So excited to see his new stuff and cannot wait to see him in person again. I saw him for his own show and opening for Trevor Noah. I heard all his jokes before his opening for Trevor and still thought he was waaaaay funnier than him.

It wasn’t borderline - it was straight up torture! Josh was likely downplaying it for the jokes, but Gypsy Rose’s mom was drugging her, subjecting her to years of painful and unnecessary medical procedures, wouldn’t let her leave the house, forced her to stay in a wheelchair at all times, etc. At one point, her mom had most of her teeth removed. It’s perfectly understandable why she snapped one day and had her mom killed.

Like Carol Burnett, she did more than overcome. She did a Phoenix Rising from the Ashes.

I'm not defending her by any means, murder is wrong, but she was tortured through drugs, painful medical procedures and forced to be 'ill'. Her mother would chain her to the bed after attempted escape so while the leap to murder seems out there for most of us 'Why didn't she just run away' - she tried - you also have to keep in mind this woman had the media wrapped around her finger. If she escaped, the mother would yell about kidnap, likely sob on TV and pressure the police to find her sick daughter. She convinced the nation that Gypsy couldn't think for herself, she had her babied so much people would likely think she doesn't know any better and drag her back to her abuser. It would have felt very inescapable. People snap just being overwhelmed by a bottled emotion, this was direct torture. Mental, emotional and physical. Was it wrong? Absolutely. Murder isn't excusable and Gypsy actually agrees with that. However you can see why she thought it was her only way to escape. And the psyche will absolutely convince you of anything to help you survive.

I don't remember if he was formally diagnosed, but supposedly another version of him, named Victor, carried out the murder. Victor was very violent and even wanted to rape the mother. He also had a sexual persona and a good guy persona. And in their relationship, Gypsy did a lot of things to please each one of these characters even though she didn't quite understand it as MPD. But this was someone capable of caring for her and loving her, and that, for anyone, is a hard drug to kick.

The owner will tear her business apart piece by piece, all on their own. I can at least say only one business has survived after I've left. That's only because I backed out slowly and prepared everyone. All others have closed shortly after. That's probably the only comfort I'll receive.
