Halston perfume - available as a Christmas gift at Carson Pirie Scott & Co. (in 1981, that is)
This commercial features the actual designer Halston - the man himself. As well as model Pat Cleveland, and ?? (anyone know any of the other names?)
(ending is cut off slightly due to next commercial starting too quickly)
This aired on local Chicago TV on Sunday, December 20th 1981.

I had no idea Anjelica Huston was a model for Halston. I've loved her for a long time and was completely unaware. And yes, Halston is, was and will always be a genius.

His marketing is hilariously dated. The only thing we can learn from him is his eye for high society. Halston never pretended; he kept living until he got noticed.

@@jordanabeaulieu2530 Halston was a great designer, many loved him, many hated him, typical life. His downfall was Victor, whom treated him poorly. Halston had a sad life. Why, you ask? Because he was incredibly talented, but the drug use, his battle with AIDS. Like most icons he too lived a sad life at the end. His once fabulous designs being worn by socialites, lining the racks of Bergdorf Goodman, Halston didn’t value his talent, his artistic skills, the more money he made, the more drugs he did. He didn’t realize his beautiful worth till it was no longer. At the end, he had sold off his very own name. He would have given anything to undo his carelessness and get have his name back. He died with regrets, many of them. Regardless, he was loved by many, surrounded by many who claimed to love him as a friend, but many only used him to their advantage. He was a beautiful soul, many downfalls that destroyed his greatness. On one hand he could count his true friends. He just wanted to be loved and be successful. In the end he realized his mistakes. He’s still an icon of an era, that will never be forgotten.

He had a sad life ,he ate well in fancy restaurants, food catered from fancy restaurant's. He lived in beautiful houses . He had a sad life ,he had a ton of sex with probably good looking guys, and did drugs like a rock star .He had a sad life, his name is immortalized in fashion. He probably took wonderful vacations and owned expensive cars and wore beautiful clothes . It is not how long you live, its how well you live and how much fun you had, even if its short. Many people that are in there eighty's can say "I am alive in my eighty's" ,but can they say" I lived life the way I wanted to and had fun" ?

The 80s was the peak of Glamour. You saw a few things in the 90s comparable, but it really ended in the 80s.

@@11dsw Halston was still going strong in the 80’s The music Prince, Bowie, Michael Jackson, Madonna Cher. The cars, and the great fashion. Great TV viewing back then. Then came AIDS and the party was over. Still have a bottle of Z-14 Halston put America on the fashion map. God Bless him.

@@a.a.p3254 ....HIV/AIDS came in 81..so, the party was over very quickly. Fashion in the 8os may have been the worst in the entire century. The whole shape was an upside down triangle. Big hair, gaudy make up, massive shoulder pads, high waisted pleated tapered pants 😦...How opposite of Halstons beautiful, flowing, feminine luxurious 1970s fashions… I guess the music as a matter of personal taste… The 7os had huge orchestras incorporated into dance music…The 80s were slothed in synth. I was a teenager in the 80s. No matter what party, disco, nightclub we went to it always felt like the “after party“… the 1980s was just a 7os hangover.....The party ended. Now part of iconic nightlife history...Halston is the ultimate in 197os couture..and a fascinating popular culture icon..luckily his unhappy flirt with 8os mall culture has been forgotten. Keep a hold to that Z-14...wow !!!

I doubt he would've allowed all of that heavy equipment into his space -- lights, cables, full crew of electricians, grips, props... Looks like they built a set, probably at the very large, very tall Kaufman Astoria Stage out in Astoria.

@@greggmitchell2392 I have no inside knowledge of this shoot, just guessing. But professional art directors, set designers and prop masters can re-create with that level of precision... right down to the carpet or backdrop. Maybe someone who was there will tell us.

Now that i've seen the documentary i think you might be right about it being filmed in his place, not on a stage. But I do hope the prop people replaced the fragrance with water for the shoot!! We're seeing one or two sprays, but there had to be dozens of rehearsals for lighting, camera angle, hand placement and spray visibility, and then takes and then retakes... no matter how nice the scent, eventually it would've smelled awful.

@@Danxethenightaway She's the model Halston hands the bottle to at the beginning. Pat Cleveland was a print and runway model for virtually every major American and Parisian fashion designer throughout the 70s; she still models occasionally.
