Bethany saying "We can't control _everything_ about other people" is very telling. I wonder what parts she thinks they _can_ control.

Well, conservative and/or authoritarian people are convinced that it's normal to group control everyone in parts. That control by the in-group is an undeniable part of nature that can't be done without. Like not just people interacting with each other with empathy, respect and consideration but with hard and fast rules that suppress parts of people's individuality. Basically you can be yourself but not 100% 😅

The slut-shaming crowd also tends to be very quick to judge women wearing baggy clothes and no makeup for “not being feminine enough.” It’s an excuse for them to sh!t on other women, imo.

Girl defined is talking about “sexy selfies” as if a sexy pic had never been taken before smartphones. Like do they realize there are literal pictures on film that people had taken of themselves naked to gift to their sweethearts for like a special occasion, or for them to take with them to war and shit. Like literal black and white Polaroids, and reels of film with old fashioned nudes. It wasn’t openly spoken of, but like I saw a picture in the hall of my grandmothers old folks home of a few women in flappers style, in just their hats and beads, posing, and having an amazing time.

26:10 as a curvier girl myself, the ideology that curves are inherently sexual is so so so problematic and Christian’s such as Bethany and Kristen definitely feed into that stereotype. When they discuss “seductive pictures” they only talk about curvier, fleshier, bigger women, and I have no doubt that if a curvy girl posted a general picture they would see that as sexual because they have been so conditioned to strip women of their humanity and objectify them, especially those who are different to them (none Christian women, six workers, non conveniently attractive etc etc). People with ideas such as Kristen and Bethany, perpetuate such dangerous ideas that could cause real damage to real women. Wonderful video btw

Tam and Sanner are in the effing hilarious zone today, and together you had me ROFL.. Isn't Bethany the original Violet from Charlie's Chocolate Factory? I'd recognize that accent (spoiled brat) anywhere! 'Daddy, I HATE girls!' On Saturday they're dragging hussy competition 'witches' to the stake to be burned. On Sunday, they weep at Jesus' feet for the sins of those hussies! These are the original mean girls defined.

My last social media post was a pick of 3" tall anthropomorphic rabbits painting their future "municipal tea house." A lot of double-sided tape was involved. I _am_ married already, but I feel like at this point in my life, I'd be doing the same stuff... the "defined" ladies kind of make me want to post something unwholesome by their 'standards.' Smh... ETA: My partner learned the word "thirst trap" after finding it in the _New Yorker,_ realizing it was unfamiliar new slang, feeling old, and then googling it... so it's possible to just be sort of old and busy...

I hate how they speak about curvier women being more sexy and showing off when that's not always the case. As a sex repulsed asexual and former christian the last thing I want is for people to find me sexy. When I think back about the clothes I wore to hide my body when I was part of church I hate how comments like these made me feel like I couldn't wear what other girls wore so I wouldn't attract attention to me 😑 What we choose to wear does not define how worthy we are!

the thirst trap thing, where she pretend she doesnt know what it is might just be faked for their super young and super old people watching. since they might have people in their audience who dont know so she pretends to get a spot in the vid where they can explain what it is. so weird to be like this vid is for an out of touch 80 year old and a freakishly sheltered 7 year old. i really wish i knew what their demo was

8:54 Ugh. Gotta love that she needs to make an issue of something that didn't concern her. I felt that way when I was a teen and super insecure. Bethany is more obsessed with other woman's bodies then Dave has ever seemed to. Dave is coming off so sweet begging for a couple pic. 17:45 Embrace every stage of your life. It is true that as long as you can feel confident, you can be sexy. I don't like Bethany for her toxic beliefs. But I do see how uncomfortable she is in her own skin and feel bad for her. There is an arrested development. And a forced "confidence" when she started that sexy course. But I can understand that purity culture has created these mindsets.

at 55:30 when kristen talks about feminist movements and ideas but then puts it as "women were told that it's okay to/they should..." that's a really glaring instance of something i think they do a lot, shifting the framing from choices women and girls consciously make inside a sexist society to them just passively going along with whatever is trendy. completely erasing womens roles in shaping those cultural norms in the first place

