A few people have asked me if I could do a video on how I produce the foliage on my layout so as I wanted to start the four gardens at the rear of the semi's then I thought this would be a good opportunity to show how I do it.

Alastair Wilson And that was exactly what I was hoping for Alastair, if this video can help those just starting out then it’s been a success - not the amount of views or likes, it’s more to do with the sharing of information that I’m after as that is how I have learnt over the years. Cheers for now mate. ........... Graham

It has been a while since I last left a comment for you Graeme. However, yet again, I am overcome by your own master class made all the more impressive by your modesty. A big thank you for showing me and others like me, how you can take a blank canvass and turn it into a masterpiece. You just get better and better, much like a fine wine as it matures. All the best Mike

Gartsherrie Junction Wow, thank you so much Mike for those extremely kind words my friend - they are greatly appreciated. You no need to thank me though, it should be me thanking you for that great comment although I don’t consider myself as a master though - far from it, there are folk out there far better than me that can do this sort of thing properly but at least a can make a reasonable representation which is all I’m after for my layout but thank you anyway! 👍🏻👍🏻. Hi Graham, That was very informative and very well done! The results are stunning. It is always good to see how different people approach a task and see how they get to the final results. You know what Graham that garden looks blooming good. There was a recent snotty remark relating to others using scatters as grass from another channel, I won't name and shame but I don't see any fault with using it in the right areas. In a garden it works better than some static grass based lawns.. And that's coming from someone who has a mega eye for producing realistic scenery. It's simple, effective and easy for many to follow. Top job. Tim.
@GrahamFoulston
@GrahamFoulston 4 жыл бұрын
The Scrap Line Thank you very much Tim. I don’t see why you have to use static grass for all lawns to be honest, if you scale the smallest of the static grasses then it would come up to your ankle which I don’t think is very life like. But even so, it depends on what the person wants whether it’s correct to them or not - not someone else.i have used static grass in only one of the gardens and even then I flattened it, that’s because I wanted that garden to look unkempt. Like so many things, there is no wrong or right answer in my opinion - just whatever you think suits that particular scene. Just my opinion of course. Cheers for now buddy. ...........Graham

Great stuff Graham. You two on your bikes at the end topped off another enjoyable video. The moment where you stood your drill in next door's garden was a 'wow' moment for me as it reminded me of the tiny scale of everything . I have an old Hornby HST on my desk as a model and as indicator of the scale, but it's still very easy to forget how tiny some details are :-) Cheers, Paul.

I’m very aware that as with most jobs then there are more than one way to tackle it and I just don’t like using the term “How to. . .” , I much prefer to use “How I do. . .”. There are always many videos out there from different modellers who would do this job in a different way and also using different materials and still end up with a great job so there is no right or wrong way - it’s just what method you prefer and what you feel more comfortable with and hopefully I have showed that with this video. Galgorm Hall Many thanks Paul and I’m really pleased that you enjoyed it. Stripes on the lawn can be achieved by using two slightly different shades of turf, they only need to be slightly different so a custom mix is best to get the right shade needed. Hope that helps. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham

Exehaven Harbour Well hopefully John this will give you the confidence to do something similar, I tried to make it as simple as possible while still getting a reasonable job at the end. By watching this video and other videos from other modellers then this should give you a good base to start from. Cheers for now mate. ........... Graham

Don’t just look at mine, look at other videos too and just select the way you think you would be most comfortable with, we all have our own methods of doing the same job. The thing is just try it, you will be surprised as to how easy it really is, the hardest part is having the confidence that you can do it and you can do it believe me. Hi Graham, everyone has their own ideas on how to apply scenery. I’ve watched lots of videos on the subject, and a lot of them have put me off looking very complicated and I have been putting it off, but the way you applied yours is so straightforward and the results look fantastic. So I will be trying yours. Love the way the layout is developing. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

Tony Hewitt Well, your comment has really pleased me Tony because that was the whole point of this video, it’s not meant to be clever in any way, just showing folk that with a few simple techniques and some decent foliage then to be honest, anyone can achieve a reasonable result on their own layout. I’m glad that you found it of use to you and you stay safe too. Cheers for now mate. ............ Graham

You did a nice job with your (How I do it) tutorial and I am sure that others will adapt this method when it comes to adding scenery, including myself. Laying down the foundation aon a blank canvas (sheet of paper) is a great idea, for creating small areas like a garden or a small park area. Well done mate it was a pleasure to watch.
