These GIY (Green-It-Yourself) household cleaning wipes using natural, non-toxic products are so easy to make.
When my kids were super young, every day was made up of a million tiny tasks, none of which I could ever remember when anyone asked that simple but awful question, “What did you do today?”
“Uh, well, I kept everyone alive?” No small task, some days.
Any little scrap of a timesaver was life blood. I am convinced that whomever invented housecleaning wipes was a mother, or at least lived with one.
The likelihood that I can find both a cloth and the correct cleaner at the same moment that they’re actually needed is very, very low. And by the time I have laid my hands on both, the initial mess has probably exploded.
All that to say, having the cloth and cleaner in the same container is such a beautiful thing.
Here’s the super simple recipe:
For Reusable Wipes: an old t-shirt or two cut into wipe-sized squares
For Disposable Wipes: a paper towel roll cut in half (an electric knife works best)
A Glass or Plastic container
Solution:
1 1/2 c. (360 mL) filtered, distilled, or boiled then cooled water
1 tbsp. (15 mL) Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Liquid Soap or 1/2 tbsp. (7.5 mL) Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds
1/4 tsp. (20 drops) tea tree essential oil
Put the wipes in your container. Mix up the solution ingredients and pour it over the wipes. Let them sit for 20 minutes or so to soak up all the liquid. Now they’re good to go!
These have a shelf-life of 1 to 2 weeks, so make up as many as you’d use in the period of time.
For more on green cleaning & body care, including ways to use our family’s Sal Suds and Castile Soaps, visit my website at LisaBronner.com. Shop Dr. Bronner’s products online at DrBronner.com.
Sal Suds cleaner shows greater than 60% biodegradation after 28 days per ISO 14593.

Thanks for the video Lisa! I love using the old tshirts as rags but when they’re thinning I recycle them again into yarn for bathroom mats. They last forever and I just love taking it one more step. I’m going to try the wipes recipe soon as I just love Dr. Bronners soap. I just got the cherry blossom and green tea scent and omg they smell so good!!

@@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner I grew up on a farm and we reused everything. Old torn up clothing would be rags, patches for the knees of my brothers jeans, used as fabric for quilts, etc. nothing went to waste. We couldn’t afford to waste anything. It’s taught me a valuable lesson in life.

I am so relieved you don't use vinegar! The Mold Elimination Diet lists vinegar as high in mold, and people with asthma like me cannot use vinegar!!!

Question - you mentioned that the wipes have a shelf life of 1-2 weeks. Must I totally dispose of the wipes afterwards, or can I just wash 'em and reuse? Which would you recommend? Thanks!

Absolutely if you've used cloth wipes, you can wash them and start with a fresh solution.

Can I use vinegar for the disinfectant? I don’t like teatree
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner
@GoingGreenwithLisaBronner 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Meadow- It has a pungent smell, doesn't it?? There’s not another essential oil that I know of that has the same properties. Instead you can replace the tea tree with another essential oil that you like, or omit it altogether. The soap in the solution will do the cleaning. Vinegar does not have broad disinfecting properties and can’t be mixed with the Castile Soap. It causes the soap to unsaponify and turn into a goopy mess.

Can I use lemon instead of tea tree?

Hi Christine- Tea tree is known for it's antimicrobial properties, which is why I chose it here. But you can whatever essential oils you like.

I read tea tree can be toxic to pets and my kids were going to use these wipes to clean their pet cage so I erred in the side of caution and used lemon, for this purpose anyway. Ill try tea tree for other uses. Thanks so much!!! I'm new to GIY so all the help you give is just wonderful. Thank you!
