I seem to remember Shawn being there around mid 2000 when undertaker returned as the American badass at judgement day, I'm sure he was referee or was ringside for the Rock and triple h iron Man match that ppv

@@AllUntold If I remember correctly, Michaels was basically part-time after WM14, with sporadic appearances and/or angles, such as being "commissioner" and special guest referee, etc. But after 4 years of that, he finally came back full-time in '02.

@@TheTruth-pl3mk yes that's true, although I don't think he made any appearance after Mick Foley was made commissioner. i don't remember seeing him on WWE TV from then until his return on raw in 2002,

Shawn's back was healed by 2000. He had a match at his wrestling school. But he was still a pill head. He might've returned as early as WM17 had he been sober. But problems and arguments led him leave and not speak to them for about a year.

Honestly after watching the HBK Biography on A&E I walked away thinking there was never a back injury and the that he was let go because of his drug problem and attitude.

There definitely was a back injury. As someone who has chronic lower back issues and has had surgery, I know for sure just by watching Wrestlemania 14. He was in agonizing pain, and you can't fake what he was experiencing.

He ping ponged back and forth during that time. Somewhere during that time he was officially let go, but it was very short lived. Somewhere during his absence, he had back surgery in which if you look closely, you can see the surgical scar.

I’ve heard that HHH ratted Shawn out to the office for his drug abuse around the time he left. I wonder if there’s any truth to that.

Bret has always been my favorite. GOAT in my opinion but I have no problem with people who think Shawn is better. The reason they are tied together is because of their shoot rivalry in 1997 and the screwjob. Alot of hart fans, like myself, believe Bret would've has a much better last few years if shawn wasnt such a bitch back then and made vince have to make a choice between the two.

he just stopped being used. He stayed on the payroll the entire time so he couldn't go to WCW. As soon as the Monday Night War was over somehow his back was healed and he went back to full time wrestling for another 8 years.

And I'm a Bret fan. But he does embellish things to make himself look good. Summerslam 92 he was over as the Bulldog? Bull. I was there and it was 90% to 10% at best. He was over in the UK and Europe, but to Smith's extent in the UK when wrestling him? That would be like saying the Bulldog was as over as Bret in Canada. Bulldog moved to Canada as 1st stop when hopping the Atlantic, but "hometown" wrestler, even when heel will out over anyone.

Just about every other person in the business would have refused to job to Shawn in those circumstances. And even if your point did stand, my point is that Bret was a better team player than Shawn. Shawn fucked the company and his colleagues on multiple occasions.

Shawn was good at high flying and elbows off the rope but Bret was better and his 97 heel turn every promo was great. And I would put up a Bret Hart 1997 against any year HBK ever had in WWE.

Bret didn't have the persona unlike Michaels, Rock,Macho , Flair and Hogan. He was the best technical wrestler but he sold tickets based on the storyline not his persona.
