The only thing against Southgate is that the God of Penalties doesn’t seem to like him, as player or manager. But for penalty misses by himself in 1996, and his players in the 2020 Euros and 2022 World Cup, England might now have a few more trophies in the trophy cabinet.

@Chriztefur
@Chriztefur 14 күн бұрын
You’re reading this too much on the surface though. We KNOW the football is bad. It was never going to be world class with these players. The problem is, United fans have acted for the past decade as if we have had the tools and resources to play great football. We literally had bankers running our football operations. No plan, no blueprint, no idea. How is 10 years of that merciless spending on big names rather than hunting smart profiles going to be suddenly spun around in 2 years? The football is awful because this club has been awful with the football side of things for far too long, and now it is showing in its ugliest form. People expect a new manager to come in and start improving this team. They will NOT improve. I’ve been hearing this Rashford nonsense for years that, ‘another manager will get him playing’. How many is it going to take? He’s 26 and on 375k a week. When do the lights come on in people’s heads? Why is it that knowledgable, prestigious coaches or football people have come and gone from this club and all had bad things to say about it? INEOS have a chance to change this, but if they sack the manager in favour of allowing their next one to judge the players - they will feel the scrutiny in 18 months when the same bunch of players turn on them. The biggest problem is that a lot of these players think they have ‘made it’. They pocket stupid amounts of money every 7 days whether they are abysmal on the pitch or not. If you are getting paid 375k a week to simply turn up at your job, why would you care about your performance there when you’re going to be paid anyway? ten Hag’s simply the final victim at the end of the line, and it’s always worse for the one at the end because they are being hit with 10 years worth of toxicity.

The fact INEOS / Ratcliffe haven't publicly committed to sticking with ETH will not be helping the dressing room. They need to publicly back him otherwise some players will think he's getting sacked and this impacts performances. I personally think ETH should be given one more season. Yes, this season has been extremely poor and yes there doesn't seem to be any direction, but there's arguably mitigating circumstances, including a squad with gaping holes from prior team structures. The gamble on eriksen and casemiro only paid off for one season. The injuries to Shaw, Martinez, Malacia have been damming, whereby no left back is extremely detrimental to our left wing play and Rashfords game. That and our back up defensive options force an entirely different approach due to their strengths / weaknesses. Then there's the issues with Sancho, Greenwood, Donny and to some extent Antony (although Antony has shown improvement of late). There is also no manager available that guarantees anything. Only Pep arguably guarantees anything and that's not happening. The club need to decide what they're doing with Sancho and Greenwood. Cash in this summer or if deciding ETH has to go, there's possibly a role for Sancho or both. They need to let go of Varane, Lindelöf, Eriksen, Casemiro, Martial and those on loan like Donny, Williams and Fernandez. They need 2 x quality cms; one out and out DM and one who can cover DM. They need a left back and centre back. They need an additional and experienced striker. The like of Maguire, McTomminay and Rashford should not be sold unless significant offers are made such that quality replacements can be bought. For a start Maguire and McTomminay have been the few positives of the season. They're important for the squad morale and work ethic. They're useful squad members. Rashfords game will improve when paired with a left back and an experienced striker whilst hojlund develops his game.

A lot of the things you say are great but Rashford is 26 and we’re still talking about hoping he improves. He has NEVER been a great footballer. @@Chriztefur I don't pay attention to the Rashford online agenda. It's just nonsense from people who don't understand football and outsource their depression and frustrations onto him rather than get a grip of themselves and apply some critical thinking. I already highlighted why our leftwing play has suffered this season and directly impacted Rashfords game; we've had no left back. Effective wing play is based on a supporting / overlapping left back and intelligent movement from the striker. Rashford / the team has had neither. That's the reason why Rashford hasn't carried the team on his own like last season and has managed roughly the same goal contributions as Hojlund, Garnacho, Bruno, and McTomminay this season. Sure, people like to make stuff up about Rashfords work ethic, but the publicly available league statistics show Rashford is 2nd only to Bruno in the United squad for work rate and in the top 30 in the league out of 400+ players.

I rate Southgate and think he can do a decent job at United. I'd put him second after Zidane. We need the players at United to be inspired, clearly Southgate is that inspirational figure because morale in that England team was ABSOLUTELY on the floor. And we absolutely are underrating the psychological achievements with England. - We never won a penalty shootout, ever now won one with him ✅ - we never won against Germany in a knockout game. We then did under his tenure ✅ - we'd not qualified for a final since 1966 in an international tournament. We then did with him ✅ - Let's not forget the the fact we got too a world cup semi. The first time done 1966, and the first tournament full stop since 1996 ✅ How can you not give him credit for all this? Why is the magnitude of all these achievements downgraded? They were HUGE milestones weighing down in the team. And we have HUGE psychological constraints on us at United. So on that front I can't think of anyone better!

Well said, all our problems predate tenHag. Getting him out now will just add to the long to do list of the restructuring and man is is long even to outsiders like me. Even if there's another manager in mind, lets get the structure straight before getting them cause if we get a new manager now, they'll fail like the many before him

Motta for me, if you watch in depth analysis of the 2-7-2 style he imposes, it suits the PL massively. His philosophy aswell when he describes when his teams attacking, they think of defending and when they're defending they think of attacking, sounds obtuse but makes total sense.

