GoPro Karma Pairing Issue Fix

Here is the process that Surgey has discovered that will fix the pairing issue if it is related to a fault Boot Loader. There is a lot of information provided but I believe that it is all relevant to the process and should be taken into consideration.

These are the commands that are used within Putty
At the login prompt use the login name root
insmod /opt/sentinel/modules/mtd_write_enable.ko
dd-new if=/dev/mtdblock0 of=/home/backup/mtdblock0.bin conv=sync,noerror status=progress
flash_eraseall /dev/mtd0
nandwrite -p /dev/mtd0 /home/orig/mtdblock0.bin
I have also included the invite for Discord which can be used to ask question and obtain other information. It also has a sales section for parts as well as broken and working Karmas. It includes a section when people can let you know (hopefully with Country and state details) that they can carry out the process for you (assumption is that it will be for a fee).

Could you please specify the 1K resistor that was used in this video? I'm not familiar with electronic components. When I was looking for the 1K resistor, it appeared with wattage. Which one should I pick? the 1K with 1/4W, 1W, or 2W? Thank you for sharing btw. I got this issue and can't fly it for almost 3 years.

personally it looks like the bootloader is broken at a software level. Hence write a fresh one back it resolves the issue.

Hello thanks for the educational videos you've been putting out. I've watched this video several times and I'm not understanding the adding of the SD card port. I don't see you ever put a card in there. do you put a card in there? My drone has that Port I noticed that years ago and thought that was a possible software update sd port.

@@bozmanx thanks for the tip I have watched all of your videos I'm pretty much got to understanding of what's going on. Managed to get one of my karma's up and going without doing any of this the other night. My other one though I am pretty confident it's issue is a software issue. Mine all have SD card slots on them already which is a plus. I just got my resistors yesterday in the mail that's the last of what I needed so I'll be attempting this in the next. Thank you so much for taking the time to share this information a lot of us are very frustrated..

My Karma died the same way , funny thing is my Yuneec Typhoon H died with the exact same symptoms as the karma shortly afterwards like it had lost its memory , even down to having to pull the battery to shutdown , I wonder if they both use a similar operating system ?

If you watched the full video it should be fairly clear. This video is specific to fixing the pairing issue when you have the broken boot loader. The following are the symptoms for the pairing issue, Drones power light is white, gimble doesn't move, can't power off with the drones power button.

Can I use about any USB to serial adapter (cable or board) as long as it has TX, RX and GND?

yes, I have not seen one it doesnt work on. If it doesnt its normally a driver issue or one of the other well known issues. You can get more on these and or ask questions specific to any problems you have on the discord channel

The process is still the same you just dont need to solder a SD card slot on to your board or make a board to boot off.

The small resistor that makes contact with the probe is coated with something to make it waterproof, but how do I remove it? (I scraped too much off. Is there a way to melt it?) Also, can all LINUX commands and text be changed using the provided SD image file?

It is called underfill, you should carefully scrape it off until you can see the resistor

there is one in the drone but not all of them have a micro SD card slot on them.

I own two aircraft that have stopped flying after updating the firmware on the aircraft (the stabilizer does not work, the power switch LED sometimes blinks and does not stop). I tried booting from the SD card on these two machines, but there was no change at all on one machine. Both machines are in the same condition, but why doesn't one of them even boot into SD? It's quite difficult.

I booted it from the SD card and got to the point where I was reading the uImage file, but a reading error occurred with the fatload command and it stopped at the u-boot command prompt. Also, I'm concerned that file format information such as FAT is not displayed using the mmcinfo command. It's quite difficult.

Whats the point of teh sd card to the right of the contraption if you only needed the left setup to cknnect direct to pc?

Because the OS on the drone has not booted you cant type any commands into putty that is connected to the UART. Once you boot off the SD card there is then a OS loaded and you can run commands.

If it continually tries to boot from nand then your not triggering the SD card boot. make sure you have 3.3 volts on your probe and that you are connecting to the TP1 test point, it might be worth watching this video kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ZpulpNOBvtSxl2w.html

Hey I love the video! I just don’t have the time to do this. I am experiencing the same issue and have exhausted every single option between software and contacting go pro and every other video on KZfaq in attempts to remedy the issue.
