It's your choice. There are also other ways to spend the money. Like invest them somewhere or just do a fixed deposit. Jay Shetty's diplomas cost $7500. You can get an online degree from a proper reputed university like Georgia Tech for that money.

What I got from this video: 1) Jay was not has his ashram all the time and was in London, 2) Monks should remain poor and quiet, 3) Once you are a monk you should not do anything else and be a monk for life, 4) He is 'plagiarizing' because he has repeated things he has learned from others. What I got from your comment: 1) A monk can travel around the world from Day 1 and without doing any 'tapasya' claim that he is a monk 2) Monks should be a millionaire and materialistic in every aspect of life 3) once you are a monk you can enjoy life to the fullest. You can drink, earn money by lying, from different sources but still should be labeled a monk 4) Plagiarism is ok. No need of citations or giving references. When I first saw the comment I got a live example of how in today's world influencers can lie all they want and still get a huge fan following.

1. Jay Shetty was my teacher in the ashram in London for 2 years. I can attest to that. 2. Spiritual awakening is a process. So depending on what he was refering to, the date may be different. 3. The plagiarism thing was in the start and he corrected that error. How often do we say things that we didn't invent ourselves, without always giving a reference upfront? 4. There are reasons why he is so successful, one of which is because people resonate with what he says.

@@hieroprotoganist34401. Proof: Just go there yourself, it's a big institution. Hundreds of people there know him from that time. 2. Why should he not go to India? His ancestors are indian. Everyone in the ashram there went to India at least once, because that is where the roots of that spiritual tradition are. I myself have been more than 10 times. Also, his Guru, Radhanath Swami (whom I happened to see today in person) has several projects in Mumbai, which is one place where he spent some time for sure.

He was a spiritual seeker who went to India, and then decided to go back to a worldly lifestyle. He has damn talent to market himself and build a brand that's why he reached that far. His story is not unique per se. I am aware of many Westerners who were monks and later dis-robed and who have helped to spread the message of peace and compassion far and wide (see Bob Thurman, Will Tuttle). I have tremendous respect for this. I certainly don’t have the courage or discipline to leave the comforts of the world for an ashram or monastery, so kudos to those who do. I pray for peace for him now as he endures these criticisms.
