Q4 2024 realistically means that these won't be touchable until Q2 2025 at the earliest for most people. Prices will be bloated for months, especially with AMD stating they won't be competing at the deep end of the pool any longer.

The upscaler quality setting shouldn't be named. Just a slider from min to max. Say 25% min then 5% increments up to 95%. Would greatly simplify things. Perhaps with upscaling becoming part of DirectX that might happen.

DirectSR just makes it easy to integrate upscaling from vendors. They will not going to make changes to the upscaling tech from respective IHV

FSR does actually support any resolution scale you want, you can see that in Starfield, but most games just decide to use the preset names. Idk I guess branding reasons or something

Nah it should be standarized so Intel doesn't pull BS by naming their stuff whatever and then changing the baseline scaling under the hood so that suddenly they always get better performance when nothing has changed.

People saying to wait for the next generation of GPU's to buy will constantly say this. The GPU's release so frequently so if you wait a month or two more then it's "too late" for optimal price. I think it's better to just get a GPU when the price hits where you're comfortable paying for it.

I waited the 30 generation til prices become better but they didn't til 40 generation and 40 generation I thought 'lets go 4080 super with 20gb vram' but nvidia was like: naaaa Now I'm thinking... Do I get a better deal with the 5080 or just 15% more performance and 16gb vram...

I just got a 4070Ti Super today, upgrading from 3070. Honestly for what I want, which is 4K path tracing, I should've waited for 5090. But 4090 is already too expensive for me so there's no point in waiting. And 5080 will probably at best match the 4090 which will also be quite a bit expensive and we all know 4090 can become a 1080p card in 4K path tracing so... Oh and by that time games will have even more demanding path tracing (see the video where Digital Foundry mentions how Alan Wake 2 isn't fully path traced) so the new cards will become unimpressive once again.

Yes, but we have a unique case incoming this year where AMD's new mid-range will strongly compete on price and bring 4080 and below pricing plummeting... Anyone thinking of buying now stands to lose a large amount of value of their purchase very quickly. If you have to purchase a card right now, I'd say the 7900 GRE is the strongest hedge against this devaluation.

The 3060 is the most popular current GPU with 12gb Vram, it's way more superior despite not having frame generation

GDDR7 has a 3GB module specification (probably Nvidia crammed that down JEDECs throat) so 12GB on a 128 bit bus is possible. But unless GDDR7 hits 24Gbps right out of the gate, yeah, the 5060 is going to be a disappointing uplift over the 4060 (The 4060 runs 17Gbps memory, so 24Gbps would be a ~41% uplift).

This was happening to many with Horizon Forbidden West. I had it numerous times myself that I was running out of video memory on my 13900k/4090 combo with 64gb DDR5. Sometimes a reboot would help, I eventually made a custom page file size increase, and increased the shader cache size in the control panel, and while I'm not sure if that fixed it or the latest Horizon patch did as stability and crashes are now not happening at all, I seem to be having no issues anymore currently. There was also XMP issues leading to crashes which was resolved through a BIOS update. So while I'm not sure this warrants returning a CPU for, or perhaps a patch is needed on the software side, or software based configuration modifications. I did notice that almost all of the people having the out of video issue on Horizon Forbidden West were either 13900k/14900k (ironically) when I was looking up solutions to this issue. It seemed to be tied to poor shader compilation though from as far as I can tell. Who knows, never thought to blame the CPU though.

5090 is going to cost an arm and a leg because Nvidia know they have that entire segment to themselves because of a lack of competition from AMD. If the performance gap between the 5090 and 5080 is that big, it leaves the gap for a 5080 Ti down the line I guess.

I'm also experiencing this issue. Was surprised when i saw how many people with my set up were having the same issue. 13900k with a 4090. The page file trick seems to have resolved it for me.

I built my 14900K in November, and issues have slowly progressed over time. I managed to find a Reddit post linking the issues to poor default BIOS settings (ASUS mb). I've tried setting limits but I'm still getting BSODs and app crashes. I don't know why there isn't more coverage on this, or higher priority with Intel and motherboard manufacturers. Seriously getting ready to RMA this cpu.

