GoPro Karma drone - pairing issue | Karma won't connect to controller

In this video i just show my problem with GoPro Karma Drone pairing issue that I recently started to have with my drone. Karma won't connect to the controller, I have problems with turning the drone off and stabilizer will not turn on just like the camera. I tested out 2 different batteries, 2 different controllers , different cameras I even tried to reboot the Karma controller to factory settings and unpair the drone as I tried my best to make the stabilizer work. To make matter worse both karma stabilizer work perfectly fine with both cameras in Karma Grip gimbal.
I flew that drone for almost 2 years and I never had any problems with it apart from some minor errors here and there.
Even after January 2020 after GoPro released a new firmware update for the drone on 13th january 2020 I was able to calibrate the compass and continue to fly untill recently when after some break when my drone was lying securely "in the close" i decided to fly it only to find out that Karma Drone won't connect to the controller. So i havent updated it with any new updates ever since 13th january 2020 with geomangetic firmware update.
I took my drone out just to see that stabilizer wont turn on and i couldnt turn off my drone. I tried multiple times with different stabilzier and battery/ camera and that drone will never pair itself with the controller anymore.
Currently I prepared this video as i was prepapring a video for GoPro customer support representatives to take a closer look at what might be the problem that I am receivng. I asked them that i know its a common problem and are they aware of the issue, they said that they are , but other than giving me any more information that could help they advised me to basically do some simple trubleshooting like disconnecting everything and connecting again and going into pairing mode if not they asked me for the video so here it goes.

I just talked to GoPro Support after they asked me to create a video like this. I sent them this one because you did such an awesome job documenting the issue. So then they say they can't fix the problem because it is an end of life product, though they acknowledge that they made a fix available for it a couple years ago. Apparently, they sent out an email saying that it had to be updated by a certain date. I never saw the email. I would like to work with others to organize a class action lawsuit on this. I have followed all the steps to update the camera and connected the controller to wifi and it updated to the latest version. But the drone itself won't update because it doesn't connect with the controller. Seems there are a lot of us that have Karma drones that are not working through no fault of our own. Are you interested in joining a class action lawsuit?

Right now u can only fix thw drone with a guy from frqnce called Luis Nobre , please seqrch for a facebook group broken karma drones etc u ahould find him there perhaps ge cam help u

Hi! I have been out of the country where I live for a couple of years due to Covid lockdown. And when I came back I had other issues but my Karma (!). Just got it out recently and due to my readings about end of lifecycle I immediately started to do something instead of trying first. I Just now I even got it to "lift off" without the rotors installed as I think there still is some calibration to do. but what I do not get done is to connect the controller to my wifi and thus the internet. I found that the software version of the controller or drone (I do not find the setting yet, where verion numbers are displayed) was 2.50.01, which I think is important at soem point. For now, I would only try to get some ideas about how to connect the controller to my wifi. direct to wifi does not work on the home network, unsurprisingly it does not connect to the range extender, and it also does not connect to the connection I set up through my mobile using tethering or Hotspot. does anybody have any ideas. a class action sounds like it makes a lot of sense after we have been left in the cold by GoPro.

U fortunately gopro abandoned their drone , but there is still.hope , join fb groups about fizing karma drone recently people discovered how yo fix it and with some luck you could send your drone to sb who can fix it for you

Hello! I would be happy to be part of a class action lawsuit against GoPro, thought about it myself. This is ridiculous! I paid thousands of dollars for my Karma drone and accessories and now it's nothing more than a paperweight. GoPro should do better or not sell things they plan on discontinuing use with no resolution! I did not receive any email either about needing to download by a certain date. Smh...

Had the same issue(s). Was able to fix the problem by resetting the controller to factory default. Restarted the controller and reconnected to WIFI and my GP account. Once the "new" set up was complete, the controller was seeking to pair with Karma. Put Karma into pair mode. Within 10 minutes the controller said to press the power button on Karma and it worked. Good luck

No luck for me i tried to reset it log in and out to my wifi and gopro account but no luck i even played with it without the stabilizer following David Gene movie on youtube but my unit doesnt behave like his. For now i only heard that reflashing the controller might be a solution people managed to reset it abd download the older firmware. But its not helpinf every one so no guarantee either. I havent testes this method due to lack of time.

