Tyson - Like you, I live in Utah and didn't remember any of these either. I linked to the WIKI site that lists these shootings. One was a negligent discharge by a teacher in a bathroom, no injuries. One was an intentional discharge in a classroom by a student, no injuries. One was a fight on school grounds. One injured. They don't say in the WIKI at what time this occurred. So it might have been after-hours, but on school grounds. IMO, the only one that could be considered a "school shooting" would be the one with an injury...if it was during school hours.

You can't even buy the same rifle... The rifle that the military issues will be capable of either full auto fire or 3 round burst.. The rifles in stores are mere semi-automatics that are made to look like the military versions in appearance only.. For the most part, you can't get the same ammunition either, let alone the rifle.

Technically you can, or at least, the version issued back in 1986, but you may have turned 21 by the time NFA Branch approves your Form 4. (Not to mention, not many 18-year-olds have $20k to drop on a rifle.)

Another thing people forget when a person turns 18 years old...they can sign a contract and it's legally binding. The problem with our country, is we have different standards and ages that constitutes what is the legal age limit. What the courts need to do is come up with one age that makes a person "an Adult." And then ALL standards as an adult must adhere to that age.

Basically the AR15 and its legal civilian variants are the watered down versions of the military and police version of the M16/M4/Norinco CQ series. The firearms do not even account for one percent of the national crime rate or even international. The primary choices are hand guns, blades, and blunt objects. The primary rifles used in crime or terrorism is the fully automatic AK47 series and fully automatic M16 series. The other contenders include an AR18 variants in fully automatic or FN FAL or G3 Battle Rifle series. If anyone needs gun control it's the governments that are allowing their police and military equipment to fall into the hands of those that prey upon society not legal owners or their AR15 semi automatics.

Rich8 - I think the NRA and gun owners like IRAQ8888 care. IRAQ8888 even talked about gun rights in the UK and Australia. Even their rights affect us because there seems to be a cultural wave, at least among politicians, that is anti-gun. The problem is that the NRA ends up having to fight in courts when a state's citizens elect the wrong politicians. And that takes more time and resources. I know in CA we also have organizations like the local chapter of Gun Owners of America - CA... who seem to be working along side the NRA. But I also know most people in CA are anti-gun or at least they aren't willing to vote in someone who is actually pro-2A... then again, it could be that there is no politician left in CA who isn't on the Left. I know there are many gun owners who prefer to run to pro-2A states than fight. I don't blame them... it's an ugly fight. You are right though, we are only one election away from the 2A going down. But along with that is the erosion of the 1A. In Canada and UK, it is illegal to speak your mind. There are many here in the US who would shut us up if they could also as we see in the actions of Google, KZfaq, Facebook, etc. We need to all evangelize or proselytize for the 2A... that needs to be the counter force to all this marching and censoring we see on MSM. I don't necessarily share it or his support of the NRA... but I do think his basic logic is sound: just because you disagree with Hickok45 about one thing, doesn't mean you have to suddenly hate him, disavow him, stop watching him, call him a traitor, disbar him from the gun community, strip all the likes away that you enjoyed over the years... etc. Let's face it, a lot of people (...people with guns, apparently), are a lot more reactive and quick to judge and hot to get fired up about what we care about. That can be a good thing... sometimes. But sometimes, it's okay to calm down, and be reasonable, and realize that no man is the distilled product of one single opinion of his that you might disagree with. There are many ways to go about this... and we are all on the same side. I hope so, anyway. I think National Reciprocity would've ended gun control for a generation, and headed this crap off at the pass... but a lot of free-staters disagreed and spread the panic, fear, and ignorance about "Federal Registration!" regardless of it being untrue, thus weakening support for some critical gun legislation that we needed, and now FixNICS managed to pass the Senate without Nat-Rep. i missed that. i don't agree with the wording of the regulation. mind you, the comment period will start monday before what trump just did. so, here's something to consider. we need as a community to be very specific about words other than just say what part of infringe don't you understand etc. any comments to bump stocks that were taken through january weren't specific. if 36,000 comments instead of saying don't infringe on the 2d amendment but said don't use the wording in the proposed regulation that says anything that increases the rate of fire to a bump stock is a specific device attached to a lower receiver that reciprocates back and forth and/or originally, bump stocks were designed for individuals with disabilities, the ADA requires reasonable accommodations. anyone with a disability would be denied a reasonable accommodation to participate in an otherwise lawful activity and should be denied on that basis as well. we need to work things to our advantage.