Plus how much does it keep costing us soacking managers but are happy to keep martial and Phil jones around some players should be released and we take the hit on them otherwise they stay and nothing changes we must ride the storm properly

@benjamingerard7112 we need two players for basically every position to even begin competing for the league. That's just a basic nessecity at the top level of the league. We need competition in every position. We're a mile off that. That's not his fault. I don't want a manager who's going to do well to finish 3rd or 4th with a shit team. I want a manager who's got the pedigree to be the best once he has the right tools.. He's not even had a chance to do that yet, bc he's been fighting a gun fight with pots and pans. He's far better than any of the names being mentioned, he's shown his quality at Ajax. Let the club get fixed by ineos and I promise he's gonna cook.

@vee__7
@vee__7 13 күн бұрын
@benjamingerard7112 I would say he finished 3rd last season, and that was without injury problems. That's the evidence that he's got the quality. That was in his first season, essentially with no decent striker. That's a pretty remarkable achievement for a first season especially given the circumstances, and it's often forgotten or dismissed. People seem to only want to judge on his worst moments. Again, if the club was not in disarray and recruitment wasn't so terrible, these problems wouldn't look remotely the same as they currently do. So it's not the correct litmus test to judge him on this season, i.e. his worst period. Judge him on his best, i.e. last season.. that's a far better reflection of how he'd be in a competent set up, which is hopefully what ineos will put together heading into this summer window. I respect your opinion, but I want to see ten hag be given a real chance. I don't consider this season as being even close to a real chance
@benjamingerard7112
@benjamingerard7112 13 күн бұрын
@@vee__7 that's fair enough. But people are judging these players on a bad season and not forgetting they had the same season as ten hag last time. And in your words we need to replace every position twice. Why? Because they've had a bad season? Let's be real rashford scored 30 goals and got 10 assists last year, yet people want him sold this summer, why the difference in attitude towards the players Vs the manager, if the success can be credited to only one (the manager or the players) the why are the failures not credited to the same person. Again. I'm not saying he should be sacked or not. But I'm struggling to find any reason to keep him. You can say the players have stopped playing for him, they havent. A lot of the negative traits in ten hag can be traced back to his Ajax days. That's my concern

Well changing managers is something that hasn't worked how many more managers do Man Utd need I mean for 22 years I've been a fan for 11 years it was great when it lasted won everything there was but then 11 years after a couple of silverware was decent but not great. But since 2017/18 it's been very downwards some shocking defeats and lowest points football started to becoming depressing but in truth how many good seasons have Man Utd had barely 2-3. But once Man Utd finish a decent position there's always something negative that follows. Till this day this season has been bad but not as bad it was 2021/22. But he's had almost 2 years Erik ten Hag he's got a bang average team 3rd with a league cup but this season the expectation was too much but I know from the past Man Utd have one or two good seasons then have a stinking season. The only suprise is Man Utd are playing so bad against everyone not just the best sides. I mean taking points from Liverpool feels like we actually lost knowing we should of lost. But that's not the case. Erik ten Hag tactics wise he's come up with some silly excuses but sometimes you just feel there's deep into it. These players are selfish and don't listen they stop playing the body language tells you players like Marcus Rashford in the last 4 years he's had one good season then vanishes into air. Man Utd we're pressured before this current season started 23/24. They finish 8th it's what they deserve because they've played bad. Gareth Southgate never want that ever not even when I'm old not good enough.middlesbrough was his only club management. Erik ten Hag should at least have until his contract until next year. If it doesn't work out then I think he will go himself.

De Zerbi. 2nd season dip in standings - excuses are made for him. Potter, at one of the BIG Prem teams. Blame placed on having too many players and blame placed on the owner. ten Hag. More injuries to starters - and out for longer - than any other team by a good sized margin. Player maturity issues, player effort issues, player age issues, player quality issues. Mainstream press and online peanut gallery pundits - TEN HAG OUT. Year one with players who sullied the reputations of three previous managers, 3rd-place finish. Now, beginning with INSANE U.S. preseason jaunt mandated by blatant money whore owners (conveniently forgotten is ten Hag being all but openly chastised for not playing Mason Mount IMMEDIATELY after his acquisition in the preseason despite him coming off an injury-ridden previous season because… jersey sales profits) that set the table for the inordinate number of injuries, plus having a non-existent recruitment team, (yes, it WAS MURTOUGH, et al who didn’t get Antony at 32-35M instead waiting until they had to pay 80M! - United is 7th. Immature players. Players deciding whether or not a game is worth 100% effort who then pout when benched the next game. A 19-year old striker who just finished his first season as the main #9… IN THE DANISH LEAGUE! A team captain who’s played more minutes than any other Prem player over the last 3 seasons outside of keepers. Immaturity on full display by your team’s star AND his 19-year old opposite wing mate… and the player with THE most consistent in and off pitch composure is… EIGHTEEN!!!! What to do?!
