We are discussing why the length of the golf club is so important to a golfer. What are the advantages to having the proper club length and we give a recent example of club length.
Now not everyone will see the improvements that Matt did but you will see better performance assuming your club length is off.

It is the standard shaft that came on the Callaway Steelhead XR irons. True Temper XP 95 (ST15/S300).

Very good info on lie of club face going to Club Champion soon for fitting, present set is 2* up and constantly hit left of line, never feel confident on shots. Thanks again .

Cut a driver down from 45 to 44". Hitting the middle more often. Distance and accuracy both improved. Not trying to 'kill' the ball anymore. Relaxed grip, good tempo, and I feel like I'm swinging the entire club,and not just hoping to manipulate the head to hopefully find the ball.

facts, had a 47" driver, couldn't hit it for not...well first didn't even know the length. did this , did that, got great hits and then wham back to bs. long story short, not knowing nothing, got me nothing. knowing and learning a lil bit got me something. I now have a 11.5 cobra amp at 43.5 with a midsize built up grip, (that I will soon change to jumbo) Nnnn I smoke that thing 245 carry , cutting out slices, now I'm straight, draw, or catch a hook as my fault shot. I think a jumbo for my xlrg hands will give my right hand some more grip to work with and ease my turn over. we shall see.

Quick question, Jim... What is your preferred method for measuring proper length; based on height alone, based on height and wrist length, or do you have another trick?

John Gulyas I really don’t like estimating from length only. There are charts and mostly are conservative short. If a golfer is hitting fat try choking on the original club and checking for the quality of hitting

Hey Jim. I’m 5’-6” with a wrist to floor of 33 inches, which puts me at 1/2 inch short. based on GolfWorks info, a standard length driver is 45 inches, which puts me at 44.5 in. I’m moving into a Ping G400 LST Driver and Ping G400 fairway metals all with their Tour Shafts (65 S in the Driver and 75 S in the 3, 5 and 7 woods) Regarding the driver, the Ping Tour 65S shaft comes standard at 45.25 inches playing length So I need to trim 0.75 inches off the butt end to get me there. I know I have to add some weight (about 14 grams) to the head to keep the stock D4 SW. I plan on doing that with Ping’s heavier 13 gram weight plug and a small strip of lead tape. Doing that with the fairway metals too. (Without the lead tape) Also butt trimming 0.5 inches off the fairway metals My question is with the driver shaft, should I take off 0.75 inches from the butt end or have the tip trimmed 0.75 inches ? My club head speed with the driver is about 103-108 mph, with a smooth tempo. Never had my AOA measured but I’m assuming it’s +. My ball flight is typically high to very high, especially last year when I used an Aldila Rouge Max 65 S shaft in a Epic Subzero Head which is a mid-high launch/mid spin shaft By tip trimming 0.75 inches I’ve read that it puts the shaft closer to an X flex. Also, I understand that how you Release the club head (in addition to your swing speed) also plays a role in what flex you should use. Ie. bend Profile My main objective is too lower my ball flight, reduce back spin and get tighter dispersion. One option is for me to get 2 shafts, cut 0.75 from the butt end (adjust the SW) and tip trim 0.75 inches off the 2nd shaft and compare the ball flights. Only issue with this is I don’t have a shaft extractor to pull off the Ping adapter and Ill have to bring it to the pga superstore to tip trim. I understand without seeing my swing you can only pretty much give me a guesstimate, but based on the Ping Tour 65S shaft and my swing speed/tempo what would you recommend? Thanks Stephen

Stephen don't get to hooked up on SW. The fact you are smoother may allow for a lighter club in total weight and SW together. I would consider a 60g or less S flex option, cut it down to the desired length and then add weight to suit your feel.

McGolf Custom Clubs according to Ping’s website the Ping Tour 65 Stiff is a 61 gram shaft with a low-mid launch and the X-Stiff is 66 grams with a low launch Based on your recommendation the Stiff flex is the way to go. So I’m assuming you’re not recommending to tip trim it ?

