In the new webseries in cooperation with Glidecam USA, Stefan shows the basic movements with the handheld stabilizer from Glidecam.
In this episode you will get some tips for the focal lengh what makes sense to use on a Glidecam system.
And my friends once again:
we all need to bend our knees to walk but not to crouch!
Stand up straight relax and walk as usual with slight bends in the knees that occur when walking upright :-))
If you want more on this Glidecam webseries:

+Stefan Czech Great to see videos to your standard for training on Glidecam. Its a great system. Maybe in the future would you think of doing one on how to correctly setup the 'Vest Arms' please. Everything sounds easy reading the manuals but some information and experience would be a great help. Thank you once again..

Hi. For the canon c100 mark it, how many weights do you put on? I put on four on each side and it gets heavy...

I am hesitant to buy a glidecam having a t7i for two main reasons: It is 1.1 pounds (no money to attach mics, there are no grips, etc.) and is a crop, which Ive heard they are not so good with steadicams as they are "too zoomed". But i Really want a glidecam dgs :(

To be honest, I think ultra wide angle lenses often make videos look cheap. A 35-70mm FF equivalent looks a lot more natural to my eye.

Thanks for these videos! Question: Are you still doing some stabilizing in post i.e. warp stabalizer in Adobe Premiere or the built in stabilization in FCP X. Sometimes it looks a little like that slower or almost jelly type smoothing from those filters. Maybe you are just that good and my eyes are playing tricks on me. Thank you!
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 8 жыл бұрын
+Joey Elswick Thanks for the comments. No, that not the idea to use a camera stabyliser in the firts place. But evtl. it will look that way because some older footage was shot in 30p on the Canon 5D Mark II befor the update to 25p. And this is a 25p video, so it had to convert by the editing software for playback. Cheers Stefan

Hey man one basic question , great tutorial by the way ! So I got not the best equipment since I cant efford a new camera . I use a brigde camera fuji hs 35 exr with 24-720 build in lense F/2,8 . The camera can only shoot in 30 fps in hd and full hd. So is it possible to get a cinematic look with my tarion steadycam and the camera that I have , because I mainly shoot cars for some kind of cinematic videos. I try the best with after effects to color correct the video and so on. But i cant get a nice look with a depth of field , if you know what i mean. So i guess my lens is not good enough :/ or do you have any advice to get a better shot. I even try to convert my 30fps into 23,976 in after effects since i heard its better. :)
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 8 жыл бұрын
HI, first, try to shot evereything as you want. Dont film in 30fps and than convert it to 23.98fps...if there is no good reason for that. Learn what focal length is doing to your frame. Many "filmmaker" on KZfaq had no idea why a 16mm closeup looks so different to a mediumshot with a 35mm lense. Dont relay on postproduction, make a good movie befor starting filming. Keep on training and have fun Cheers Stefan

For me the 1.5-2 sec droptime is way to fast. After 3 years of using glidecam i came to sense that 2.5-3 is the best setting. Only then you can get a really perfect motion without any vibrations or moving from left to right. I can see by some of your shots that they have some issues, and that because your droptime is to fast.

Anyway, i could see some really handy tips for begginiers on this series. Its nice of you that you made it.
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Soul, the 1.5-2 sec. are perfect for beginners. Thats what this serie is for. If you have a longer DT it will become much more sensetive. And with this light weight stabilizer its not easy. If you have a 12kg sled on a west, a 3 sec. DT is perfect.

@@StefanCzech Hi Stefan, So can a too long droptime actually make it harder to get a smooth shot?
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 5 жыл бұрын
vision - spoken truth yes, it become more sensitive. If you have a shorter droprime, you use the weight and the mass inertia!!!

@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 8 жыл бұрын

From looking at your tutorial help me made a decision off getting a glidecam. How may weights do you need for the c100 mark 1 with the top handle and the 24-105 or efs 10-18
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 8 жыл бұрын
+dtechlogic Hi, thanks man. I think two at the freont and two on the backside of the bottomplate must be ok. Balance the rest over the telecopic centerpost or with the DGS with the gimbalposition.
@filmautre
@filmautre 8 жыл бұрын
Stefan, how many weights do you use one each side with a C100 or C500? I can only balance it with 4 each side? do I need to extend the telescopic post in order to use less weights?
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 8 жыл бұрын
Hi FA, what do you mean with " if you have to extend the post? Of course you have to adjust the length of the centerpost to find you balance. When I handheld the Glidecam I extend far and put less weight on it, if I use the X10 west/arm I put as many plates I can to make it heavier. Cheers
@filmautre
@filmautre 8 жыл бұрын
+Stefan Czech interesting I never tried that before, is it possible to extend fully out then have just 2 weights each side?

Great Video, great Material. May I ask - what framerate are you usually working with? What is it about this mysterious cinematic 24 fps? When I walk a circle with lower framerates, the background doesn't look as smooth as in your videos . . .
@StefanCzech
@StefanCzech 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks NC. I use 25fps for normal shooting. At time of the Canon 5D MKII 30fps was possible. But 25fps in the PAL world region is good. 24fps makes only sense when you want to use it for cinema or cinematic Bluray. Cheers

A metabones adaptor on the GH4 will fix the crop and give full frame yes?
@GarretWeintrob
@GarretWeintrob 8 жыл бұрын
Not quite, it widens the lens by a factor of .71 or .64 depending on the version you buy. A .5x widening factor would be needed to convert it to a full frame. So it comes close, but is still a little bit cropped.
