De, milk fat percentage will vary depending on breed and/or type such as liquid, powdered, condensed etc. You need to look at the label and do some calculations to figure the milk fat percentage unless you have your own milk goats and know what % their milk yields. Then you will need to calculate the milk fat percentage and take that percentage off the amount of milk you are using. As an example, if I add 14.30 ounces of milk and my milk fat percentage is 3.3 then 14.30 x 3.3 then I use .47 in the butterfat slot in the lye calculator. I've seen milk fat percentage at 3% and some at 3.5%. There is just a bit of math you need to do.

Thank you so much for all your videos. I have had problem with the sent I use in my soap weakening after the 4 week cure date. Is their any company you know of that carry fragrance oils & essential oils that still maintain their strong scent after the soap cures? I would really appreciate your help. This is the only thing holding me back from a great bar of soap.- Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi, I was wondering what brand of stick blender you have? Mine would have died about 20 minutes in.

1. (Amount of fat) x (Saponification value of the fat) = (Amount of lye) 2. (Amount of lye) ÷ 0.3 = (Total weight of Lye water solution) 3. (Total weight of lye water solution) - (Amount of lye) = (Amount of Water) Note: No trace will happened or longer time to have a trace if u continuous heating. or the solution goes wrong.

OK, it must only be me that was confused about how to plug in the butter fat or sub on the lye calculator. Are you putting in the amount of goat milk you're added, if not, how do you know how much fat is in the amount of milk? Say I'm using 7 oz of goat milk, would that be amount of butter fat plugged into the calculator? I've only made liquid soap once and it was using the glycerine method which traces so quickly. Bought Thaylor's book on LS and still unsure of what is really going on which I why I haven't made more. Thanks for any input or clarification on liquid soap making. De'

Thank you. I was wonder if it did anything other than just get thick. So, no color change or ph testing at this point. Good to know, thanks again, great video.

I would have let you! I won't be going bigger than this batch size. It was pushing my limit of endurance LOL! I think though, it might be time to utilize my son's new muscles and have him help. He is 13 and now bigger than I am.

Your liquid soap making is impressive and quite difficult. Please kindly tell me your measurements of the oils and quantities of lye solution.

Hi, The video got cut off on me at the end. Right after it cut off the solution thickened up to the point I could not use the stick blender any more. Your stick blender will not move at all. At that point it is ready to "cook". I cook mine in the oven at 200 degrees for about 14 hours total. Once the solution is translucent which is what you are seeing in the 2nd video then it is ready to dilute. I hope this helps you. Let me know if any other questions.

What kind of oils did you use? Would you share your recipe?

How do you know when it's ready, other than it getting thick? In the next video it's already paste.

It was pretty rough! I don't think I could go with a larger batch size than this. First, it just about killed my arm and thumb. Second, the stick blender really was straining. Today, I thought about using a squirrel cage mixer attached to a drill but am not sure that would work. Batch size was 144oz oil weight.

I was wondering, as I watched you, if you might have gotten a second blender and friend - would switching off work? Giving both you and the blender breaks? I'm in pain just watching this. The results (watched the second video too) look Amazing!! I really want to try making it - but I've gotten achy... so this looks equal parts magical and terrifying.

Nope! You are just mixing your batch to the point it is ready to cook. I check ph once I dilute and make any adjustments at that time. Much farther ahead in the process.

wowza ...that's allot of stick blending....you need a V8!

Is it just a terrible thing to use another type of mixer in this type of soap making - more of a beater for cakes etc? So we don’t blow up our stick blenders? It’s one thing bringing our cold process stops to trace, but geeze, running a stick blender for an hour or more is not what those little guys were built for.