I have the same problems with my Karma Drone. No help from GoPro regarding a solution. Very frustrating to have this lack of product service. Very expensive waste of money too. Interesting, while I was watching your video, two adverts for the Hero 10 popped up. I won’t be buying anymore GoPro products until they fix the Karma drone issues. GoPro need to get this sorted ASAP!

Good morning gentlemen, My name is Rogério I live in São Paulo Brazil and I would like to inform you that I am also going through the same difficulty with my drone it no longer works because it does not stabilize between the control and the drone. The review I have in control today is 2.50 I would like to thank the company GoPro because it managed to build and destroy the dream of a person in the same product. Now I have a very expensive paperweight that drone is of no use!

The same thing happened to me and in the same way, the camera and the karma stabilizer did not move, it did not turn off on the power button and I unpaired it and tried to pair it again and nothing. All this happened when I upgraded to 250.1. My girlfriend is a lawyer and I'm going to tell her to study the case because the gentlemen of gopro, I don't see them doing anything to solve it. I would like to work with others to organize a class action lawsuit on this. Is there any solution? I have the same problem since 1 year ago, but I realize that the problem becomes from updating the karma drone in my last connection to the controller, after that never worked again, I wrote too many times to GoPro, and they erase my public comments... It's a shame...

Hi, I am sorry for you and all the others have the not pairing issue, I would like to tell my case which might be related to your pairing problem, I have 2 Karma drones and both working fine until recently, one of them the camera and stabilizer are not responding after pushing the power button, exactly like the situation showed in your video, so what I deal with it is pulling out the battery and put it in and power on again, my experience the in-out cycle are sometimes one and sometimes 2,3,4 times..., when the camera and stabilizer are responding, it become normal. so my suggestion to you is just push the battery in and out until camera and stabilizer responding, otherwise nothing you can do either paring or other procedure. Hope the above can help.

Hey thank you for your suggestion , i will try it i also was suggested and even seen a video in which guybexplained its due to some condensation / humidity and in order to solve it is to dry the drone in the sun without battery etc perhaps sth got inside due to long storage etc might be u never know :/

previous of last update 2.25.1 of controller all working. Last mounth (about half may 2021) I decided to fly and I recived an udpdate that I did using my hotspot on iphone. After this update of the controller to 2.25.1 the drone was at first in the state "not connected", so after many reboot of controller and the drone (I begin to notice also the strange problem of no shutdown from button) I decided to unpair and pair it, after this I lost the contact of my drone for ever. I think it will not resolve until a new update, there will be n error on frequency

I have the same issue. I updated controller but could not update the core. I think remote update broke backwards compatibility. I tried all solutions but mine does not work. Actually my drone in the case for years. It never fly before. I tried to fly it and found not paring issue.

I heard 1 person did a hard reset on the co troller and it helped him after cou tles trials and errors perhaps its worth a try

No i hacebt some peoole suggested me to dry the drone in full sun , do dactoey reset etc but botgibg helped me

You should make him blink red without the stabilizer. After that, insert the stabilizer without the camera and wait for it to make a strange sound and die (apparently). After that, power off by holding button, insert the camera and power on. It should work, then update all drivers.

I tried to folloe the steps.of Gevim Gene running the drone witbout the stabilizer but i never had it blink a red light though and couldnt to it like him

I’ve been deali back and forth with GoPro support for months. They have replaced my stabilizer. Also my camera harness. And then after all that they replaced my core. I bought a new battery. It still does not work. Now they want me to send the stabilizer back and they are going to replace it again. I’ve been demanding a replacement of everything through all of this and getting very annoyed and impatient. I’m a GoPro plus member so they did replace all this for free. But still it does not work even with new everything it’s still same issue. Stabilizer stays limp and will not pair and it starts acting weird(will not turn off and sometimes flashes red) it’s very frustrating that GoPro has no answer for this or solution. I updated my controller recently and was hoping it was a fix but still no luck. GoPro needs to publicly announce they are aware and are working on the issue instead of acting like there is no issue.

