Amazing, original same gun??

Agreed, the 30sf is an amazing firearm. One thing that stands out for me, it somehow has the softest felt recoil out of any 45 I’ve fired. Not sure of the logic behind it, knowing the weight & size would typically not agree, but feels great nonetheless. As far as carrying, that’s where I have found comfort in other models. Myself being a fairly large person, the thickness of the slide - was a tad too much for my liking.

I’m not sure if the mags are different with the newer models, but I tried this out, after reading this comment. For the life of me, I can’t squeeze the 10th round into the mag😂. Not the biggest deal though. I have a few compact (California XD model) mags, that are 10 rounders. The options leaves a slight gap at the bottom of the mag when inserted. But the discomfort just requires a little creating, using Talon grip tape around the exposed mag area.

The new Springfield 3.8 Elite 45acp comes with a ten round magazine the base pad is a little longer to hole that tenth round..

I have no affiliation with this company, but if interested in appendix carry, check out holsters from Shooter Industries. I am a big guy, and can comfortably appendix carry any of my firearms, even during long drives. If looking for the holster for the XDM, I found that the holster designed for XD 4” fits the XDM 45 compact like a glove. Just fair warning, be patient with the shipping. They take a while. But the price is very reasonable (around $30). Like many people, I have bought holsters ranging in prices, from extremely high, to low. These are the best by far. It may change your thoughts on carrying the XDM. My personal favorite of the options they offer - are the appendix holsters that include the claw (which holds the grip closer to your body when tightening your belt).

Unfortunately the 30S is not available in my area. California has a restriction on which firearms can be purchased

Within a different video I posted, I ended up purchasing a Glock 36. Finding that it had the same slide as the Glock 30s, I installed that slide to the Glock 30 frame. Went to the range, and it performed with the same Glock reliability we’d all expect. Upon my return, I called Glock, to ask about the mix. The man on the phone confirmed that this was exactly what Glock had done. They renamed it the 30s, but California wouldn’t accept it for the Roster. Definitely a shame. The mix generates an outstanding handgun

Most definitely. This firearm will never part from my hands. If I did let it go, I would definitely never see one again. Here in California we have a Roster of handguns we are allowed to purchase. The XDM doesn’t qualify. The only way an XDM can be purchased from a California resident, is through a Father, grandfather, or son (who reside in a different state). Or if luck is found, you can buy an off roster firearm from a Law Enforcement Officer, which ended up being the route I found success.

The XD 45 compact is one firearm I regret letting go. But after purchasing this XDM, I really didn’t find the need to continue owning the XD. But it is still missed nonetheless. It was an excellent shooter.

I am truly Jealous. I want the 10mm compact, but will sadly need to wait until I retire, and relocate out of California. The 10mm XDM compact is not available on the California roster. I was fortunate with the 45acp - by being in the right place at the right time. Consignment purchases of off roster handguns can be bought from an LEO, which of a rarity. This XDM was my once in a lifetime opportunity, so I jumped for it.

The SF is amazing. I regret removing it from my Conceal Carry rotation. After shooting for the first time in a while the other day, I fell in love with it all over again. It truly is an amazing shooter

@@californiahigh-desertconce7999 absolutely that's why I cannot take it out of my rotation and it seems to be the one I go to everyday LOL. Don't get me wrong I love all my other ones but this one is just so compact but it packs such a punch I'm not worried about anyting.

I’m glad they took care of you. Glocks are great running firearms, and extremely easy to work with. I had a recoil spring issue with another Glock I had, producing the same issue. Once I replaced the original guide rod - I haven’t had a hiccup since

Agreed. The XDM has been amazing, as far as reliability. But the Glock continues to fire as well. The one thing I do have to say, in regards to the Glock 30sf. The recoil is definitely one of the softest shooting 45’s I have fired. I imagine a lot has to do with the thick slide.

The 30sf is an amazing handgun. As funny as it sounds, it is one of the softest shooting 45 I’ve fired. Oddly enough, even shoots softer than the 21 (speaking from the generation 3 platform. And best of all, it is concealable.

I happened to be in Gun store at the same time an Officer was attempting to trade his XDM in for store credit. They couldn’t come to an agreed price. I stepped in, and asked how much he wanted. The moment he said $550 - I jumped on it.

Agreed. I just brought it out for the first time in months the other day. The felt recoil is noticeably smooth, when comparing to other 45’s I own. I had forgotten how great that firearm truly is.

Yes, since this time, I’ve seen different options. I’ve always known if the 13 round full size mag. But over recent months I had found the elite mag bottoms, which allow for one more round, making the XDM 10+1. In addition, it provides a full grip to handle, if people are not comfortable with the two finger grip

@californiahigh-desertconce7999 - Exactly, although I like glocks better, because they are proven by police forces nationwide. Furthermore, glocks are like ar's because there are just so many things you can modify from finding easy parts. Last but not least, the safety lever is like a 1911 on the Springfield xdm elite's, which brings comfort with one in the chamber for me

@Cabron444 yeah, I’m sort of a fan of both. Actually all guns for that matter. The only knock on Glock that I had, especially going for the Glock, 30, or the 29, is how thick it was inside the waist. I tend to appendix carry, so it left a little discomfort, compared to my others. I can’t attest though, both have fired thousands and thousands of rounds, and never failed me yet. I do agree, Glock definitely has the long track record.