What clockspeed and voltage is your CPU running at? I've had a 13900k running at 5.8p/4.5e/5.0ring with 1.36v bios set with LLC6 (MSI) since November 2022 and I play Tekken 8 everyday without issue. Get Tekken 8 demo and HWinfo64. Launch the game and see what clockspeed, voltage, temp, and power draw your CPU uses. If you're hitting 1.4v+ and 350w+, then you likely have issues with your bios settings.

@@jjlw2378 That's the thing though.. I'm not an overclocker. At first, it was set to default settings with only XMP turned on. Things were awesome at first, then degenerated from December starting with out of video memory issues to BSODs, computer shutdowns. I've followed that Reddit post, changed settings based on my HWinfo64 findings. It shouldn't be this difficult to run it at default. I have an Asus mb btw.

its your RAM. Take out and run just ONE stick. If crash, swap to other stick. If no issues, problem solved. God bless.

Can confirm on Asus Strix encore z790 and EVGA dark z690…. My 14900k and 12900K started having crashes during battlefield shader compilation even with xmp off and Hynix memory. Both with similar issues overtime… I changed both CPUs and stable for 1 month now

I have been trying to fix a random latency issue that popped up on my system (even just while just simply browsing) within the last couple of weeks and I have been trying to track it down. I've figured out it isn't my graphic card but I think it may have been some recent update with windows that caused the issue with Intel CPUs. I DID buy my 13th gen day one so there also could be some credence to the idea of it being more of a mass issue happening with day one owners over time though. I have more than adequate cooling and haven't been over clocking.

WOLED for gaming monitor, QDOLED for your bigger 4k monitor/tv for single player games. IDK how true it is but I've heard that although QD OLED has slightly more contrasty colors with a gloss finish, WOLED has more pure whites and retains inky blacks with a lit room with the extra white led it has. The glossy QD OLEDs IMO look best but only in a dark room which I am not in 80-90% of the time else they look worse than a high end IPS in a decently lit room. I personally have been using LG's 1440p 240hz 27gr95qe for a month now and it has been fantastic.

I have an 13700K and i do have this issue from time to time, a few new games i played said out of video memory(24GB) no matter what, i then need to restart my system and hope it works on the next launch. But i doubt its the CPU.

So it will be like with 40 series again. Only the top card will have significant leap and the more we go down the line with lower tier GPUs the less of an improvement they will be over previous gen.

I prefer the percentage for up scaling or just resolution. Nvidia has percentage on the GeForce app. And some games, like HL just explicitly state the resolution its been upscale from. Ugh, I was looking to get another SSD in a few months. Matte vs glossy, on an OLED. For me. Glossy. I already prefered glossy on LCDs. But in the case of OLEDs even more. Unless it is a minimal, near nonexistance matte. The effect of matte made so that you might as well have a good VA panel. I've seem some VA panels who's blacks look almost pure black. And the local dimming can handle most HDR situations well. An OLED depending on the matte cover it has, might cause some blooming on certain situations that might take away what should've been a perfect on/off contrast between pixels. The balck won't look as black, colors also take a hit. While you still suffer from potential burn in and lower full brightness. I don't know, I think if you could settle for an matte OLED, you could be fine with VA and save money. As for the light reflecting. Why would you put your display were the light is problem. If the point of these display is how immersive they are. Then what, are you playing or watching movies with the lights on or by the window with all the distractions? I don't get it.

@@keerthan7558 SSDs are a very good example! Ignoring the VERY RECENT price hikes for SSDs... 3 years ago the same 500 GB SDD costs now around half. Or, for the same money, you get DOUBLE the capacity now. Why isn't it the same for GPUs? Dafuq is wrong with this market?

Nvidia doesn't want our money. It looks like only 5090 gains the performance boost. Compared to 4000 series, 5080 is 15% as fast, 5060 might be 7% as fast. It makes no sense to upgrade for budget GPU. I know people who still use GTX 1070.