I realize that this video is three years out of date,but the Karma problem appears to stem from their last update. The boot sequence has been corrupted. To correct, search on reconfiguring the boot order on KZfaq. It’s tedious but can be corrected by reprogramming the boot sequence. Hope this helps.

I still have the same problem. the drone cannot turn off by itself when it enters pairing mode. also the power button. have you found the solution finally?

You can try to reflash youŕ controller to older version before 2.5.01 and maybe thats gonna help you connect. I teied everything and nothing helped me personally and gopro never even bothered to reply and reach out.But its also hard fir me to co tact them as i lice in thailand so can only try when I am in europe for some time heh but no luck

my pairing issue is a "copy and past" of yours, many calls to gopro support, but it's seem the support is a like support of facade, and there is no private laboratory that has know how for this drone

based on the comments I think GoPro is not giving any support to the Karma... I bought mine 4 months before they discontinued it.. very sad about it. Any suggestion in what to do in this case?

I’ve just turned my drone on after a year of not using it and suddenly I have the same issue, has anyone found a solution or have they grounded the karma… I paid £1000 for this drone when it first was released surly they can’t just say oh we can’t help. It’s ridiculous if that the case I’m pulling away from GoPro full stop.

Unfortunately it se3ms they pull out the plug , u can try co tacring sipport but theu wont tell u much except for some basic info on how to reset drone and check if everything is connected or updated

Hi! I had a similar problem with my GoPro Karma Drone with the Hero6 a while ago...The only thing I did to solve this problem was to update the camera software separate from the Drone. I hope this can solve your problem. Now this Drone flies like bird.

I borrowed my brothers Karma/Hero6 and am running into the same problem. Drone only fully powers up about 1 in 10 attempts. I just got off the phone with GoPro support and they are sending me a new collar... the socket that the stabiliser plugs into on the drone. I'll report back after I've received/installed the part. Update as of Sept 23 2021. So no update about the replacement camera collar after almost 2 weeks so I asked them why. They said they were having availability problems but an hour later I go a UPS label notification and the part landed at UPS in my home city two days later. Then UPS messed up and it took them 5 days to deliver it. Anyway I have the collar. No instructions as promised but they did include a screwdriver. I replaced the collar and it did not fix the problem but the symptoms changed: So now the stabilizer activates but the controller keeps saying no camera connected. Tried reseating connections and no change. My GoPro Hero 6 does not show the drone symbol in its LCD display. At one point it just said USB connected. I still have to pull the battery to power down the drone. Hopefully there is some sort of reset procedure in the instructions they forgot to include. Waiting to hear back from GoPro. I'll post an update.

@@Tomasz.Nowacki Not with the help of GoPro. They have really cut back on support. The outsourced callcentre in Philippines is brutal. They have not been provisioned to support the Karma by GoPro. I was going backwards with them. They sent me a defective collar for the camera and a flakey drone body. No matter what they always made me send back the suspected defective module back (except the camera collar) before they would send me one that was even in worse shape. I even offered to give them collateral to my credit card to make sure that I good test the new module before I sent the other back. No way. I offered to pay for a fully tested replacement drone and no way. So I gave the drone to a local tech and he found USB C connectivity issues between the camera collar and down through the stabilizer to the core drone body among a few other quality issues. He managed to get it working again but buy then the leaves were all gone and I did a couple of test flights and packed it away for the winter. Even after they floundered for 7 weeks obviously ill equipped to deal with product quality problems on this scale (only basic user issues) and I lost the entire fall shooting season. He had no interest in making things right or better equipping the outsourcer!So now it sits in the storage case until next year. Not sure I could ever buy another GoPro product again. Someone needs to start a class action lawsuit with them. It's the perfect example of using an outsourcer to protect the company from the customer! I'm not going to stop escalating this.

@@Tomasz.Nowacki GoPro did a horrible disurviceto it's name by abondoning the GoPro as they did. So much for valuing customer loyaly.They are jusr taking advantage of the goodwill they earned in earlier years. It will catch up to them. There are better products out there now.

