Trick to hang doors is leave the door in the frame while hanging it and shim hinge side and will close perfectly first time 🙂

Def leave in frame for initial placement. Also pull out hinge side screws one at time and sink long deck screw through hinge plate into wood frame makes frame rock solid! I sink my hinge side hard to jack stud since all weight is on hinge side.. then shim and space knob side. Also pull small screws from latch and slowly sink in strike plate.. makes safer from anyone ever trying to kick door. I did 17 in our last house w 6 panel solid pine and they held 10+ years. We moved but best way for heavy doors. Plastic shims shrink less too! You guys are doing amazing!!!!

Leave the door in the frame and use a large T Square in the top corners. Shim the sides of the frame level and screw off. Screw off one side at a time starting with the hinge side first.

Don’t forget to replace at least one screw in each hinge that is long enough to go into the 2x4 rough opening. Also shim behind each hinge. Use two opposing shims. One shim will twist the jam.

Hey Jeremey! Hope I spelled that right. I'm really impressed you got the other two doors installed without leaving the doors on. Shows how good you are at leveling, measuring and squaring stuff up. Heck I bet the first door would have worked also if it wasn't for that manufacturing defect. I love how ya'll are unafraid to try something new and let us all tag along. Great practice on this tiny home. Learning so many tricks to use on the big house build. Yes leaving the doors on is easier, but it's not the only way. You proved that, well done. Keep using that phrase "we'll make it work".. great attitude. Heck, that would make a good t-shirt slogan. Hang loose hand gesture on the back and that encouraging phrase. Of course adding ya'lls signature tool belt line with convenient snack pouches.. What a neat adventure... keep having fun!

Looks like the tips for hanging doors were covered by previous comments. The most important tip is to keep the door attached to the frame. I could not tell from the video if you had a block under the bottom of the frame. It should be thick enough to allow what ever you use for flooring to fit under the frame.

If not an Oscillating tool and a block to use as a guide will correct the mistake. I know it is usually 99%to late to fix errors in other people's videos but you might help the next guy.

Leave the door hung level the hinge side first shim it and pin it then for the top and the strike side use the reveal from the door.. leave the reveal a little bit to leave room for paint and swelling but always leave the door attached on prehing so you can keep checking the door as you shim it

@@GoodSimpleLiving the thing with this is the door acts like an squaring mechanism on all sides. I mean closed it fits perfect right, so you put in the shims and open and it opens right up. That first door just means the corner wasn't square with the corner of the door, so the door rubbed. I use KZfaq for every new thing I do in the house. Replaced door handle on the inside of our car and it probably would have cost 150 at shop. Got if done for 10% of that. I love youtube and I love you guys

Yes I agree Leave the door in frame. Shim the hinge side first. Dont shin latch side until you check that door closes even. Watch out for your door wind, take a string from top right to bottom left and top left to bottom right string should touch at intersection of both strings. Good luck once you get one door correct you'll be able to do the rest. Your homestead looks great

Awesome job guys! I’m also retired law enforcement. I served 24.5 years with Corrections, with my last 5 years in investigations and K9 Officer. I got to retire with my canine partner. My wife and I were on escrow in a place up in Idaho that fell through, small piece of land waterfront, no water, couldn’t drill. We are still looking. I want to move up there full time but my wife , for now, only wants a vacation cabin. It’s getting to be slim pickings up there. I’m looking at getting land and building but not sure how things would go up there.? Anyway, keep up the videos. Hopefully I’ll move up that way soon. 🇺🇸👍

Like how you guys just dive in and learn as you go. As a DIY'er I believe you can do it yourself and screw it up not just once, but twice and often 3 times, start all over, buy the materials again and still come out less expensively with a better final product than if you would have hired someone and you get the bonuses of pride of craftsmanship, a new experience, knowledge and some some great memories every time you walk past/through your creation.

You're doing a good job figuring it out as you go. You can get stucco paint that can make the walls look smoother or like a stucco job. Doors can be adjusted with shims or ever a piece of cardboard behind a hinge can make a door swing better. Retired from general construction so we've done it all. Still doing small jobs. What an amazing view 😍 ❤ of the landscape at the beginning of your video!! The Lady and the Tramp was just too hilarious 🤣!! I don't remember 🤣 😂 Lady biting though 😅!! You're really knocking those projects out making it closer to that home sweet home! Nice to see your daughter with grandpa and helping him ❤. It's nice 👌 that your parents stayed a little longer to help you with the electric but more importantly you can get your wiring done for your stove. I know that you will feel better about cooking and feeling more like 👍 😋 your getting 😋 That long awaited kitchen👌!! Your 👌 🔥 😋 😍 outdoor dining room looked great and everyone was so quiet and content eating ☺!! You two really did a fantastic 👏 ❤ 💕 job on the doors and the white really 😀 stood out! A job 👏 well done 👏 you're both deserving of a great big pat on the back!!! Loved the closing ❤ of the video with the skyline And the beautiful 😍 tall trees but the true 👍 awesomeness was the moon!!! Thanks 😊 again for always ❤ 💖 thinking of your viewers plus reminding us 🇺🇸 😀 you always 💙 ❤ have time for one another making it absolutely inspirational 👏!!!!!

You two are amazing! So much love between you at times, the air must send out vibes to everyone around you. Doors are a pain apparently though we had no problems when we built our first home. I thinks it's the prehung sets that are the problem.

Do a search here on KZfaq with the phrase This Old House. They have quite a few "How-to" videos (including one on hanging pre-hung doors) that could come in handy doing the big house and even the barndominium. Congratulations on getting as far as you have. Not many people these days would tackle what you're doing, not having done it before.

I’m sure you know by now to leave the door in the frame when installing but I couldn’t resist 🤣 enjoyed the video. Keep up the good work.
