I am from Northampton home of the "top class" shoe industry. I have a pair of Churches brogues that I have owned for 35 years they have been resoled and healed maybe 6 times,and they are as good as new. I also have a number of Churches and other Barkers shoes shoes that I also like. These two brands are my favourites and I believe good value as they give longevity. I have one pair of cherished Trickers shoes kept for best. One day I will buy a pair of John Lobb around £1500 as a treat.

Not so many quality shops like this left in South Yorkshire Use it or loose it Great product Great service Brilliant repairs Only problem is Parking 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗 btw I’m gutted to find out my Loakes are made in India I thought I paid a bargain price Around £150-£160 per pair However they do look nice 👍 🤷‍♂️

Thanks for explaining to those who complain about pricing, tha there is yet a difference in terms of quality when you pay more. I have around about 20 pairs of tricker’s some of them are 18 - 20 years old.. nearly every year a grab a new pair to add in my collection 😂.. using and rotating them, and let all sleeping with the shoes tree, i still didn’t replace soles Quality at its best.

Edward Green are a heap of money! I look at the Imperial range in Cheaney and hand grade in Crockett & Jones and struggle to really discern the difference and why it might be worth me parting with that much money! Some of it must also come down to how a particular manufacturers last fits on your feet.

Rob, we love NPS shoes, they make so many different types of shoes for lots of different brands. Sometimes you won't known your wearing NPS. Love them.

Are the cheaneys made with good material? I heard some rumors about some of their recent production breaking apart after just a couple months or a year of wear. I heard they are still made in england but are they cutting cost in the lining and the welt like the shoes at 3:00?

Kato, i can only tell you what i see with my own customers, and be sure I will be 100% honest. Of course, we have occasionally experienced problems, but it's so rare...Id love to see pictures of these shoes that have split. Thanks for your interest 👍

Owning many Trickers, Cheaney, Loake, Barkers and Crockett and Jones (benchgrade/mainline only) I think C&J are a step above the rest. That's based on four pairs of Trickers, four pairs of C&J, and significantly more pairs of the other brands. Given that Trickers are frequently available for around £350 in the sales from multiple retailers, and C&J carefully control their prices, Trickers are the better value at that price but my preference (and largest number in my collection) are Cheaney which in their main line use slightly lower quality materials than Trickers (only slightly) but whose sale prices are cheaper than Trickers sale prices and which have nicer lasts IMHO. Having a large collection and never actually needing footwear I only really purchase in the sales.

Great video. I understand Loake'sDesign range is made in India, I didn't know that Loake's "Made in England" lines, such as Classic1880, Shoemakers are half made in India?

I have two pairs of design Indian loakes,very comfortable but you can tell the quality is not as good and the creases are really bad on them compared to the barkers I have.

Yes, even the 1880 uppers are made in india and have a compressed cardboard/ fibreboard heel stack! amp.theguardian.com/world/2002/jun/26/globalisation.features11

@@shoehealer8853 how about barker creative collection? (particularly the heavy country brogues hand painted Bailey) and is it purely made in England? Do they use such materials as loake 1880?

@@byN91 Hi Yes, the only styles of Barker that are made in India are the International collection, but Barker reflect this in their pricing.

Yes, although they do have a made in India range, that is reflected in the price on those and they are transparent about which ones are on their website. Have a look at our reviews playlist, there are two lovely ones which have been released recently, the Pickering and Kirkby,both made in England.

You do see these brands in the charity shops quite regularly. The wife will send the old boys shoe collection there when he turns his toes up.

Would be interested to hear your opinion on Samuel Windsor Brogues made in India with a Goodyear welted sole. Very cheap at 49 pounds. They certainly look well made with leather upper/inner/sole. The welt looks well-done to. How can they sell them so cheaply? Are brand names partly a rip off as you pay for the name. Samuel Windsor leather may not be the finest but they look decent quality

Considered a budget cheap brand but in reality I struggle to find fault in their indian made Goodyear welted all leather shoes have bought for years . Only criticism is breaking the leather in. It can be stiff around the ankles. I suspect not the best quality hide ( although their marketing says it is) but it looks/feels/smells a good hide. How can they afford to sell for 49 pounds? Plus I got 5 pounds off in black Friday discount

My first pair of Goodyear welted were Samuel Windsor. I've now 3 pairs of Barker, a pair of loake 1880, a pair of Cheaney and a few pairs of John White boots. The SW I handed to a charity bin. They aren't bad for the price but but but ....I believe they're out of business now

I know Loake have different lines of quality. Even the 1880 line, or their top Export grade use these price shortcuts? They're advertising those shoes are completely made in England.

I think they say that about the 1880 range too, but we know that all these have their uppers made in india. Still at the right price, do people care? It's not really fair on the companies that really are "Purely made in England," as cheaney says.

@@shoehealer8853 I think the discontinued Export range was all UK made but that used to retail for £370 list price a couple of years ago and judging by the sale clearances they had on them, they never sold that well.

I buy Berwick and Meermin. They are not English, but the price and quality are the best for me.

I've had nothing but good experiences with Berwick who manage to make very well made footwear at bargain prices. They seem to have excellent QC and their materials are decent (without being spectacular). My Meermin experience has been a little more mixed but they are a great way to try out more interesting leathers and styles at a cheap price point.

I was an adivd Loake customer for years but now I ve noticed the quality has dropped mainly the welt poor construction cheap materials just thrown a pair of 771b in the bin for this exact reason . I care for every pair I buy ie trees , Saphir cream/ polishes but now no more I ve just bought my second pairs of Trickers and yes more expensive but they will give me more miles sorry Loake you have let your long life customer's down nonmore Loake .

I hate when they say made in England and they are not or only partially, I am willing to pay the top price but only if I get the top quality . I don’t want anything that is not English unless I chose it and this deception by the companies will only be rewarded with losing customers.