I am having the exact EXACT same problem. I tried everything. All I can figure is the firmware inside the drone is corrupted and needs to be updated hard-wired somehow in the same way it would be done at the factory. If anyone finds a solution to this problem that is solid please post.

Was able to get it working by taking the camera out of the drone and pairing it without the camera. Now to get passed the compass calibration issues

@@Tomasz.Nowacki When the camera was out, it paired on the 1st try. Then when I put the camera in, it took anywhere from 3-10 times starting up, pulling the battery when it wouldn't do anything, then starting it up again to get it to connect with the camera in. This was all fine, except when I went to test it out, I got it up in the air, was about 100 feet off the ground and flying around when all of a sudden it lost the compass calibration and started flying erratically. It took everything I could to get it back to my location, fighting the controls the whole way. When I was finally able to get it back to where I was, I had to crash it into the ground do get it to stop flying so wildly. Good thing I have some experience flying these things, otherwise it could have been much worse. Now the drone is grounded for the rest of the time I own it and will be sold for parts. I am sticking with my DJI that doesn't have all these problems.

@@Tomasz.Nowacki After a few tries, the stabilizer initiated. But like I mentioned, it would take turning the drone on and pulling the battery numerous times to get it to initiate. I feel like they aren't safe to fly anymore without the compass working properly.

You might want to visit this guys channel. He wants to start a class action lawsuit. I just provided him with information with other lawsuits against GoPro regarding the Karma.

I seen that guy managed to get a replacemnt for his core and it wirks for him for me its difficult as sending drone in in thailand is expensive :/ would need to take it back to europe

It's like the certificate expired or something like that. I have 5 karma, 3 go pro, 6 controllers, 10 stabilizer and 10 batteries, and was able to pair only one karma. I have made combinations with camera, stabilizer, controller and battery, nothing change, only one karma could be paired. The stabilizer don't 'initiate' in all others, like it's dead or not connected. I will try more.

I think the most likely thing that those of gopro did was to program the obsolescence of the product considering its unreliability and consequently dangerousness for things and people, so we will never see others fly ... goodbye Karma ps I also have dowgraded the controller and tried to pair to core with the prevoiusly firmware of controller, but nothing has changed for pairing issue. Anyway they permit the dowonload of the firmware without explain how to use it.

Until a week ago my karma drone was working fine. However, he began to signal a compass error. I tried to update the controller to the latest version and it failed (2.50.1) and then, it stopped pairing with the drone. I am really sad, I have tried everything and nothing has been successful.

The same.for me , nothing been successful butnin my case i updated the drone to 2.50.1 around 13 jan 2020 and it worked fine , then half a year lates it was not

Just ran across this issue yesterday and GoPro support is pretty much trash. They know the core is bad, but they won't do anything about it.

Yes i asked about it on fb forums and people say exactly the same there is no official fix , still cobtacted gopro and will see what their respobse gonna be

This is absolutely garbage. Treat your equipment with care, follow guidelines and spend thousands of dollars for GoPro to release an update that breaks everything. Then simply disregard it. Unbelievable.

Its basically what happened. I took care of my Karma all the time and never had a crash , landing softly by myseld etc and then one dat it just stops working

U can try reflashing your cobtroller to previous version but it didnt help me personally

I have solved the connection problem today after few months of trying and trying. I hard reset using the controller buttons. now the drone camera and grip is updated with latest updates. Now flying as it should be.

How did you do a hard reset ? I remember i restored to factory settings and i think i held power button for 8 seconds

@@superstar1980 hold the power button for 8 seconds i think this should do a hard reset, also try to bring your remote to factory settings maybe it gonna help for you. Try a couple of times, for me it didnt work but some person in the comments told me thats what worked for him

I think GoPro is not supporting Karma anymore. Ha they can’t even support the Hero 9.

i tried calling them for support, them got me going in circles and keeps saying that since i bought it back 2018 that it no longer under warranty and that there is nothing they can do except give me 25% GoPro gear. I spent over $1,200 in GoPro gear back when i first bought it, if that's how they handle there product support. then that is the last time i buy any GoPro gear EVER. #gopro #goprofail
