has always been, what about heavy rain?

I've been observing her surroundings and since she's in a very dense forest/ jungle my thought would be it's very dense clay in the trees and everything would absorb and diffuse most of the heavy rain and it'll take a while for the water to seep down that deep but if she had plastic tarpaulins she could drape over insecure to the ground it would defuse the water away from her shelter

Entertaining, for sure. It would be nice to have such soft ground whenever you needed to create a shelter. Where I live, you'd hit rock at about an inch & an half deep.

I'm actually a builder. Trust me, u need skill and experience as well strength and stamina. This video is fake AF. She doesn't show how those walls are made so cleanly and straight. There's a video on KZfaq that has exposed these frauds.

She's building it during the dry season and has no plans to actually live in it.. but it does make for an entertaining KZfaq video and also helps pay her bills for the house she lives in.

I love watching her work, she has to be really strong the way she throughs all that dirt and digging. I wonder if animals and bugs and spiders move in as well. As she is digging you can see some running around. Wonder if it rains if it floods in the hut?

@@nmg1909 I meant how rainwater does not get to the parts not protected by the roof, since they are below ground level. Mine is just a question of curiosity =).

What is so very.....very obvious to me is that she isn't building this in order to live in it. Sure, she could live in it for a little bit, but obviously she built this only to showcase her skills. This is KZfaq, after all.

I have asked myself the same question when seeing all these videos of shelters built into the ground. If you're in an area that experiences heavy rain it will end up being a mess. It will fill up like a swimming pool. A big muddy swimming pool. If you want to watch realistic bushcraft shelter builds. Then stick with the above ground shelters.

Wouldnt it be fine if at the top of a hill or high ground and the opening is completely covered from rain ingress? As any excess ground water seepage would run down to lower ground?

I can tell from own experience if built properly you will have no problems with leakage also mrjudsonjames already assumed correctly about the drainage

Never make a pit on a hill that isnt somewhat open at the end you can dig a gutter system really easily, never use the bottom as thats where it gathers most

Amazing work, she should figure out how to improve on the comfort side (“luxury’s”) and offer them as experiences. Tonnes of people would take a few days away from their norm. Either way - that’s awesome!

Question 2: being in the jungle, I'm sure the rainy season gets pretty intense, do you not need a cover over your chimney? And no cover for your stove to stay dry when you need to cook during the rain? I'm only asking because I want to attempt a build like this when we buy our land.

I think if she made it for days and full of sweat and dirt but would be more believable. Cant believe with that deep and details in a day or half day only.hehe.Just by setting up the camera and the angles is also work and time consuming just all by herself. Its not normal but atleast entertaining to watch.
