FAQ:
Why ‘the religious hippie?’
It was a nickname my friends gave me when I was in highschool because I dressed like a hippie and was a ‘wild child’, when I came back into my faith they thought ‘the religious hippie’ was now a more appropriate nickname and it stuck!
Who is your favorite saint? Saint Francis of Assisi
Where do you live? Chicago

I will pray for you, but my prayers will be nothing compared to those of the Carthusians. Find a monastery in your country, then email them. I did in my country UK and asked for a mass for my son and a friend. The prayers were answered. Then, without a request from me, they prayed for my return to the church. I returned, albeit in a spasmodic way. I urge everybody to seek out a Carthusian Monastery and ask for help. Sorry too long post

I will definitely be praying for you! I had amenorrhea as well for about 2 years. I recently recovered from it thanks be to God. But it is possible to recover! I urge you to look into support groups for women with amenorrhea. This helped me so much! And researching into why this may be happening as well. There’s many things that can cause amenorrhea but once you find out what is causing it you may be able to treat it and know how to heal ❤️

I am 43. I chased my career for 15 years plus 2 college degrees. I dated the wrong men and was left heartbroken several times. I drank and glorified being a swinging single. I could have saved a lot trouble and depression if I had worked on my relationship with God. All the young women in here please learn from my mistakes. If your faith is strong you will be fine with whatever is thrown at you.

@Michlady5 nothing is the problem. Like I said I agree with him, but the way he presented the speech in front of college kids, it should have been obvious that they would all have tantrums. That's all I'm saying. I know tons of people who went to my local catholic college and many of them are liberal and only went there because it was the cheapest option that wasn't community college. He said all the right things but I feel like all these news outlets acting like it's some big anomaly that he's getting backlash are kind of outrageous because dude, it's obvious, he spoke a truth about women in front of Gen Z liberal women, and while being recorded. Of course they're going to attack a Christian for going against the narrative

First time listener, it's interesting to hear God's grace flow through this wise young woman. She will live a better life (not easier) for having God as the center of her coming marriage. I wish I knew what she knows already when I was her age! I am a 72 yo divorced Catholic. Not bitter, just getting started on my Purgatory early. What gets me is that a lot of “Christian’s “ (I’m Catholic) seem to think the highest calling of anyone is marriage when that is not true because people like Joan of Arc exist people like Mary of Magdalene exist and I feel like especially in a university setting doing God’s will should be a more important message to say then one of marriage plus as a almost 30 year old that wants a family and kids and even that stay at home lifestyle tie hear this talking about marriage without any equal importance of addressing that God sometimes choses you for a life of chastity whether being a nun/priest or not can be very hurtful alienating and shameful for people as well as this economy be rude to wives and mothers that can’t afford the privilege of staying at home I feel like what he said and how he said it lacked for thought and was tone deaf

I just commented something similar to what you said. In my humble opinion, ALOT of traditional Catholics and (especially the influencers/famous Catholic figures) tend to only talk about marriage & family (which is good) but the problem is that in Catholicism, marriage is not the only vocation. There are consecrated virgins, nuns, monks, hermits, priests AND lay celibate single men & women whose vocation IS their career. Look at Saint Giuseppe moscatti, his vocation was single celibate Doctor. I wish more famous Catholic influencers would talk about these other noble and high value-able vocations to newer Catholic/young women and men.

Heck we can go back to the apostles and I think a lot of the online people don’t know how to talk or even convey they’re message which makes me feel like that’s not Christian because Jesus told us to be fishermen of men and if all they do is just cause conflict instead of converting hearts and genuinely making people want to follow God’s will all they do is make them feel insulted and double down ya know what I mean?

Thank you for pointing out the difference between Butker and Travis Kelce. Those who criticized Butker mention Taylor Swift as a prime example of a woman who has prioritised her career and doesn't need men or a family. As if fulfilment is measured in fame and fortune. BTW, Harrison Butker is a Kicker for the KC Chiefs. He is the direct reason for many team wins specially the last Superbowl

I would love though for more popular/famous Catholics to ALSO talk about single vocations/priesthood/religious consecrated life. Marriage is beautiful but I feel like many trads only focus & speak only on marriage than the other vocations. For example, I didn’t know what consecrated virginity was till like last year & that is sad when it was one of the most highly regarded ancient vocation as saint Cyprian said to first women virgins “you have already become what we will be in heaven.” Which I thought wow, and sadly many traditional Catholics don’t regard single vocations as honorable, especially if it is a women who has chosen to remain celibate & single for the rest of her life. Why don’t more famous Catholics encourage or talk about these vocations too as much they do with marriage. I mean we already have a huge crisis in the church with many monasteries closing in different countries bc there are not a lot of women entering the convent/nuns. Not to mentioned priesthood, in my diocese only two priests are being ordained:/I have nothing against marriage for the record, but what I am saying is that there are other vocations that are needed, valuable, & noble too that younger ppl need to also realize that they have different options in this life too that can be under Gods will.

