This is part 4 of my entry into the Great Guitar Build Off 2021 Scratch Build competition.
In this episode I do some more routing of the body, make the truss rod cover and get some oil on the covers.

You do very good work John but those taped bridge studs are unacceptable really. The kind of constant pressure on the studs will loosen them, the tape will compress and they will bend the wood and pull up. You could coat the holes with wood glue and build up several layers. I still don't consider that great fix but it's much better than tape.

Thanks Dane. Yes I agree! I realised during editing that they are not going to work. I am considering plugging the holes and redrilling.

Thanks! Today I filled the holes back I. With a large dowel, some sawdust and wood glue. Leave it overnight and tomorrow I’ll redrill the holes, smaller

@@JohnClothier I had a similar issue recently. 10mm drill bit must've either been oversized or moved slightly and oversized the hole. I used a plane shaving and wood glue wrapped around the stud which I had waxed. It's in there SOLID now, but the wax (hopefully) means the stud will come out in the distant future if someone wants to change them (unlikely).

Oh John. John John John. You're so making me want a CNC... the effort it was to make some pickup rings without even a thicknesser was a trial recently :) Those ones you've made are a nice contrast.

I've got the same ooznest machine as John and it's superb. you can use it as a thicknesser so it's really a versatile machine.

I used that Gotoh bridge for the first guitar I built. Love it! I would happily use it again if I could buy it. Unfortunately, the store in Japan from which I bought it no longer ships overseas.

looks like you were struggling with the cavity drilling. I've been having really good luck using a long 3mm bit to pilot the hole a bit, then an auger bit that has the little conical screw thread type tip... Seems to make it much easier, and the bit I have has a narrower shank than the 10mm cutter, and one of those hex ends you can use an extension on. Just some musings...

I think that design needs a carve on top. With the type of bridge, neck break anlge and the type of guitar it is similar to; I think the carve will look 'right'. Just a thought.

Excellent work John, I wondered if you used the Workbee to make the guitar templates?

To be honest after this build I will be taking a break from KZfaq. We are moving house so I won’t have a workshop for a while and everything is going in storage. It will be once I’m set back up and straight that I get back to videos