I shot a 4.6 9mm XD-m, P30L and a G19, I chose the one I shot the best groups with. Which also was the best deal. Wanted that P30L, but it was 300 more, and needed a $200 trigger.

Yeah, but the 13 round mag is much more difficult to conceal. I’ve heard the newer XDM elite compact has a 10 round flush fit mag which would be great. But in order for it to fit on this models, a bit would stick out, knowing the standard XDM compact doesn’t have the Magwell added.

I have 9, 10, and 13 round mags for my G30s. All depends on what I’m wearing and how I’m carrying it. As with any gun, the bigger it is, the more it prints. I’ve owned both of these guns and they’re both fine weapons. No problems with either. I sold the SA because the G30s was the one I preferred to shoot and would pick up every day. Just fits my fat paws better but that’s different for everyone.

The G30 is an amazing firearm. I wasn’t too fond of the thickness of it while carrying, but the magazine options were nice. Although the XDM can provide the same magazine benefit, the one undeniable benefit of the G30 is the soft recoil. Out of all my firearms in 45 acp, the G30sf shoots extremely soft

Thank you for the reply. But I didn’t want to go into too much of the metallurgy aspects of each, knowing it may provide a loss of interest from a traditional gun review. Especially knowing we are talking about handguns. But for a better breakdown, the gen 3 Glock parts are made from 416 stainless steel, along with the barrel being 416r stainless. The Springfield XDM parts are made from Billet steel, which I believe in comparison is known to be a much stronger steel. The XDM 3.8” barrel is made from hammer forged 4140 steel. Which although both the stainless (Glock) barrel, and the (XDM) 4140 hammer forged barrels can provide benefits for one over the other, barring rust treatment needs for the XDM barrel requiring a bit more attention, in theory the 4140 forged barrel will produce longer life. The stainless barrel used in Glocks however, may produce better accuracy. But where that margin can be minimized, is knowing the XDM barrel has been cut to better tolerances, being a match grade barrel. However, with all that said, we are talking about handguns. The chance that an average shooter can shoot the parts out from either gun, the cost of the ammo needed, would make the subject irrelevant, knowing what that individual could likely afford. As far as the grip safety, I personally have not had any experiences with the failures I’ve read about in the past. But considering the design of the 1911 providing the same safety mechanism, and the longevity those handguns have provided over 100+ years, I haven’t felt any concern. At the end of the day, it’s about what the shooter enjoys more. Their are Glock fanatics, and their are Springfield fanatics. Whichever preference an individual has, they should feel confident they have a pistol that will likely pass through generations. With regards to contracts, that can be a suspect topic, which can be misleading at times. Many, if not all contracts are influence by money, and overall costs. It is a no brainer that Glocks provide less expensive parts, less parts, and the brainpower to bring one back to life, a competent 8 year old could piece one back together. Springfield, not so much. A good example of a handgun that had won the FBI contract for the Hostage Rescue Team, came down to being the Springfield HRT 1911. Manufacturing in mass quantity essentially granted Springfield the contract. But the gun that beat Springfield in nearly every category was the Les Baer S.R.P. However, keeping to the one Gun, one Smith mentality that has been the trademark for the Les Baer 1911’s, they admittedly could not keep up with the demands/requirements needed for the FBI. Another good example was the FBI switching from the 40 s$w ammo, back to the 9mm. When reading through the entire report, they clearly mention the bigger diameter bullet of the 40 was still greater than the 9mm. However, with the progress made over the years with the 9mm, it had developed enough to fit within the requirements needed to be an affective round. Again, justifying the savings in cost.

The original XD compact 45 offers a 10+1. This XD-m 45c was one of the first gen models, which came with a 9+1 round mag. I can fit the 10 round XD mag inside the XDM, but it leaves a little extra mag below the grip. From what I understand, the newer XDM 45c models offer the 10+1. But living here in CA, these things are difficult to confirm, due to the limited firearms we are approved to purchase. This particular model, I was fortunate to buy from a LEO. Which - to those unfamiliar with California law’s, their are two ways to purchase an off roster firearm. Buy from an LEO, or you can purchase through an intrafamilia transfer, which is buying from an immediate family member (Parent, Grandparent, or child). I had received a different comment a while ago, claiming to have seen the XDM models, equipped with 10 round magazines.

Everyone definitely has their preferences. I’m a fan of both. But I’d say overall - my heart belongs to the 1911 platform.

I don’t have experience having issues with either firearm. Both have been fed thousands of rounds, and have held up extremely well so far.

Out here in California, that is the only option we have. Unfortunately with what is known as the California roster, we are only allowed to buy Glock Generation 3 models. Their are ways to buy Gen 5’s used. But because they are such a rarity, they sell for extreme prices. A few weeks ago my local firearm store had a gen 5 on sale, priced at $2,100 - on a consignment deal. A week later it had been sold for $2,000. Although I do like Glock, I’d never pay that much for one.

You may want to research your comment, before going keyboard Commando Bud. The original flat plate XDM 45 acp 3.8” compact magazine is 9 rounds. If you are referring to the XD 45 compact, then that my friend would be a 10 round Magazine. But those are two different models, as you likely know. Can they both take the full size 13 round service model Mags with the proper grip extension for each model? Well yes - both can (assuming you fit the assigned grip extension to the chosen model). But hey, don’t just trust me. Go ahead and do a bit of research. You may learn a thing or two😉
