Wow, I am trying to follow your planting schedule (when I can) but my broccoli has only just started making heads. I don’t have the same room as you, but you provide a fantastic guide. It’s amazing what can be achieved.

Apologies my videos are about a week delay so I may be throwing you off on the plantings. There is a lag between filming and posting. The heads that I did harvest were the ones in full sun so they form up faster than those in part shade. I’m still harvesting the heads this week so this still takes a little time

Fantastic video. I have only just planted my broccoli seedlings out into the garden. My garden has been packed with my summer veggies and I am slowly pulling them out to replace them with the winter crops. 😊

Yeah I have learnt over time in Sydney that I won’t get a great crop on summer veggies if I plant after mid January. Got lucky with my corn this year but even the cucumbers I planted in January didn’t produce as well as the spring planting. I have learnt to start my winter patch early to take advantage of the warm weather

Hi Anthony, great broccoli harvest. That Idea with the sheet is brilliant. Shame about the weather. I'm currently in Hobart so I don't know how my garden faired.

Thanks mate. The rain messed up my patch a bit but most of the garden has recovered. Hope your patch survived mate

Yes we did get alot of rain in 48hrs or less... Instead of getting water from nextdoor why don't you put lump of wood under the fence line and dig it out as it looks like its an ongoing problem for you... I'm shore the neighbours won't mind the water back in there yard...for those big trees that take up all goodness out of the ground... I would also eat the brocoilli leaves like spinach or finally chopped with herbs and spices & black olives.etc... Can't wait to see next vlog...didn't know about sheet...😂❤😂❤😂❤

Yeah I need to make a solution for the runoff. Generally it’s not a problem only when we have those massive rain events which usually occur around at this time every year. Thanks for watching 👍

I’m actually looking at planting my garlic in the next 2 weeks. Never planted in pots but I would recommend getting the soil in your pot amended with cow manure and check the PH before planting. Usually store bought soil in my experience is very alkaline. The good thing about planting in pots is you can move them out of the rain in October as the bulbs form and you run the risk of the bulbs rotting in the ground due to all the wet weather

Well done Anthony! How do you keep the grubs off your broccoli? I fear growing it for the grubs.

Great vlog. I am trying to work out sucession planting. From what i have observed of your broccoli you have done 5 plantings since january. Perhaps three weeks appart? Are they all aurora warm season variety?

I work on the premise as soon as I plant out broccoli seedlings I start new ones. It takes about 4-5 weeks from the moment I start my seedlings till I plant them out. I have a fair bit of space so I can constantly plant out a new batch of seedlings. Generally 30 at a time. But you can do this on a smaller scale also

Aurora is a warm season variety so I find it does well in autumn in Sydney. I’m playing around with different varieties to see which produces the best in my context

@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 That's a lot of broccoli! 30 plants per planting. Are you freezing and storing it for later use?

Nah they tend to get harvested over a 2 week period and we aim to eat 2-3 heads a day at dinner so we go through them pretty quickly. If there is an absolute glut they go to extended family. Try to eat them fresh