Love what intel is doing with the XeSS update, both in terms of scaling options (The new version of Performance seems to upscale 1440p's quality mode up to 4k, something I've looked to do on demanding titles with my 6700xt. 720p is simply too far of a reach, but you can get a soft, but passable image of 1440p Quality upscaling then RSR'd to 4K, depending on the title with my current viewing distance), and in terms of actual upscaling itself. Really I wish they'd just give us a percentage or resolution slider on all games so we could just input whatever resolution we'd want and have it upscaled to our monitor resolution. For all that Starfield got wrong technically, that part is actually pretty good. Same with Tekken and their TSR option.

Depends on your current gpu. If you have 16series or below, this ll be a great performance boost. If you are on mid to high end 3000series it doesnt make that much sense

The article about the 5000 series speculate the cards will be 'unveiled' in Q4, if that's the case the launch will most likely still be in (early) 2025. If you want a GPU buy one now, especially if you want a 16gb Nvidia card. Nvidia wants to up-sell you to the highest tier possible so the 5000 series will be the same as the 4000 series: 5060 class cards will be terrible/bad to up-sell to the 70 class 5070 class cards will be fine/good but won't have enough VRam (less than 16gb) for it's performance to up-sell you to the 80 class 5080 class cards will have barely enough VRam (16gb) and it'll be massively overpriced to up-sell you to the 5090 which (so far) seems a lot faster than the 5080 because: if you're already willing to pay 1200-1400$ for a 5080 you won't mind paying 1800-2000$ for the 5090 when you get 70+% more performance....

Regarding "Intel" , would be interesting im "Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling" is on. This causes crashes on all Systems with UE4. Even on my 12400f. Also interesting would be if its still happening on 4090 and 7900xtx with 24gb vram.

i'd say when reviewing and comparing gpu's and upscalers, use like for like based on the settings name. if xess wants more performance vs image quality so be it. the normal user is gonna set it based on its name and may not know or care whats going on under the hood

I am using DLSS 3.7.0 Balanced in Cyberpunk at 4K max. settings plus 300 mods, texture replacers etc., and it looks extremely close to 4k native, absolutely worth it to patch in the newer dlss versions... I do not use framegen, still not a fan of this feature... But Ray Reconstruction and Upscaling never looked better.

Horizon Forbidden West and The Last of Us Part 1 look amazing at 4K/Max. Soon Ghost of Tsushima will be released on PC, which is a very beautiful game as well. All of them offer very entertaining gameplay and decent storylines. A Plague Tale 2 and Alan Wake 2 are also great games. And Hellblade 2 will be released soon. These are just a few decent games I could remember, but I am sure there are more.

As for the high end Intel cpu problem. Its true, had that exact problem with the vram error and PC crashing in most games becuase of it. I have a 4090 its not due to lack of vram 🤣. Replaced the cpu and so far it works great.

Regarding the 13th generation, yes, there were 3 faulty processors, I heard about this from some bloggers, there really could be something wrong with the silicon, but more often does the memory controller fail? . + there is some delay. Yes, I have seen such stories, and I don’t presume to judge them. There is not much information yet. Or maybe Intel has some problems with binning? Who the hell knows. Well, for now, why the hell buy anything. Let others test it, although I admit that one PC still has 13700k installed. There are another 11,700 and another 12,700k.

There's also speculation that the 13th and 14th Gen CPU's are degrading from how hard they're being pushed out of the box, especially if you don't disable the things mobo manufacturers are doing to push them even a little harder. But if that were the case, I would think that 12th Gen would also being having these issues as well.

12th gen isn't pushed nearly as stupid hard as 13/14th. I'm not saying they're aren't giving 12th gen a good whipping, but 13/14th gen has some seriously alarming high limits for thermal throttling.

Nvidia and Amd have Changed MSRPs. I think Nvidia will give the Rtx 5000 series about 20-40% perf Uplift, But with the New Msrp Prices. So 5080 would be about 1000-1200$. And like the 5060 would be like $350 and same for the Other Cards.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. I got a 14700k and even with a good mobo, contact frame, delid and 360 AIO, if you run it stock and don't tweak voltages and power limits, it's ridiculously hot and power hungry. I don't recommend i7's or i9's if you run it stock, it's just insane. Performance is very good but it took me like 1 week of tweaking and benchmarking to tone it down and be happy with it. I've been actually thinking of returning it too and settle for an i5. Edit: I should add that i'm not talking strictly about gaming workloads since these are light for this cpu unless you want to push 6ghz or something like that. At stock settings, gaming workloads should pose no problem to a 360 AIO if the mobo adaptive voltage doesn't go nuts.

