Recession is often the result of external factors, and it appears that the United States is losing its grip as a federal reserve currency. With a decreasing ability to control inflation and a reduction in stocks and oil trading, it seems that a new multilateral world order is on the horizon.

It's important to keep in mind that investing is a zero-sum game with both good and bad days. However, by spending and investing wisely and diversifying your holdings, you can minimize risks and maximize gains. Hiring a knowledgeable investment advisor with a wide range of options can help you achieve this and leave little room for regrets.

It is a government inspired crisis this time. The Treasury have to sell Bonds to cover the trade imbalance and the government spending imbalance. In order to sell them they have to raise interest rates and the old long-term, low risk, low interest, AAA investments (including Treasury Bonds), held by the banks (often due to government regulatory policy), become next to worthless. The next milestone is the 15th when the government issue a new batch of Bonds. I have approximately 350k stagnant in my portfolio that needs growth. What is the best way to take advantage of this downturn?

Bankruptcy is a legal process that individuals or businesses can undergo when they are unable to repay their debts. It provides a framework for financial relief and a fresh start. There are different types of bankruptcy, such as Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 in the United States, each with its own rules and implications. Bankruptcy can have long-term effects on one's credit and financial standing, so it's essential to carefully consider the decision and seek professional advice when facing overwhelming debt.

Peter is correct. And yes, people have been talking about this since the US abandoned any sort of backing for their currency in 1971. $34T debt, $200T in unfunded promises and $2T/year in additional red ink. Debt is finite and it will most certainly collapse into violence, chaos and financial ruin. I would say we’re much closer to the end than the beginning. They had PLENTY to say about those difficult days and I listened very carefully to what they had to say. Because of that I always lived below my means, worked hard, saved religiously, spent carefully, and invested as wisely as I could. Because of their gifts of knowledge, I never lived paycheck to paycheck. Also never had a budget. I just spent what I needed to have a decent but not a luxurious life. Thanks to all that, I retired at age 55 in 2004 and have been enjoying retirement since then. Not having any debt really helps in retirement. As for our country, it will take a miracle to extricate us from the coming disaster that their financial irresponsibility and incompetence has created for us all.

Peter has been doing a great job of the highlighting the loss of manufacturing and productive capacity in the US as a result of the fiat currency system, but simply "reducing regulations" will be no where near enough to allow the US to compete again, the tax burden on manufacturing must be dramatically lowered as well.

I don't hear many citizens getting on board with cuts to Medicare, Defense, and the Welfare System. We do need a balanced budget amendment that can not be trashed anytime a "crisis" comes along. We are in a financial crisis of debt right now and unfortunately no active politicians are providing meaningful solutions and efforts to address it.

Cuts to medicaid, not medicare, no cap on social security income deductions, cap on qualifications on social security paymentsbased on assets and income, Wall Street tax exemption repeal, 70% reduction in all foreign aid, 80% reduction in foreign military bases, repeal of laws regarding refugees and illegals (aka deport them all with 0 benefits), and an individual flat tax with the first $20,000 exempt.

Can kicking is why they are in power and to heck with anything else. Sad, but true.

📉 The US government's excessive spending and borrowing is leading to inflation and bankruptcy. 00:33 Government spending is being financed by deficits, leading to inflation. The US government is bankrupt and relies on borrowing to pay its bills. The Federal Reserve's low interest rates have facilitated reckless borrowing and spending. 💰 China's support is crucial for the US economy, but decoupling is inevitable and could lead to collapse. 02:40 China is both the biggest supplier and banker for the US. The US is losing support from China and decoupling is driven by Chinese interests. The US needs to reduce government burden, deregulate, and cut spending to mitigate the dangers.

@@Arjava. When a fiat currency becomes over-printed, it's value declines. If it declines far enough, people will lose faith in it as a currency / store of value. When, not if, that happens, the currency becomes not just worth less but worthless. At that point it does not matter how much of it is created because no one wants it. Unfortunately, very few people can resist the urge to spend more than they have, so over-printing is virtually inevitable. Perhaps this is a large contributing factor to nearly 4,000 fiat currencies ceasing to exist?

America is currently plagued by the hydra-headed evil duo of inflation and recession. The worst part about this recession is that consumers are racking up credit card debt. In April alone, credit card debt went up 20% while rates have doubled in a year. Inflation is so high that consumers are literally taking debt for basic life necessities. Collapse has indeed begun..
