The silence after “it’s not full auto cut” says it all lmao. What’s the point of the lower if you skip The most important feature. They claimed they wanted to create a BETTER design for support weapons that allowing more reliable magazines but internally they chose to limit rate of fire. I also feel like they should’ve made the Standard magazine feature built-in. Even if it added a few additional parts and size being able to slide a button that pushes the polymer into place would be more user-friendly than needing to keep two random polymer pieces in your pocket to utilize standard magazines

I like it and it mostly solves the reliability problems with quad mags. I will not personally be adopting this system but if I was rich I would probably get at least one. I did catch the D60s on sale a couple of years ago and got 2 of those and I think they are pretty awesome. The biggest problem with the D60s is that they are more difficult to carry, I think someone needs to make some carriers that are specifically made for them. What I have decided for a use case on them is to just keep one in the rifle and then have several regular pmags for reloads. In almost any extremely unlikely scenario that I might potentially encounter, a single D60 will be enough. If not then I can stuff a couple of pmags in both back pockets, which has me with 120 rounds within about 5 seconds of preparation without any special carriers. I'm not crazy about the price of the binary style triggers but I think they are pretty amazing considering you have to be rich to have a full auto. That is something that I may eventually budget for. The bump stocks are kind of a stupid novelty, but the binary type triggers are actually useful I think because you can maintain accuracy.

On the AR-15 rifle the magazine feed lips contact the upper receiver which functions as an excellent over insertion stop.

I secured several 60 rn mags by Surefire several years ago. Best high cap mags I’ve found. Their 100 rounder is is well worth the money. None of them are cheap.

Just a thought, but maybe they need to make adapters that bolt directly to the 30rd pmags instead of the magwell... include one with each 53 round mag at purchase but also sell them individually. End user doesn't have to modify lower to run the mags they already have. I don't know a single person that has an AR but doesn't have pmags, and at $8 each its kind of a no brainer.

I like the idea that if I really want it, it's available. I've toyed with the LMG AR idea in the past. This could be a good option for that. Ultimately I would only buy it for that though.

30 vs 53 sounds like a big difference until you realize that 45 mags exist and aren't that much more cumbersome. From 45 to 53 there is an 8 rnd difference, it's just not worth it considering you'll need a new lower and full magazine loadout apart from less reliability and proprietary parts.

I really want this since halving mag changes is a real, tactical advantage, even without full auto capability. My disappointment is in the current reliability and the poor solution for standard mags. It seems like their target audience are police departments which will only need to worry about mag interchangeability with other policemen. For me, I'd want instant mag compatibility with any AR system.

I felt in theory if this was applied to the m27iar it would be nice, but I think it complicates things for logistics and other reasons but your set up is pretty cool

Ok for all the fuss and muss (without, we’d end up with stagnated technology AND no competition making manufacturers become complacent with their sub par products) my ethos is: 1: never pay for a mag extension that costs more than a mag itself…I:e; pmag 30 is anywhere from $10-$20…and 2: don’t pay exorbitant amounts for untested, gimmicky hi cap mags. My personal solution is pmag 40…$17.99 @ lgs…and strike industries “E.M.P.” which is a +5 extension for pmag gen 3 (which the pmag 40 IS). For a total of $9.99. So in completion my 45rnd mags are $25-$30. And feed consistently. 2 items of note…fully loaded are HEAVY! And obviously adding length to an already long 40rnd “stick” mag. I’m considering the pmag 60 drum but heard it’s a pain in the @ss to load and not 100% reliable. And at $100…I can have 3 of my 45 setups, and if I use a coupler…have 90 on weapon.

It's cool, but I don't see it's practicality. It's as thick as 2 30 round mags, but only holds 53 rounds. Because it's thicc you HAVE to have deep pouches on your lbv/carrier. I mean, it's not as chonky as a D60...but, for the fantasy firefight where you need to dump mags, you'd probably be better off running a D60 in your gun, and just carrying 30s on body. If you're still in it after 60 rounds, you're probably more worried about breaking contact( if alone), or helping a buddy flank around. Either way, I love the content. Gonna use you next time I get optics.

Really thurough coverage of the Q mag, most ive seen to date. Unfortunately, it still hasnt laid to rest my biggest esoteric curiosity of the Quattro: Will it 458 SOCOM? Probably not, but I might have to grab one and fiddle with it one day

The concept is great. Too bad Desert Tech doesn't deliver on their promises well. I pre-ordered one. After exceptionally long delay, I received mine only to find it was the single worst lower I've ever gotten. And I've purchased some real trash in the past that required some machining to make function. Imagine my disappointment when my $30 Andersons are perfect, the nearly $300 DT had trigger pin holes 5 thou too big and safety holes located incorrectly. And they signed it as QC inspected! Sent it back as RMA a month ago and have received zero communications since.

The problems you’re having seem to be problems that should have been recognized and corrected before distribution…… Then again, consider how they went about developing their mdrx.

Everyone complaining about the full-auto cut when you can't legally make it full-auto unless you're an SOT and you should have the equipment and know-how for that already. DT didn't want to get in trouble with the ATF, and you know they have a full-auto version for sale to gov't agencies under a separate SKU and pricepoint. And if you can afford a registered DIAS or whatever, you can afford to have someone mill the lower for you.

My one question is can you load larger rounds like .458 SOCOM into it?

A few things.. So you're saying the Qmags have "restricted for patriot use only" and the damn lower isn't even fa cut!? 🤡Also it seems the mags weeble and wobble, but don't drop free? Flared magwell that's also rather pointless because of double to single mag design.. I have 3 sets of 42rd Promags that are coupled together for fast changes, they still fit in my clamshell and bsg kydex mag holders (one obviously hangs out), and that's 252rd.. Sure you gotta swap 'em and you can't go as low prone.. But they cost me all of $75. Thanks for the honest review!

I feel like you normally do a really good job of reviewing and give things a fair shake. However, you missed the mark here. Your bias, being friends with someone at desert tech is on full display here. This is a dumb product, it will be a failure, and in 10 years people will wonder why it was ever made to begin with. John Patton from TCG has given the only honest review of this thing I've seen yet. I quite like your channel and style most of the time man, I really do. But I highly recommend moving forward, you avoid reviewing desert tech products due to your inability to be objective when looking at them