I have a 13700k running completely stock. MSI WIFI Pro mobo, LS720 360aio, contact frame, and it idles at 18-21C. Is there really that much of a heat difference from 13th to 14th gen? I mean even under gaming load it hits 50c then my fan curve kicks in and it's down to 45c instantly. The only time I've seen it hit 60c was during benchmarking. @adriancioroianu1704

@@Bigtymer781 Yeah, with default stock settings on my mobo, every time the cpu boosts to 5.6ghz, it always reaches the PL2 set at 265W and thermal throttles so it's unable to hold the frequency up, probably due to the excess voltage used. So now i'm using fixed voltage (1.3V on the core) and i reduced power limits while setting the boost clocks at 5.5ghz on all cores and it is now holding the frequency up while boosting and also using less voltage and less power without throttling. It might be also a problem with my AIO as it is pretty old and i plan to replace it soon, but the main problem was the voltage use. It just goes over 1.5V on adaptive setting which is kinda of insane in my books. Idk these cpu just eat as much voltage and power as they have at disposal without delivering huge performance improvements, you gotta find that sweet spot. But still i think they are ridiculous and hope the next gen will be better in this regard. I personally enjoy playing with my hardware but if i was to put myself in a novice perspective, i'd be pretty mad at my cpu for sure.

@@madddog692000 Strictly in games it's not a problem at stock but if you stress test it for stability or give it some harder workloads (other than gaming), trying to hold the boost clocks up it will always go to 100C and throttle because of the high voltage use. For gaming strictly i can even do a stable 6ghz (on the stronger cores) and 5.8 to 5.6 profile for the rest of P cores. If you are strictly gaming i don't think you'll run into any problems with a 360 AIO at stock. It should be perfectly fine. At least for now.

Nvidia only does Super refreshes when the consumers stubbornly refuses to buy. They never lower prices on principle matters. So the 4080 Super is to all intends and purposes a 4080 with a different name and a different price tag. But Nvidia didn't lower prices on the 4080. They launched "another product" at a more compelling price (and then discounted the 4080 to 4080 Super prices. But not officially).

13th - 14th gen issue sounds like a memory leak. I've experienced the issue in a couple of games, fixed by a patch. Not a hardware issue.

Seems that most UE4 games with big VRAM usage have this Problem . Hogwarts Thread on Steam is big from crashes. But all are reaolved with.turning off "Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling". So i think theres a general Problem with HAGS+UE4 .

Was it 2 weeks till modders created the first few fixes that not only solved most crashes, but reduced memory-consumption, improved performance, oh and made the game even look better? And the CPU is much more important than the GPU, imo (in the long run). I would get a beefier CPU and just get an RX 7800 XT (which is around $500). 16GB will be fine for 1440p. Better resale value, too. 12GB will age like milk in 2 years.

When I get about 40 fps in a game, I use frame generation for that 60+ fps experience. This is usually in slower paced games where input lag isn't that big a deal.

When I get 40 fps in a game by heart stops beating which result in critical oxygen levels in my brain which leads to me dying in Minecraft :( Low fps are a real problem. Without respawn we wouldn't even know how much of a problem that is

here's the thing, about intel CPU issue in Korea. most of the games which was developed by using unreal engine crashes in 13th&14th gen. sometimes the pc shuts down without any notification. even intel is aware of this problem. they gave an advice to turn off P-core which doesn't make this problem solve. if anyone want's to know if your own intel CPU is normal, give a try of this list games. 1. Hogwarts legacy 2. Remnant 2 3. tekken8 (Even Demo can be tested as well)

5090 MSRP will easily be $2000 - 2500. Even 3 grand would not surprise me - they could barely keep up with demand of 4090s. 5080 will prolly start at no lower then $1200. $1500 would as be possible. NVIDIA is focusing to raise the per unit price of those cards. Doubt FPS/dollar will increase by a lot this upcoming gen unless you can use some new hardware only locked driver limited software shortcut.