I have wishon single length, its just simpler. I have one set up from gw to 5.

I have Pinhawk single length irons and hybrids ( Hireko Golf.com), so far I really like them, more consistent swing, distance a little different at either end of the set, pw slightly longer, 4 hybrid slightly shorter.

Matt, Single length is a great idea however most golfers cannot get over the lack of change. I have made many sets at single length, all have improved scores.

Is your store stationed in Indiana ? I am a new golfer and I have only woods at the moment and was looking into getting a driver. I'm 5'5 with short arms and want to get fitted just right for the right driver I'm wanting to purchase

.5 don't sound like much, but ten yards to a club is gravy. freeing up his dynamic through the impact zone swing. plus gets to work further from the fulcrum point, vs choking down closer to it

Agreed. I for one just can't get used to choking down on driver or fairway woods. I can do it on hybrids for a long bump and run, or with a wedge to control distance. Trying it with a full swing though just feels too weird.

Mike B ....right, and we shouldn't do it, unless it's for rescue or some control shot situation. but like someone told me, even in a car, you have to make seat and mirror adjustments to fit you, what and why you think you don't need to make club adjustments to fit you. that right there is what made the light come on. I played , well hacked for the longest and didn't even know one spec of my clubs. didn't even know how long my driver was, was just focused on it was a 10.5 driver and looked nice 😂😂😂😂

I can`t come for a fitting because I live in the UK. I`m 5ft 7In I play shorter irons but go standard on the driver...At my next fitting should I go an inch shorter?

Gary, most certainly have the driver checked. Length is also determined with swing plane, height etc. You may only need 1/2" change. You will be amazed at the quality of hit.

8th video I've watched that had yet to tell me exactly how to know what is the right length of club for ME.... ,UUUUUGH.... NEW golfer here.. Been looking to get in to it ever since a rejoice showed me some things at the driving range. Went from risky wiffing the ball, to a straight as an arrow 300 yard shot... The excitement of that killed the rest of my day. Have yet to have the opportunity to go back out. I've since been invited out again after almost 20 yrs being as we've lived on opposite sides of the country. Looking to buy some lightly used.Calloways, but need to know if they are the correct length for me. All these videos hint about it, but give no info on how to measure yourself..

You're doomed, unless you insist the fitter cuts your clubs to ADDRESS POSTURE. The outdated, erect body, wrist-to-ground sizing table is baseless. Try addressing the ball and sliding the hands to a comfortable place on the grip. You'll see 2-3 inches of grip outside the hands! Fitters will swear that's too much cut and you'll lose weight/distance. Who cares? You can't even make contact and are standing straight up at impact. Insist some guy in town cut your clubs to posture. The fitters are a table cult. If they realized better shots make more excited golfers, then the golfers would return and buy more accessories. They won't, though.

There are 3 key criteria that control shaft length, (1) perspective of the ball at address from body, (2) repeated centred strike, and (3) hands height at address, and hands height at impact, against lie angle, for a benchmark iron (usually 7iron). I preferred longer shafts for all from the standard stepped descending shaft lengths 1/4-1/2 inch. Lie angle needed adjusting though. Helps?

I got fitted and hit no better.. some days I am spot on and somedays I am not. - Its all in the head. No matter how you get fitted

You didnt say the main fking thing . How do you size someone for clubs? How can a human measure for some man made clubs to make it more simple? I have a tape measure and a body with arms too

There is static length measurement which is only a beginning to get one into the dynamic measuring which is what the golfer went through, based on height, arm length, stance, swing plane and even ball placement to a small extent all factor into defining length. No simple answer,

Jesus was born. He did at least one thing that we couldn’t do (without Him) as a child. He grew up, got disciples, then did some more stuff that we couldn’t do. He eventually got betrayed by one of His disciples, and He knew He was gonna be betrayed, then He got captured, and died for our sins on the cross. He came from Heaven to earth knowing He was gonna die. He did it knowing it was for our sins though, doing it because He loves us. He rose from that grave on the third day, defeating death and someday He’s gonna come back and defeat the devil.