In Bethany's defence, it could be pure cringe about her tween years because I FEEL that lol deconstructing from Purity Culture I'm now at the ripe ol' 27 going through my Manny Santos "not cute, not adorable - HOT" stage. So any remembrance I was a cringe lil dorky teen who wore butterfly tops when out, and took jailbaity selfies when in my room, is just a big AAAAHHHH. I feel it ruins my cred that I'm trying to build. So I get it. I get cringing at your childhood self. I actually hate my childhood self because she was so the opposite of cool lol

Finally someone understands - the struggle is real ❤ So often, when I look at fundamentalist Christian women I think to myself: "Why are these women shamelessly showing off their hair and neck?" I wanted to convert to Islam in my youth specifically because the dress code for a lot of catholic nuns was too loose for me back then 😂 Still to this day those thoughts creep into my mind uninvited, I can't shake them off completely. Religion has changed my way of looking at women forever 😢

Meanwhile I stopped posting pictures because as a woman with a large chest and butt, I felt sexualized too much. Being told you're always trying to turn people on when you're already so insecure about your body, for me personally, is a really horrible experience. So I'm sure some girls do it for the reason of being more flirty, I really hope people stop making those assumptions about people.

26:59 She is an ahole with that insinuation. Growing up and in my teens developing fairly early. I felt shame in my curvy body at 14. I would wear oversized shirts and pants to hide my figure because of that messed up patriarchal sexualization of children. I wished I was like her where I didn't have curves. Finally grew up and out of that mindset but she is ticking me off. I hope no curvy teens are discouraged even more by her comments. Most girls just don't want to dress frumpy because they have curves. They want to wear pretty clothes too. 39:37 Well Bethany looked like she intentionally lied that she would NEVER take a seductive photo. But didn't seem to deny she remembers when Kristen brought it up. I really dgaf because I did try dressing up and makeup with friends in my teens. I just don't judge other people.

Can confirm that older women can appreciate thirst traps as well just maybe in a different form like glamour shots 😂 my grandmother (RIP, she is the reason I have red hair ❤) LOVED having her picture taken, well into her later years. One time my adult aunt found a sexy framed photo of my Grammy at her house (my gma's house) and she was so embarrassed she tried to hide the photo 😂 which my Grammy pulled back out and put it back on display haha. And my other aunt was helping my grammy get dressed one time, and Grammy WANTED her bra strap to show and my aunt told her no 😂 GIRL! LET HER LIVE!! ~~ I always say my Grammy is the only person who would've really understood me as an adult but she sadly passed away when I was just entering my Jr high emo phase. 😢 She was a HOOT! She was so beautiful and funny and smart. I take after her in so many ways. ❤ God, do I wish she was still here. I would convince her to do a sexy photoshoot with me. ❤

Samantha does have something Pfeiffer about her. Those two girls in the video are a bit wayyyyy over-the-top. "Vessels of the Holy Spirit." Ugh. "What we, as Christian women,..." "We aren't part-time Christians." "Confident in our identity in Christ." All the head nodding. Just kill me. Too much of the theory of women must be one way... as dictated by the (toxic) patriarchy. It's cartoonish. And sad. What a guilt trip brain washed mind cage to try to live within.

I gotta admit that this is one thing that I still tend to get pretty judgy of. It's kind of one thing to be like "I'm proud of my body and I'm not afraid to show it" and another to say "look at me! Aren't I hot? Pay attention to me pleeaase". It's childish and a little vain. I think we've all done this or something similar when we were adolescents, so I think there's some room to say "it's all in good fun" but if I see someone do this regularly all I see is "this person needs the validation of strangers"

It is so hard to watch Bethany and Kristen together because whenever Bethany is talking the look on Kristen’s face says loud and clear, “I don’t want to be here. You are so stupid it’s embarrassing. I can’t believe I have to do this to make money. …and I’m so much prettier than you are!”

Rancoeur se prononce comme coeur :) La règle est: c devant a, o et u se prononce comme un k; c devant e, i ou y se prononce comme un s; la cédille (ç) permet de prononcer un c comme un s devant a, o et u. Je sais pas si ça aide :)
