Watch as Antony & Paul revive a worn-out pair of old Grenson Chelsea boots by meticulously unpicking 3 lots of old stitching, replacing the leather sole and heel, and applying three coats of renomat to clean and some burnish polish to try to get some life back in the uppers.

Lovely job, I suppose to charge for a new welt would have made saving them not viable.... I love the finished job... I do like a nice worn in skin.

100% agree....new shoes can look a bit tarty....absolutely no patina! Older shoes look real.

@@shoehealer8853 Those boots, black moleskin chinos, light blue shirt, wool tweed or textured tie or a cravat if you want to show how posh you are!.... possibly a well loved tweed jacket... even a brown cord jacket... go anywhere.

Hi Anthony, am I correct that wingtip brogue designs are less prone to leather cracking compared to other simpler styles? (especially in the side vamp area) Thanks

The argument would be that wingtip shoes with double thickness of leather uppers don't flex as well as single leather uppers! However the main reason for cracking is too much polish and not enough cream. 👍

@@shoehealer8853 " the main reason for cracking is too much polish and not enough cream" Amen to that, most of us punters should be given a pot of cream, and rationed on the wax. Other than kicking hard objects, caked wax is the surefire and the main reason high quality uppers end up wrecked.

Seeing what the uppers looked like before the work was done, I'd have thought that repairing them was not cost effective. I'd also have been a bit embarrassed to hand them in like that without cleaning the uppers. It's not rocket science to use some saddle soap and conditioner and I assume would have been a bit cheaper if he'd cleaned them himself.

What I found odd was that someone went to the trouble of having new soles put on, at least twice ... since the previous "cobbler" didn't remove the welt stitching so left the evidence !! and a pile of trouble for these fellows trying to do a professional job! So the owner obviously loves these boots... maybe they are just very old and regularly used?