What the NFL seems to forget is that while pandering to the dissenting voices on Butkers superb commencement speech, 95% of those individuals do not watch the sport. In castigating and estranging themselves from Butker; for fear of social castigation by those vocal few, shouldn't the NFL be more concerned of the fall out by criticizing Butker on an opinion shared by 98% of those who do watch the sport? Shouldn’t memory serve them well and recall what happened to Gillette razor and Bud lite Beer?

@@Blossom13745 they said that what he said didn't align with what the school believes. I felt that was false (I live in Kansas, btw, and know this happens to be a very conservative/traditional school) and was an uncharitable way of interpreting what he said. I get that they would want to make some clarifying remarks (like that a woman can, and ought to be, both a mother & wife through her role even as a religious or a celibate lay person. And this role/dedication to people might include a career, but only as a means to an end and not an end in itself. Kind of like what Amber Rose said in her video). They said he called being a homemaker the highest calling of a woman, when he actually said it is ONE of the highest callings. It seems like their response was not well thought out and was a knee jerk reaction that caused more issues with the Church's/Colleges image than it solved. Now, I have seen multiple people interpret what they said as an affirmation that the Church does not uphold traditional family values, is okay with people practicing homosexuality, IVF, and other illicit acts. They think the sister's (seemingly) blanket condemnation of what he said is evidence of that. Now, that is undoubtedly people reading too much into their words, but still they should have been more clear and precise. Basically, I think they should have stood by him but made clarifying remarks on the points he wasn't super clear on/was speaking from opinion.

Totally agree with you he was speaking to women that he knew two women who follow their faith and I'm sure he acknowledged that sometimes it's not possible he was showing how God has blessed his family and how God can bless other families most of my family members or friends had a problem with this even some people in the medical field or other jobs in some cases because they were single moms and chose to keep their babies instead of a boarding them those moms do work to keep the baby that they chose and yes the father is absent but I don't think he was talking specifically about that except to choose better I believe he knows that in some cases women might work for a short period of time and then go back to fulfilling their duties when is the little easier on the family but he was speaking the truth about the time in which God gives women to have children be a mother and be a wife time for this is limited it is not the same like men. Like what he said and wished I could have had more of that as a child although I believe that when my mother could she stayed at home as much as she could found top-notch babysitters as well ones that were more like The heirs they would cook our dinners and put us to bed and charge my mother very fairly when she couldn't use that babysitter anymore she had to work a little less because unfortunately there was alcoholism in my house and my mom had to deal with that issue that is how we lost our babysitter my mom really did want to be a stay-at-home mom as much as she could when she was trying to pay for medical bills surgeries equipment and medical stuff for me and specialized clothing my mom would have to work I was proud of that because she did it to keep the family together and to keep me specifically healthy and safe and pay for mine and her medical needs when my dad was able to work and got himself together then I'm sure that changed a bit

If a woman feels fulfilled going out and working cool , if she feels fulfilled staying home with her children cool my problem is that it is coming from a millionaire whose wife can afford to stay home while we live during a time when families can’t live on a single income
@PackerBronco
@PackerBronco 3 ай бұрын
I'm not a millionaire but my wife and I raised 6 children with her as the homemaker and me bringing in a salary. My brother-in-law has raised 7 kids the same way. So did another brother-in-law with 4 kids. So has one of my sons with 5 kids (so far.) None of them millionaires. Beyond that, among my friends I could probable name at least 10 to 20 families that follow this model. Now there are some variations. In some cases the mother brings in some extra income from at-home jobs and other things, but the mother's primary vocation is taking care of the kids and the home. I'll also add that all these women are very happy, healthy, and live their lives without regret. So, I think you take the easy way out by saying this is advice for "millionaires only". It's a challenge, no question about that and it might not be for everyone. But it should not be dismissed out of hand. One last point. If what he said was true, then it should not make a difference how much money he makes or what he does for a living. Why would you argue that someone should not express his or her opinion because of their income or profession?

That's his opinion, going beyond what the Church has taught, even historically. It might be ideal, in a certain sense, to leave the size of your family to God, but the fact is that not everyone is an NFL millionaire. Think of it this way: if you drive up to the Canadian border, you are getting dangerously close to a foreign country with different laws. But as long as you don't cross it, you are still protected by US laws. So, NFP may not be ideal, but it doesn't directly interfere with reproduction the way artificial birth control does.
